What about the fact that people just simply stopped hiring the disabled for fear of being sued if they ever had to fire the employee. Unintended consequences
@AroundSun absolutely right. not to mention, the ada has probably increased unemployment for everyone else because of the increased risks and regulations of starting/running a business.
lool k i tried to watch this with a serious face because i could tell from the title it would be funny. but as soon as that old stupid lady in the wheelchair came on i jus cracked up straight away. i have a video dedicated to these people on my channel
All I see here are people in wheelchairs. I see nothing for mental handicaps. I have heard about the blind. Do you have anything like for a woman with a brain disability. Yes I need accommodations too. Are brain disabilities more rare than physical handicaps?
Yes it is. It is perfectly reasonable. The "direct threat" concept is, indeed, an exception, but "direct threat" is defined, in the statute, as "a significant risk to the health and safety of others that cannot be eliminated by reasonable accommodation."
If a reasonable accommodation could eliminate the risk, the entities bound by the statute are required to engage in said accommodation. Period.
This law never had enough teeth, especially in penalizing discriminatory employment practices. What a farce, esp after Dubya couldnt resist taking a hatchet to it!
@jbird0168 Yes, W took some of the teeth out of the ADA in favor of the employers. I have done some research on the matter. And the ADA rarely comes down on the employees side. And mental handicaps are worse. Most of the time, they tell you to take it to a personal lawyer. (Rather then them get involved) Because they know that most of the disabled can not afford the lawyers. And besides that, all the employers has to do is lie, and they are in the clear.
As a blind person I find it helpful to have braille on such ATM machines, how else can I find the buttons on a machine, that maybe different from the one up the street?
It's reasonable for the law to demand they immediately help disabled people ahead of people who are waiting in line? How? Isn't that special treatment not equal treatment and isn't that kinda patronizing?
The women's movement wanted to let women vote amongst other things, the black movement fought poll taxes discrimination under the law amongst other things. To compare this to ADA is insulting.
The ADA is a horrible law, designed to control the masses. An excuse for limitless lawsuits. Purposefully vague? Is it reasonable to require braille at drive up ATM machines?
Yes. Its just brail on buttons and once the chages go in they do not have to cost as much in the future, because all new machines will have the buttons.
Real clever. But when you're driving your mom to the ATM and SHE uses the braille cause she has lost her sight, YOU will understand, only then, apparently, that the ADA is for EVERYone. The non-disabled are "TABs": Temporarily Able Bodied. One accident and wham, even you will be so glad so many struggled so long for the ADA.
But of course the drive up ATM's have the ATM's on the drivers side. How about this one...you can't design a public building today with round doorknobs, they must be levers. American Freedom? Did we vote on that? But thank you for the NEW PC term (TAB) for myself. A great way for me to feel bad about feeling good.

Good on G.H.W. Bush for signing the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was definitely a gesture of love and consideration for his son's needs.

Small business owners and municipalities don't take advantage of the tax breaks available for improvements which are in place as part of the ADA.

Crap...I might be disabled...because I am more comfortable when I'm more able to hear see or feel my change.
I agree with some of the mandates like the doorknobs...heck it makes my life easier too, but I think amendments are in order...handicap spaces xD

The ADA has been proven to not help disabled people

i dont find it patrionizing...
sometimes we need 'special treatment'
e.g boarding a plane before everyone else

No, the fact brought up is how many blind people are DRIVING.

Avoids the usual "preachy" or patronizing tone one hears in (too) many PSMs.
Well done!
