I know, perfect music to milk by ;) What I find is listening to podcasts makes it pretty effortless. As a mama to two small kids it's my one time alone in the morning. I use to feel some guilt of not relishing in the silence but there is so much I'm interested in so it's a treat to just milk and listening to my favourite programs in peace :)
I find it very zen to milk by hand. I've found that there is a sort of mind-set, especially during the parts of the year when I'm milking 2-2 1/2 gallons a day, or more than one cow by hand. It seems like if I anticipate the pail being full it takes extra long and my hands cramp up. I've learned that if I stay focused and in the moment, without thinking about filling the pail up, it becomes effortless.

I like the music!
