  • They really need to start using better mics on these reviews.

  • can you make a drum kit (or any other sample collection) on a single part, when each note on octave has unique sound assigned to it, and then play it all from keyboard through MIDI?

I ask because 8 parts is not that much really for complex patterns.

  • seriously dude. This is a problem for many people posting to you tube. they do not check the levels of their video before posting them and the audio is either clipping or way too low. I watch videos all the time and I did have my mixer level down before it started this one is just one of those vids thats WAY TOO LOUD and should be EDITED before it is posted on to youtube. c'mon, you guys are like sound engineers. you should know this!

  • @elsid505 youtube is dangerous for your ears

  • ya and seriously check your levels before posting because before you even played anything the video almost blew my speakers. and my mixer wasnt even half way to maximum. WTF!!!!!

  • @elsid505 If you have a mixer you should know that all videos have different signal levels. Start low and turn it up from there

  • hey john man u really should demo some actual sampling, not just hit play on something that's pre cut and pre sequenced. i wanna see if this thing is fluid to use or if it's like playing with stuff i've been using for the past 20 years u kno. i'm waiting a long time for someone to make a decent usable sampler. u didn't do anything here that i haven't seen b4. but thanks man. hope this thing is good.

  • Seems like a nice piece! i still prefer hardware when it comes to Drum machine/samplers, pads seem a little bit small though

  • Seems like a nice piece! i still prefer hardware when it comes to Drum machine/samplers

  • Can't wait for NAMM 2070!!!! that will be the year someone gets the brilliant idea to use something other than the mic on their goddamned iphone to record a FUCKING AUDIO DEMO YOU DUMB MOThER FUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @certificate18flix Word !

  • i really don't get it.. most of what makes this video interesting are the samples themselves, not the effects or rhythmic manipulation. changing tempo and time stretching are nothing new and hardly worth the hefty price tag of this thing. i'll stick with ableton + an apc40.

  • meglio il kaosspad3

  • This thing can do useful rhythmic manipulation can it?? Jeez

  • I WANT THE OCTATRACK !!!!

  • He sounds Estonian

  • 5:23 Cybotron - clear, wtf is the drum machine even making any of those sounds?

  • I want the very same hair cut

  • this thing looks fucking sick , even though this guy is playing crap!hardware is the shit! fuck abelton and reason that shit is for nerds who like to sit on computers all day!

  • i want his job without the talking

  • wtf is with all this Elektron-ese hyperactive knob turning - to do hardly anything. is it not possible to look like a self-absorbed IDM-twat when using one?

  • @shaft9000 Your Sherman filter bank video isnt much different than this ,much less your other vids. Quit trying to hate on people.

  • @noviellion

Have you ever used a real-time step sequencer live? There's no hate here, man. I'm as intrigued by this as anyone - the concept sounds fantastic, as usual. but... then to see it used like this; all this supposed sampling power only to play back pre-mixed loops like on a Boss SP-202... to take ten knob-turns to open a (boring) filter?? this is totally wtf-worthy if implemented this way - especially in a LIVE performance machine.

  • @shaft9000 10 knob turns to open a filter? have you ever used elektron gear? Their knobs have two modes: one for fine tuning a parameter (to get the settings just as you want them with parameter locks); and a very responsive mode (7x as responsive) when you push down on the knobs.when you say "self-absorbed IDM-twat", it seems like you're expressing preconceived disdain without any knowledge of the gear; the same description could be arbitrarily applied to any current electronic performance tool

  • @MachineGunBallad you basically said what I would have said with a little better elaboration. thx

  • @shaft9000 I only use sequencers in real time, software and hardware, thanks for asking. The filter section consists of three knobs not ten, I'm quite sure because I have an SPS-1. The knobs have incremental settings so it does seem cumbersome to turn the knob so much without a great instantaneous change.

  • is this guy on amphevitamin ?

  • lol zombie nation track @ 3:40

  • this doesnt have the same level of gear lust that i felt for the MD or MM

  • When it comes to digital sampler ABLETON + CONTROLLER more hardcore than this machine!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY :))

  • I always here people saying Elektron kit is overpriced but as I own both a MD and MM both are worth every penny. I guess "expensive " is subjective, right? you absolutely get what you pay for with Elektron products. Sign me up for the Octatrack!

  • @mczimdk You are right - they are for specialists, not the mainstream user, so the price will be a bit higher.

  • This is like Abelton live in a box....this shit is too fresh

  • looks good for on the fly work...but korgs microsampler is better than this and half the price.......nice demo of product though....

  • @techstyle123 ...... i don't think korg microsampler better than this one...elektron's better sequencer, more knobs to tweak your sound, this machine is good for producing and live in the club, especially for electronics music. korg maybe good for hip hop, but don't have any drum pad.

  • gonna be a tough sell imo

  • O C T A T R A C K !!!!!!!

  • That's a ton of knob twidling for not much audible changes. And is it really so hard to capture some friggin direct audio from the device itself? Needs better demo this makes it look too much a DJ box.

  • I would buy it if it was like 800 dollars, but no more cuz you can get a laptop for that much.

  • anachronism

  • Looks like a completely pointless machine. "Ableton in a box?" Ableton is already in a friggin' box: it's called a laptop. And an APC40 costs a fraction of the price anything from Elektron does.

  • @bixiecribs hahahahahaha

  • @bixiecribs this kinda of machine is really helpfull if you're doing live in a club or festival or fast producing music without turn on your laptop.

  • @orientalflux Why? You can't play live with a laptop? Just check out the APC40 for Ableton.

  • @bixiecribs yup, I play a lot with my laptop for live with ableton live and sampler as well...since 2000 I performed live using groovebox , keyboards and sampler.... for me additional machine like groovebox, sampler and keyboard still essential. The feel when you turning the knobs to tweak the sounds, and the sound comes out from the keyboards is different if you use vst....by the way you can check my videos as well how I perfom live using ableton live :)

  • @bixiecribs often wondered the same thing until i got an mpc1000. for hardware, it's really about workflow. yes, everything you can do with an octatrack (or an mpc in my case) could be done with ableton, but the work flow is drastically different. i can't tell you the joy of being able to make really interesting electronic music without ever having to click a mouse.

  • As it's a prototype then they could have an introductory price to get revenue happening and make the machine popular. I recon they need good cash flow in the short term and not to go for selling less at a high price point. The market isn't good for that at the moment. Learn the leason of Novation and their launchpad and deliver a popular product at the right price point for the feature set and hardware cost.

  • They should sell it for $1000 US or 600 Pounds UK street price. Looks like it would be fast to set up without all the laptop, controller and soundcard bother.

Looks ideal for bands that play to a backing track and for live electronica and for DJ'ing.

I think it would not be popular at $2000. Whereas they'd sell a bucket load at the price I mentioned earlier. People will either stay with their Laptop/Ableton set up or go with something like a Korg Micro Sampler if the price is too steep.

  • Oh the Swedes and their funky accents. And hats, apparently.

I just don't see the point in this. It will probably cost something like $2k. Why not just stick with the combination of a laptop, Ableton, a Novation Launchpad and/or a NI Maschine and go WAY beyond what this expensive toy is capable of.

  • One of the best demos so far

  • is he wearing a hat or is that his hair?

  • @dustysummer It was a beanie sitting far back on his head. Weird on camera.

  • @dustysummer

    Oh snap.

  • Good to see Jon is having a good time with the device, the sound might be horrible but the the octatrack is a amazing machine already from what i see now.

  • you can do a whole show on a banjo ;)

  • @mostillusions you can, but it's pretty boring. ;) You can do a whole show with a kazoo, but nobody wants to see that shit either.

  • Whatever it sounds like, the demonstration tracks always sound like shit. This video is proof.

  • Sounds more like like 8 tracks of Reasons DrRex in a box rather than ableton live in a box as some have been saying.

  • @aikighost yeah it does... but is that a bad thing!?

  • @PaPyKoG Not a bad thing just a little expensive for what you're getting. But then Elecktron gear is very comparable to apple gear. Good quality but overpriced.

  • @aikighost I kinda thought that until I bought a machinedrum UW a few weeks ago.... worth every penny!! : )
