  • Wow! I love your salsa video. Very simple and nice ★★★★★

  • Salsa On1 is Casino and On2 is Son - in the end it all comes from Cuba, as well as Mambo, Cha cha cha (not "Cha cha"), Rumba, etc - everything else just derives from Cuban rhythms

  • U-Tribe is right. It´s Puerto Rican Style "on2"! The foot marks the 4 and 8 - like in Son of course!!! What you mean is the Puerto Rican Style "on1" - in most parts of the world better known as LA Style - but there - versa to PR Style - the man mostly STANDS and make the lady turn...

  • Bigspaceal, If you want to explore the PR style, search for Troy or Jorjet. Troy usually dances PR style and there are loads of clips of him here online. You can actually send him a private message. As for the quick- quick-slow, I think that is more to do with on1 dancing. With on2 NY dancing, the transition has to be smoothened out as there is no pause on 4 and 8, like with on1. To smoothen the movement, I don't pause when I dance on 234 and 678 (PR) or on1 either, but that's just me.

  • My understanding of PR style is dancing 234 and 678, but breaking fwd, as I already explained. Clearly, Utribe also agrees. But, I have also heard someone say that PR style is dancing on 123 and 567, but breaking fwd for the guy. So it seems you have to continue your research..lol. Personally, I believe the quick quick slow thing confuses a lot of people. And the rock step comes from your weight placement, which is more to do with one's style, though the purists may disagree.

  • I am having a hard time distinguishing between PR style an NY style. If you count out all the beats when they are dancing PR style, their feet hit the floor on 1-2-3 and 5-6-7 even though the leader is counting 2-3-4 and 6-7-8.

If both styles follow the rhythm of quick-quick-slow, then the only difference between PR style and NY style is that in PR style there is no slightly-in-place-starter step and the leader breaks forward on2 instead of back on2.

    Am I missing something?

  • Dont forget the youtube bug which creates a discrepancy between the sound and the video could be the reason why you think the counting is the same. Just make sure to step on 234 678 for PR style, and 123 567 for NY style. Because of their difference, some moves have to be modified a bit to suit NY style, and vice versa.

  • Ok, so in NY style you really start on1 but break on2. Are you saying that in PR style you start on2 then break on3?

  • Not at all. For PR2(or atleast on this video), you just break forward on 2, and break backwards on 6. I watched it again and the demo is fine on my computer, though steps 4 and 8 were initially slow.

  • Hmmm, I'm still not getting it. If you break forward on beat 2 and expect to step on beats 3 and 4, you are really dancing on1 style just shifted by a beat which is the original mambo. The reason is, if the rhythm of the dance is quick-quick-slow, and your first step is a rock step then you are just dancing mambo steps. But if your first step is a step slightly in place, and your second step is a rock step, you are dancing NY style.
