  • nice recruiting method :)

  • very awesome! is this from a student who studied 3D Animation?

  • whats the sound at 0:29?

ive hearded in a lot of videos...

and the oldest source i think it is in, is the starcraft game.

  • What are some of the requirements for the school, I'm thinking about going after I graduate, which isn't for another 3 years. I already do some special effects, but not modeling simply because I can't afford the programs right now. but I'm think of getting maya and 3d max.

  • @xXMadTXx Hi, that's great that you're considering VFS! You can find information on the entry requirements on our website at vfs(dot)com/requirements. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

  • @xXMadTXx dude dint get both 3ds and maya, get one or the other!

3ds if u wanna specialise in games, maya if u want tv/film

  • coooool

  • Hey Vancouver! im seriously thinking about going here. I've been using Zbrush allot lately and i really enjoy it. Im wondering, can people choose what program they use??? i would prefer using 3ds max, Zbrush, and Topogun. (i use these allot) or do we use whatever you give us?? Also, are dogs allowed on campus?? i would hate to give away my dog Chewie :(

  • @TheKSProduction That is great! In our 3D Animation & Visual Effects program students typically use Maya and/or XSI, ZBrush and Renderman. These are the programs we commonly teach and have available for students. Vancouver is a very dog friendly city, so you most likely wouldn't have a problem finding accommodations for you and Chewie, but it is safe to assume that Chewie would not be able to join you in one of our computer labs.

  • I think the two beings are obviously himself. But it's his head, and his heart talking to him because one is coming from his chest and the other from his head. I can't tell if they're egging him on, or trying to stop him. It seems like the heart one is telling him he has more to live for.

  • Is one pulling the gun away and the other trying to make him shoot himself? O.o

  • hey.... is Vancouver a school for modeling and stuffs like that..??? jux wonderin..

  • @txlec99 Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! VFS offers 13 Entertainment Arts programs, including 3D Animation & Visual Effects. Find out more at vfs(dot)com/programs. Thanks!

  • nice composition and render.. and a good sound man..it remind me of something, and a lot of experience

  • Wow.... Me likes this allot...... Insipring...... Thanks for showing it....

  • Where is this music made?

The beauty of what is simple can transcend ... if you know the complexity of the journey.

    Thanks.

  • Nice hl2 fast zombie sound ^^

  • This story is done SO well, everything fits, that it is not animated only builds more suspense. And the idea of the ghosts coming out like that is phenomenal.

Creatively speaking this is (one of the) best things i've ever seen from VFS...

  • mas que mil palabras+que detonan en los karmas

  • :D--

  • only one word "WOW"

  • spettacolo

  • amazing, you must be pretty tormented IRL though man to do something like that

  • this is my 2nd fav reel i have seen from this school. It's well done and has a message. I like it a lot.

  • what is your most fav one?

  • umm... why so serious?

  • wow i have to say this is one of my favourite vid

  • First one was incredible, both artistically and technically.

  • thanks for watching ??? dude thanx for making ! .....

  • That's so awesome?

  • wow das ist echt cool!! good job! ^^

  • +1))

  • this is awesome (the music was a good choice)

  • My question is why none of them have hair in the suicide one lol

  • He got tired of being bald :(

  • well, that's the reason of the suicide lol

  • this is truley amazing but are the specter type charcters supposed to be making him kil himself or trying to stop him?

  • at 0:42 you can clearly see that the one is trying to stop him. but I don't know if the other one is trying to stop him too.

  • the suicide one was unbeliveable

  • If you havent already you can expect a job after you graduate.

  • suicide one a bit dark!

  • thats great

    amazing

  • Fave'd for the Howi.

Art is kickass too. Disturbing and thought provoking. My favourite.

  • highend. gj

  • awesome

  • WOW. Awesome but to an extent disturbing

  • fantastc

  • Thats really good.

  • solid piece of work, very well presented!

  • Evocative and insightful, well done.

  • nice. but depressing... lol

  • impresionante

  • this is were I wanna go in 4 years

  • im going in 17 months :D (i think 17, i start oct-17-2010)

  • Jaw dropping......

  • King Kong should appear in a toothpaste commercial

  • Great jobn Gedam .

  • So this is a mixture of 3D Animation and Film? Wow O.o, I am going to be doing this soon lol. Ima gonna apply at AI Vancouver soon. Ima excited ^^. Any advice?

  • give up if you need money

  • don't go.

  • this is insain, best ive seen in a long time. i love the whole idea of the first model :)

  • Perfect. Technique and art. You are the best of the whole videos of the VFS I´ve seen. You are the unique that have visual AND artistic talent at the same time.

  • VFS RULES!! congratulations man!

  • Amazing work!

  • whats the music in the first one or is it selfmade? if selfmade any possibility for sending it?

  • need i say amazing?

  • NIIICCCCCEEE Thats pretty wicked! 5/5

  • Great work!

  • this is FUCKING AMAZING! best 3d work i have ever seen on a reel.

  • I have all of the software u mention at the end yet I cant draw for shit. I wish I was dead :-(

  • Amazing video reel!

    Congratulations!

  • It's disturbing but your emotions are touched by the movement that was showed in every stroke. I love it! I like the way the mind and heart had been personified.

  • Nice job, good school!

Just have a look to ours and specialy the film "Nournours against Nounours"

  • I love how you portrayed the man's heart and mind on controlling the man's choice (well, I get that idea by seeing it). Everything was really good!

  • "The Struggle"? struggling between your heart and mind. your mind cant take it and wants to die, but your heart tells you no becuz who knows your probably close to being free, just need to wait a bit longer. the mind controls more of the body i think than they heart sometimes, which can cause a lot of hurt to the person and others around him.that is my worst fear, my heart is very kind which i try to act but my mind is half filled with things that even the devil wouldnt like to see.

  • nice cgi

    but disturbing :S

  • wow i really liked the first one where it seems like the guys conciance is tryin to prevent him from shooting himself

  • Oh, and this reel is absolutely amazing.

    The first example is just...Wow.

    Extremely touching and believeable.

The music choice made a great impact too...

GOD, I WANNA DO THIS SO BAD!!

    D:

  • I would absolutely love to go to VFS...

Sadly, spending near 50k a year is not in my budget.

    :[

Does anyone know any decent 3D animation/visual graphic schools in the U.S. that aren't on the west coast?

  • Texas A&M Viz lab ^^ It's a Masters program though.

Schooling will be expensive no matter where you go. In state tuition is cheaper than out of state.

  • that was the truth. I think im going to try and go to VFS

  • Would this be an acceptable real for a respectable employer? Is it ok to show so little of your work? What sort of field does this artist want to head towards?

  • what are you saying?

Im not the artist, but everything thing you saw was the artists work. So little of it? its 2 minutes! including wire frame displays. And animation at the end.

Yea thats acceptable work in order to get hired. The field is Post-production, CGI, or games.

  • Well I would consider two examples of work a little short but I'm aware that VFS pretty much set the standard. CGI? Arn't post and games CGI?

    Thanks anyway.

  • Post and CGI are not the same thing. Post can be any step of a production pipeline after filming, editing and sound design are considered post. CGI is 2D/3D animation or design. Games are entirely different, although still using computers, the "gaming" pipeline is different, and the final output is not a image... rather a real time render of an interactive enviorment.

    P.S.

Those two examples are really detailed. and probably took 8-12 months to create.

  • I am educated to some extent. Termonalogy wise CGI means computer generated imagery so although post and CGI are not entirely the same, a huge area of post will be CGI. Also real time applications are still computer generated so they will fall into the same category. Although the work is very detailed being a last year show real they more than likely took a good part of the year to create. Shame they'll have a matter of days to the same in a real working environment.

  • well you just said what i said, in different words. I am educated as well, and have been working in Post-Production for 4 years.

And yes, anyone who works on a 2 minute reel for a year is due for a rude awakening when they get hired into a real production. However, showreels like these are often learning projects, it doesnt mean they dont know how to re-make compositions like that faster the second time around. theres more to that project then just modeling.

May I see your demo reel?

  • Yea thats true. I haven't started mine yet, I've only just finished my first year of a Computer Games / CG Dynamics degree.

  • Well thats a pretty specific degree. may I ask what school you attend?

  • Teesside, UK. Do you have a reel I can see?

  • I just took my website down while I decide what I am doing with my company. Ill have to post it on youtube. I dunno how long that will take its 40 megs. My demo now is all commercial work.

  • Ah ok, what kind of post work is it you do? Video editing/colour correction?

  • I do animation, and compositing. Im a 3d generalist

  • Ah ok cool. Well thanks.

    Tom

  • One point of fact: final project development doesn't really begin until about halfway through the 1-year 3D program at VFS. (In fact, students don't even really begin specializing in Modeling, Animation, or VFX until Term 3 of 6.) Not to say they aren't doing preliminary work before that, but it's usually about 6 months from concept to complete reel - along with an ongoing course load, etc. To luckystrike1, last we heard from the artist, the reel certainly was enough to impress an employer...

  • stunning

  • are they begging him not to, or pushing him to do it?

  • Both!

  • excellent. this is amazingly powerful

  • masterpeicw indeed..am arjun too lol hats off broo..proud of ya

  • great work!

  • sweet! u could make awsome animated vids with them kind of image

  • respect!

  • I know this clip is considered a modeling reel but, WOW!!!, I think this is the first time I ever seen a modeling reel that tells a story.

  • even if that's short... it's the best damn thing i've seen so far!! it's genius man!! u should make a full short... a little bit longer explaining why is he about to commit su!c!de...

  • GREAT !

You should try to make a complete animated short from the first part.

  • I agree.

  • masterpiece

  • creepy

  • nice

  • wow!

  • genius

    -Jeff Briant

  • I hope I would see your name in a Hollywood movie one day...

  • I think u've got everything....u've got the skill..the mind..the heart and the soul,

    u r such a great artist!!

  • I can smell an Oscar in someone's future.....

  • very nice!!!

  • gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • intriguing - had to watch it over and over, have been him myself, first time i watched i saw it as his inner demons, then as i watched over and over i saw him fighting with himself as someone mentioned the good/evil hence the title of "the struggle" the mention of chakras was right on as well good video - wish they were separated though

  • Another interpretation comes to mind when you look at where the spirits come out of his body. The one urging him to do it comes from his chest, while the one telling him not to comes from his head. So it could also be the struggle between heart and mind, rational and gut reaction.

  • Superb work! I am impressed and jealous!

  • Amazing!

  • Está bien chingón, carnal.

  • first animation gave me the chills... in a good way. Very powerful is what I'm trying to say I guess. Very creative and moving as well. Great work!!

  • Symbolically well done, with the soul and spirit self trying to save the mental and physical body self.

  • absoltely stunning, models and lights!

    well done ;o)

  • wow, very beautiful , but very dark

  • Incredibly beautiful in the beginning. I could take any single one of those frames and frame it on my wall.

  • absolutely perfect

  • great stuff Arjun

  • sound on 33 seconds is from starcraft. Particularly tarren you find the sound... way to be original.

  • All this kick ass art, and you bitch about a sound? Hah!

  • Mesenoth there is nothing wrong with sampling sound clips as long as they are used effectively. You suck.

  • first animation... really really powerful... so much to say in that one.. O_o

    amazing! *favorite*

  • wow that is really touching especially the first part.

  • the first animation was fully amazing it realy inspirerd me in a wierd way, lol it was so good i shouted WHAT! in my local library...got so many funny looks lol

  • it inspired u to shoot ureself? wtf?

  • lol not to shoot myself u noob, to start 3D modeling again . . . lol

  • great job Arjun, see you monday

  • Great!!! :)

  • cool!

  • absolutely amazing

  • I like that your models change poses or are animated. That, along with subject matter, definitely sets your reel apart from most others.

  • Fantastic work!

The models are wicked great and very nicely detailed!

The cloth on the bed was very well done and placed, and the fur on King Kong was very nice, to the finest detail even the saliva in his mouth when he roars from pain!

  • great work!!!

  • Wow, so much pain...

awesome models, dude... and i like the fact that its not just a model sitting there in the middle of nowhere, it's a whole lotta more than that...

    congrats and good luck :)

  • Kudos, 5 stars.

  • NICE!

  • WOAH! terrific; i luv the 1st one!

That conscience animation model thing was COOL.

  • wow

  • <3 love it

  • What is the name of the song/music sample you used specifically at the start of this film????

I am working on a peice and that sounds almost identical to the sound of what I have had in my head for the music I want to use...please let me know if this is someone elses music or if you just created it.

PS: Great work on the film!
