  • I like it how precisely and rapidly can she play but i really miss the feeling. good job anyway, i think i will learn it again, its just fantastic as you feel yourself when you play it..

  • " Did you see the movie where there are tons of pianos playing in one big giant klavier symphony? That's the eternal vision. "

  • Without a doubt, this is one of the most fun songs I've ever played! You do a WONDERFUL job!

  • Wonderful performance! Gets right to the heart of the music, and very crisp clean finger work where it counts. Also very well recorded piano sound.

  • This is extremely well-controlled and exciting musicianship. Very nicely done! I wish I could've played it that well.

  • ok she plays very good, but come on, fish nets and you really want us to not look the legs? or not coment the body? i mean you should always think what you wearing on a performance, if she just tape it for fun expect comment with no real subject on it jajaja still very very pretty legs :D

  • @handler COME ON guys! will you, one day, stop thinking that we wear dresses and skirts just to be looked at? ><

  • @FunnyRacoon COME ON GIRL! FISH NETS!!!!! i mean FISH NETS! hey how about this i will wear tigth pants and a tigth shirt showing my abs just because i love to make obvius comments not because i wanna show off to all those that dosent have a 6pack .... duh! or how about this! i didnt finish the college for the work! i did it because its fun to spend money in bullshit while i will be living fliping burgers and cutting gardens!

  • Beauitful legs!

Oh and the music is good too. Eb minor, my favorite key!

  • @yuutokun Eb minor <3

  • you are very beautifull and intensly girls

  • I remember playing this, though she did a better job than I :)

Far more clarity in her performance at 2:08 and 2:47 (and all similar sections), I like.

Also, I *wish* I'd had the chance to play it on a Bosendorfer--I LOVE those pianos.

  • Very nice performance. I like the clarity and the tempos! Great job

  • god sound and beautifull legs XDXD

  • Աստված օրհնի Հայաստան.

  • Hey for all you guys know, she could be a butter face. That's why I'm only going to compliment the performance. Good shit.

  • Brilliant performance but can't the uploader remove the comments made by idiots, sorry, petty minded people, who talk of legs.

  • Very nicely expressed. Wonderful accuracy and sensitivity. The only thing I didn't like was the upper register of the piano - but the performance was spectacular! Well done.

  • Very good interpretation for a very difficult piece. Bravo

  • Lovely interpretation. Personally, I prefer this tempo to the one I usually hear this piece performed at. Every single note in the piece is heard and none are lost in the mud. Thank you for posting this.

  • I think you played it very well. But maybe it´s better if you play it faster.

  • It's amazing how many different interpretations this piece can have...

  • wow... that's amazing... simply marvelous...BRAVO Sonya !

  • a little bit too slow in my opinion

  • @PRObifidus Same :)

  • i luv it it is so amazin!!!!!! <3

  • not bad, but even your beautiful dressing can't replace a great performance

  • great job...i like how you have draw this piece...accept in a taste of how the piano sound...i think you had really did a great job...

  • Wonderful played! I have played this myself, but I have an own inprentation which at least I find very cool. I like yours, you play with a lot of emotion, and have great technic as well.

    Cheers August

  • Once again, Aram X (Kh) would be so proud! Shnrorakal utyun!

  • Very well played! I remember how much I loved to play this when I was 15. It is exhilarating. Better at this tempo than much to fast. However, I found some of the rubato a little weird.

  • this is a very original and intresting interpretation! a breath of fresh air!!! (i have been playing this piece for over a year now, and I strugle with keeping it interesting but i think you have found a new and great way to play it!)

  • I love your playing. The best rendition I ever listened >

  • I played this last year (playing piano for 8 years, 14 years old) :D great piece, but I played it different (musically) :D

  • Sa tenue vestimentaire n'enlève rien à son immense talent, d'autant plus qu'elle est également très jolie. Bravo Sonia Kahn

  • @soulechene Merci pour votre commentaire...

  • @Sonya, your performance is my favorite of all I've heard on youtube. You play the piece brilliantly, but as others have said, you do not blare through it. There is a slight push and pull to your tempo that I like -- at the very end of the introduction, you pick the pace up just enough to show that you could play it faster if you chose to. But thank you, thank you for not jackhammering through the piece like so many others do. Ignore the creepy misogynists! Play on!

  • So, somebody explain this to me. A very talented performer, does an amazing job on an fantastic piece. Yet, the highest rated comment is "i like her legs"

Seriously, guys? You couldn't pull your minds out of the gutter for ONE second, to appreciate a wonderful performance?

  • @FaythInTheMusic why dont you live a little or something.

  • Comment removed

  • @FaythInTheMusic Her legs are part of the performance, if you look very closely they dance wonderfuly with the music. ;D

  • @FaythInTheMusic Thank you!!

  • @episthmh2008

Ok your playing is beautiful, yet I just can't help but see that fishnet... lol

But this was nontheless just magnificent!!!

And I am planning on learning this piece sometime soon. Is it hard to learn or is it that easy-sounds-hard type of piece?

  • @muffinzilla

I remember I had some problems with some rythms in certain parts but anyway this is a real pleasure working on that toccata. and you can spend hours trying to get the best sound and interpretation... i simply love it !

  • @muffinzilla It's definitely the easy-sounds-hard type, if you don't mind it being in 6 flats. It's fairly repetitive and aside from a few tricky rhythms, it's not particularly difficult at all. If you're a decent pianist you should be able to learn it without much trouble =]

  • @FaythInTheMusic Why else would she be dressed like that if that wasn't the effect she was going for?

  • @FaythInTheMusic They are yummy! As far as pulling our minds out of the gutter--hey she is going out of her way to call attetion to her bod

  • @FaythInTheMusic come one, you don't dress like that for not being seen!

    However, amazing performance :)

  • @FaythInTheMusic i like her legs

  • @FaythInTheMusic she does have nice legs

  • Yes, they are nice... the arpeggios, that is.

  • @FaythInTheMusic if she did not like to show her legs she would never show them particularly on STAGE! Wearing this kind of clothes means that she wants men to see it...

  • @FaythInTheMusic

She must have picked that skirt so we would look at her shoes..

  • Great JOb!

check out mine too plz :D

  • you missed some notes 5:08-5:11

  • @Injustsu I sang those notes... didn't to hear it??

  • Well done girl! Wonderful performance - and the most important of all: NO over-speeding for the sake of impression - as the other two video responses did....:-)

  • This was one of the best performances of this piece that I have seen on YouTube! You maintained your posture throughout the whole piece, and it was very musical and consistent. Only one flaw: at 0:50, the rhythm is wrong, unless you were using a different edition... Congratulations on a successful performance!

  • This is great :P Visit my channel if you want to see me playing it :D

  • Best interpretation on YouTube, - especially the last statement at 5:03 - just perfection.

  • Too bad that sound quality ins't as good as it could be... Still - alright!

  • My God, you play so good. Aram would be so proud of you. Sonya, you look and sound so awesome. You smell good , too, I just know it. Kisses for Sonya, Oh yeah.

  • @AIKevorkian

    "You SMELL good"

    WTF ?

  • @PRObifidus -It's an Armenian thing...we like to "smell the girl" and make her feel REAL good inside and out. And every girl smells different! OK, shut up, A.

  • @AIKevorkian

    Lol

  • Misa Amane can play the piano~

    lol jk

I love this piece! =] good job!

  • @PunkyHearts Oh my god, lol! I can't get it out of my head now, every time I look at the screen I see Misa playing the piano XD

  • great!

  • this is just epic

  • In my opinion, she's not playing it fast enough at the beginning. Other than that, great job!

  • This is how Khatchaturian is supposed to sound-- hard and agonizingly beautiful.

  • Its difficult to look at the piano

  • @MatheuSRhapsody yeah thats why you play it in the background and do something else, pervert

  • @MatheuSRhapsody do you really need your eyes to listen???

  • I performed this too with this vid as reference while learning it. Mine isn't as perfect....but click on my username and check it out!

  • People playing it too fast doesnt sound good but she plays it perfect..

Im working on it too.. Keep on playing :D

  • wow, i love the way she performed this song, diferent people play it different ways, and she played it right

  • I want her and that piano installed at my place.

Seriously, this is a gorgeous composition performed by an even more gorgeous lady.

  • ummmmh...che bona...e che belle calze!!!

  • Finally, a piano recording done right - without all that artificial reverb that ruins everything. Listen to Horowitz recordings - none of that echo that you ALL over the place these days.

  • @drmrh01 is there a recording from horowitz?where can i find it?

  • Well done! Bravissima!!

  • Nice to year a Bosendorfer artist for once.

  • fuckin loving it... never heard anything like it.

  • Ashley5ash, i'am playing the piece too.

i find that part hard as the rhythem is really difficult. You just have to go about it calmly. Goooood Luck!!!!!! x

  • Amazing =] nice piece mi'm also learning it at the moment =] wonderful intonation !

  • Regarding your sources - it's either a typo or different publishing company...

  • Hmmm At 4:14 the right hand is B-G-B Flat and she played B-F-B

  • It's bfb... check your sources!

  • jewels like this make me love you tube. The piano itself is a star, richer to my ears than the " standardway". Wish I could be under the piano listening; blindfolded of course.

  • Wow, thats amazing! i am playing this piece too and it very hard to learn!

  • Can anyone help me? I am playing this piece and I am stuck. I cant play the section between around 3:00 to around 3:45. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to practice that section? (Please press reply)

  • Comment removed

  • aha that is the most complex part of the piece. just slowly go over it like you would any other piece (left hand then right hand) then bring them together slowly.

  • Hi Ash. Those 45 secs. are the most difficult to learn is because the rhythm in both hands is different. Around 3:04 your right hand is playing 4 notes in the time your left is doing about 6. Then the right does 4 and left does 10. My advice is try to look at the sheet music and see what notes are played at the same time. Then work out the ones in between. Also at 3:20 the left does an F minor scale up in octaves (simple, no?). If you need more help hit up my account for my e-mail. Good luck!

  • Thanks... I have the music, (I play horribly by ear) and I still haven't learned that part. Sad isn't it? I just find it difficult to play the 10 and the 9 and the 6 in the left hand while the right hand is doing 3 and 4. Also, on the part after the octave scale, I also am having difficulty with that. On a different note (bad pun), I have gotten a little better at the section all together.

  • You're very welcome :) I understand! It's super frustrating too because it needs to be practiced uber slowly and the piece is so fast! I'm sure you'll do well :)

  • This woman's awesome. What intimate phrasing! And she's got style, too.

  • This interpretation is amazing *5 stars*

Though I do think that the studio-type recording and any "cleaning" has left it sounding muffled and dull.

  • well done darlin amazing ! u know u gotta be very talented then u can play some '' Aram Khachaturian'' stuff ,, congratulations !!! i wish u all the best ;)

  • Love it.

  • it´s my favourite piece !!!!

I did it for my exams.. i love it.. You play it really really really good , thxs

  • Ceci est les exécutions les plus remarquables que je jamais ai entendu. Vous avez la grande vitesse et je peux entendre chaque note clairement. Travail REMARQUABLE. Garder à lui.

  • WONDERFUL! i can hear every note very clearly, and none of the notes blended slurred. beautiful :)

  • Oh boy, I´m learning that at the moment

  • Beautiful piece and interpretation!, five stars :)

  • Different editions of the same classical piece from time to time have different notes and symbols.

  • Very interesting interpritation! I like it a lot! It is unique very much!

  • Sweet. It's the most musical and precise of all the performances I've heard. I hate it when people sacrifice musicality for speed. Thank you for not doing that! (check the left hand on the repeating D-flat minor chord section. When the F-flat changes to F-natural, the bass note should be an E-FLAT not a D-flat, if I'm not mistaken. ...not to be too picky or anything) :) Awesome job.

  • I have a new vid posted of me playing this at a recital. check it out.

  • Really nice work! I highly enjoyed it :).

  • Very clean and well done! I posted a video response of me playing a few years ago. I prefer to play it up tempo just a bit, except for the rubato section

  • amazing!

  • around 48 the piece sounds too much like popular music.

  • beautiful

  • This is how the song is supposed to be played, controlled... Most other versions I've heard are sped up, a sign of lack of control, especially with this song.

This song is amazing to the touch when performed.

  • uh...yeah right

  • I am speaking from experience with this piece my friend, I am sorry you feel otherwise.

  • It was very good, but I didn't agree some of the rubato during the triplet section.

True, there are many patterns as tfman15 said, but it takes a very long time to learn them.

I needed to know what the slow part sounded like because a lot of the rhythms (like 9-lets), there is no real way to count them...you kinda just have to fit them in, and I very much enjoyed the way you played them. THAT rubato was really cool.

  • I know this sounds very hard, but there's really several patterns in this piece that makes it easy if you get it (which I did LOL). It's very beautiful.

  • Šťabajzna pěkná...

  • I'm learning this piece, and I watch this vid when I need to know how to play something and I absolutely love this song!!

  • kinda attractive, a girl that play this piece as well as she does.......

  • Thankyou Sonya so much for not massacaring this great composition,as many have on You Tube ! I loved your interpretation.

  • original interpretation, is her own conception, is very nice version..

  • Great! 5***** !! The best interpretation of this piece on youtube! I play it at the same tempo like you! And I think it is ok..

  • Wonderful playing.

    Visually (negatively) distracting though. =\

I prefer conservatism with my classical music instead of the clash.

  • Are you gay?

  • Yes sir, you win xD

  • Nicely played. You didn't drown this in pedal like so many others have here. It had a nice clarity, good dynamic range, and you did some good stuff with the part-writing. The Bösendorfer's lovely too.

  • okay dude we saw it!! i keep finding this on every video of this piece i click on

  • this is the best interpretation of this piece on youtube! unlike others, its got so much clarity, and there isnt huge fluctuations of tempo.

  • That piano is beautiful... wow. A busendorfer grand? holy cow!

  • Finally! Someone who does not butcher this beautiful piece! Great job! Wonderful dynamic contrasts! Good phrasing! Excellent clarity! You really understand the piece (unlike everyone else on youtube). Thanks for this.

p.s. Please send this video to the Alladin Brothers, I think they need a reality check!

  • I prefer the one of allangrando, but i like this version as well.

  • Comes off a bit more like an impressionist piece of Ravel, but very very interesting and at least original!

  • i wish i could play it this good

  • You brought out every bit of the beauty and excitement of this composition by not rushing through but by dwelling on every single individual beauty. An intelligent, sensitive and enthusiastic performance. Exactly the way I would like to play it. Bravo!

  • Very artistic performance. You have given lots of attention to the dynamic markings and also apply your own expressive interpretation. A lot of the performances on youtube are rushed and lack continuity between sections of varying note density, but you keep the tempo changes very convincing.

Great job! Keep posting videos. :)

  • Beautyful!! Both, the music and the girl :P.

I love the way you play this piece!

  • a little too "well-behaved" for my taste but not bad!

  • One of the greatest renditions of Toccata, if not the best. All the Khachaturian I can play is my muddy take on his Andantino, a fun, short piece. What I'd give for the the hands that can play this :).

  • what a wonderful and individual intepretation, never heard it played like this. Girl, you are fully rockin hard :)

  • I really enjoyed how you played this piece. Many people play it much faster with little emotion or feeling. I think the way you play creates more tension and release than most players.

  • I really like the speed you play it at. I think it's actually supposed to be played faster, but some of the people who play it that fast make it a little muddy.

  • I like your approach. Most people play this piece way too fast for me. Where did you record this?

  • We need angels like Sonya.
