  • Hi Shawn

Great video, I am a new left handed golfer and I am having problems hitting the ground then the ball. My forearms are sore and I need your help

    Thanks

  • @8881anthony

Hey Anthony! As a new player, the very best thing you can do is get my new 5 disc dvd series; it is all priority sequenced with 2 camera angles to take you through all the fundamentals like you have never seen them before and then through the swing to make sure you understand the feel of what it is like to swing THROUGH THE BALL AND NOT AT THE BALL which would cause you to hit shots fat; in the meantime, see "golf pro lesson the insanity of golf","Golf pro lesson strike it pure"

  • perhaps the most valuable golf instructional video I've ever seen.

  • Hi again Shawn. I've been working on getting more upright at my finish which to mean means clearing my hips more effectively. My swing thought at the range today was almost pulling the club left at impact which appears to work for me, well today it seemed to anyway! How does this sound to you? regards, paul.

  • hello

  • Brilliant !!

  • Matt and Shawn, Thanks. I have been working on keeping arms extended. I do seem to lose the spine tilt as I turn on the backswing... I am trying to "feel" as though my shoulders have to stay "down". On video, okay, not perfect, for one or two then "loosens up" and worse with the perpetual motion drill. You make it seem like it should be natural, but I can't seem to find that end point of the backswing.

  • you might have the same prob as mine.

My shoulder plane on the top of the backswing is too flat. My wrist hinge is very little and too late.

The video that helps me is something..called "Momentum Toss" which teaches me to "TOSS" the clubhead "up" the plane a little early in my backswing.

So now my wrist hinge is OK, my shoulder plane is more upright and since I have my wrist cocked, I cannot go pass parallel at the top of my backswing.

Try it, I hope it helps.

  • Toss the clubhead does help some - thanks. At first I was too loose with the club coming out of my hands a little, but then I tightened the grip a little and improves some.

  • The intensity of the backswing should be exactly the same as when you are in the follow through and letting the arms fall into the backswing and completely letting the body get out of the way like in the "golf pro lesson timing and tempo update"

Keep at it and it will evolve! Shawn

  • Shawn, Another great video, keep em coming!! I am having a problem with tempo/rhythm. Without a ball it seems I can stay in good rhythm. When I step up to the ball I tend to swing for the fences!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, you are the man!!!

  • the best drill i've found for integrating the rhythm and fluidity of perpetual motion into the actual swing is to (A) take your address position with the head of your club about 6 inches away from the ball, (B) go into your perpetual motion, (C) once everything is humming nicely (usually about 3 or 4 swings back and forth), step towards the ball with your left foot when you reach the top of the backswing and ...

  • Good one yes; Letting the weight of the arm club unit hit the shot; like in the "golf pro lesson perpetual motion drill" and or "golf pro lesson sequence power drills" videos; Shawn

  • Love your videos thanks

  • Shawn, how do I keep my arms from going to far back on the back swing of this drill - and the swing? I suppose I must be lifting the arms, but it feels like all is moving together - my club goes way past horizontal...

  • @CeeAB,

When doing the perpetual motion drill, don't allow the arms to collapse in either direction. Notice how Shawn's maintains full extension of the arms back and through. This is crucial because if the arms are allowed to collapse into the body, you now have to re-extend them to continue the drill....this is not true perpetual motion and will throw off your timing. Hope that helps!

  • Good tip from Matt; also check your tilted position throughout; start with "golf pro lesson proper spine tilt angle" and then check in on all 7 other videos that talk about tilt for max understanding;

    Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, Great video!! I have made fantastic progress with my ball striking after watching your "TILT" lessons. I have a solid "draw" with all clubs. The issue I have now is with shorter irons, I pull em left when aiming to target that is on the right. I tried to adjust club face at address but its not helping. Is my tilt causing problems when aiming at pin that is in the right edge of green ? Please let me know if the tilt requires any special alignment checks.Thank You.

  • Have a look at my "golf pro lesson tilted spiral part 3" video; it will shed some light on the issue! Shawn

  • I can't wait to try this drill at the range! Thanks Shawn.

    Dan

  • Shawn,

One thing that has helped me with only using the hips to toss the club is right before I turn for my backswing I lift the club just barely off the ground it hangs loose and it is easier to toss back....have you ever taught that or encourage it? It seems easier and doesn't catch with any of the ground and impeded my backswing.

  • Yes! Absolutely!

Great awareness there as the key to letting the arm-club unit swing into the backswing is to FEEL THE WEIGHT OF THE UNIT AT ADDRESS! Like swinging a sledge hammer or a heavy axe! Right on; Shawn

  • Shawn, I have noticed a tear developing in your net over the last couple of videos. I am curious, is this from ball impact wear? Is the net snagging on something we can't see back behind there? I am using similar netting in my back yard and have seen almost no wear?

  • The hole is where the seam of the netting is; it is not a tear in the net itself; this stuff is indestructible! Have had it for 5 years now and it will be there 5 years from now; the only weakness is in the seam...just have to get myself a good thread and needle...:) Shawn

  • I got that mat a couple months ago.. great mat!

  • Hi Shawn

Absolutely great stuff. Doing wonders to the tempo and rhythm. Any thing similar for chipping?

  • Sure! I have another video called "golf pro lesson perpetually putting" which gives you the same drill for putting and you can adopt this for chip shots as well!

    Thanks for the comment! Shawn

  • hey Shawn,

    Thanks for all the tips!

I have one question though... why do you tilt your right knee in at the start of the swing? I have never seen anyone do that before. Been wondering that for months.

    Thanks for all the videos!

  • This is an integral part of the swing; JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY DID THIS UP TO THE 60's and 70's; Trevino, Player, Palmer, Snead, Casper...I talk about it in my "golf pro lesson takeaway and starting the swing" as well as "golf pro lesson momentum toss" part 1 and 2; Shawn

  • Thanks for the quick reply. Ill be sure to check out those videos. Part of my problem was that I wasn't alive in the 60's, so I never saw it.

    Thanks for all the help.

  • In 5 Lessons, Hogan wanted the right knee pointed inward so It was "in business" the whole swing. I use this to help with my balance. Shawn, what do you think of Hogan's lifting the toes the in the shoes image? I know this drill and that image keep me from getting on my toes.

  • Thanks for all the great videos Shawn. Always makes me happy to see another one posted. Your vids have helped me cut my hcp in half last year, so I'm another one of your grateful costumers.

I have an issue with this though.

I'm falling on my heels, mainly when I'm "really going after it". Does that mean I have tried clearing my hips too aggressively? I will try your videotip, but would also like some insight on why this happens. Would appreciate your comments.

Keep up the good work :-)

  • This drill will do the same for you if you are falling on your heels; it just means that your center of gravity is too far back or you begin too close to the ball and are already on your heels at address; see how you do with this one! Shawn

  • Great video once again shawn. Your tips have always helped me out..
