I remember watching that game as like a 13 year old. Best hit I ever saw. Humphrey crumpled. Today though, Gary would probably be fined for leading with his helmet.
I worked with on TEMP. job for Kelly Services where we worked for the Jefferson Parish school transportation depart. as temporary phone operators (or something like that). He was a cool person.
THANK YOU!! Been looking for this for years. I always talk to Giants fans around the country and every time this play comes up. It has to be one of my favorite plays of all time. More than the helmet catch as sweet as that was.
Gary Reasons and Pepper Johnson in the middle of that LB crew... can you say solid. Gary was a very realiable player, and I still remember the NFC championship game, when Reasons ran the very fake punt that he had ran against Denver to put the Gmen in position to win the game... man, what memories. Great vid... but we want more Gary Reasons.... :) Please post stuff from the NFC Championship game... one of my favorite games ever... up there with last year's Super Bowl win over the 18-1 Pats.
I've been searching for this video for years! Thanks for putting it up. This hit has always been locked in my memory... I remember watching it live. Among the greatest football hits ever.
I agree totally. I watched it live also and still remember it after all these years. I'm a die hard Cowboys fan from Irving, but this hit from a true Giant was one for the ages. Good commentary from the kid, also. Hope he does well.
Best hit ever!!! I've been looking for video on this forever. Did any of you notice on the shot from behind Humphrey that his mouthpiece actually comes flying out of his mouth and is tumbling through the air.
You may well be correct. I remember this game so well. Been a Giants fan forever, grew up near the Meadowlands. I remember LT being out for this game. Ah, the Giants linebackers in those days, even the backups, were outstanding. I've really been looking for video of this forever. Reasons was a great player, just rock-solid. Reasons, Banks, LT, Andy Headen, Pepper Johnson...the best ever. I'm gonna watch it again right now!!
Don't forget about Harry Carson in the mid-80's. Throw in a George Martin at NT and a Leonard Marshall at DE and you've got what is joyfully remembered as The Big Blue Wrecking Crew. I love the current team of course and their Super Bowl win was as sweet as it gets for a die hard Giants fan but there will always be a special place in my heart for the Parcells teams. I don't see any way that will ever change.
I watched that game loved it..back then the G-MEN had the best linebackers in football

Awesome play by Gary Reasons in what I consider one of the greatest regular season games in Giants history.

And you never see this hit on any of the
Best Hits compilations either. If I remember right, the G-men really needed this game, and if he doesn't stuff Humphreys it's a whole different game.

Dude, good eye but I think it's a crescent-shaped piece of padding from the helmet that is seated below the ear hole.

Maybe the best Pro Football hit ever, doesn't get any better than that: Goal line, 4th & inches, in the snow...
