whenever i try to hook up by keyboard to reason, it keeps saying that Midi could be in use with other applications... or along those lines. Ive literally spent hours on end trying to sort it out. I mean it was working fine for a couple of months but now it isn't. ive looked on all message boards and no suggestions. PLEASE HELP ME!

Someone help the noob plz :S...i have written down the guitar and now I'm creating an instrument (Kong Drum) to add a beat but no sound can be heard...
dear people who know reason, how do i record the notes from my midi controller into the sequencer? i can play the notes and hear sound on all the instruments but when i go into sequencer and record what im playing, no midi notes are recorded?? thank you for you kind answer :D
@GanEdenAustralia Yes you can, Reason 5 (and now Reason 6 as of September) has a built in sample editor that lets you edit your WAVs. On the NN-Nano module in Kong you just right click the sample you want to edit and choose "Edit Sample" from the context menu that pops up.
@GanEdenAustralia Because we have new cool stuff like 64 bit architecture and 64 bit Rewire support, audio transpose in the sequencer, new devices, a singular integrated platform with every device inside Reason. That's cool stuff and worthy of a release. Is new cool stuff sooner than you expected a bad thing? :)
@PropellerheadSW But My comp is 32 bit so pretty useless really. Why not rename it Reason 5 64bit? Is it a bad thing? Yes when people have to fork out AGAIN!! Greed rules though eh??
@GanEdenAustralia Sure your computer is 32 bit others aren't. 64 bit support was one of the most requested features from users. And nobody has to fork out. What's the difference between us waiting to release Reason 6 until you think it's been long enough and you waiting to buy the upgrade until you think it's been long enough? There's no requirement to upgrade... do it when you feel the new features are worth it for you. And until then, the users who want the new features can have them.
but i have a question i have the akai mpk mini pro. It has 8 pads 2 banks of sound which equal 16 pads. Can i use the 16 pads on the kong with my akai mpk pads? im new to reason i really wanna get it. I just have that question before i get it.
@guillomendez You can change the output of the kick drum pad to it's own output... say 3/4 for example. Then on the back of Kong there are separate outputs for 3/4 that you can wire up to an Mclass EQ.
@Song66 Yes it is... simply route the pad to its own separate output and then run that output through an EQ or into a Mix channel to use the SSL EQ and Dynamics on that pad.
It's a very cool thing to see the evolution of music technology. Hat's off to the people at Propellorheads and others who saw its potential. I enjoy imagining the reaction of musicians I'd known back in the 70s if I had this gear; they would have bowed to me.
Reason and Pro Tools together produce the best results. Especially with Boom for PT and the Xpand2 synthesizer. Take a look at my Pro Tools Reason setup and video showing how to use the two together.
@scheizzerkopf It's one of the reason 5 demo songs in the demo songs folder. Not only can you get the beat but you can open it up and see how it's created and wired. :)
@MrAndrewshepard Sorry! I was wrong. I just checked and it's not in the demo songs folder. I thought it was. In that case, I'm not sure what the song was. We got a bunch of songs from producers during beta testing and used a few for these vids. I want to say this track was by the Salazar Brothers but I could be wrong because I'm just going off memory.
Is there an one click option (or some other easy way) to load a rex loop with up to 16 slices into the kong, so that every pad triggers one slice? Or do I have to load every sample one after the other?
first things first I BOUGHT reason, haven't received it yet, but i wanted to know how the drums worked, do you have to have a pad for it to work? Or is there some sort of pattern editor?
@AndrewConfides You definitely don't have to have a pad controller to work. If you prefer pattern sequencing you can hook up both Reason Drum machines together. Redrum has a step sequencer on the front of it so you can connect cables from it to Kong and use the step sequencer on Redrum to trigger the sounds in Kong. Alternatively you can just use the sequencer to program Kong without a pad controller. If you have a regular piano controller too that would let you play Kong. Many options. ;)
@PropellerheadSW Thanks for the feedback to Andrew as I have been looking at different Tutorials on Youtube trying to figure out how to access the King Kong pad. Although I know it may be silly to add and the more advanced users may already know it, but Propellerheads should consider just throwing a small blurb at the end of the King Kong video that 'no external pad needed to program King Kong'. As an aside... I have been with Reasons for years, but I always struggle to make drum beats.
Yes i have my update from propellerhead. The kong is no joke. There's no need to go hardware these days. Save electric bill and still create nice sounds like if they were analog. Peace
@PunchingBabyz you need sound drivers. go to Asio4all . com and download the driver. i use it for fl studio as well. you'll not only get sound but you'll get it at a much better quality. hope that helps. :)
@Milsiz The Numpad is reserved for shortcut keys in Reason/Record, like "jump to left locator." I suppose you could use a utility like Quickeys to remap them, though. It's a good idea! Kong pads on your keyboard. :)
Kong is a dog toy company where u get to hide food inside the toy... sounds better than this.... why would any1 want the nightmarish interface of an analog device when they could make any interface they want on a computer. doesn't make sense...
@IIHumanBeatboxII You have to Re-assign the pads in your MPC. It is automatically set to GM or General Midi. When I owned a MPC 2500 I had to do the same thing. I don't remember exactly how to get to that particular page. Besides, their are so many different OSs out there, yours may have been different from mine any way. Good Luck.
I have Reason 4. Will my "favorite" instrument lists transfer into Reason 5, or will I have to make them all over again. Also, I have a lot of refills for Reason 4 and I really hop those will work as well. If anyone has an answer please let me know.
@dumpinfoolz420 I'm actually looking into it. I THINK you're okay but I don't want to tell you the wrong thing and wipe out your organizational work. I'll get back to you soon. Thanks.
Looks nice, I was expecting more features that could compete with the actual virtual synths market, yet its totally awesome the way they presented this, shame they added that last "reggaeton" beat, that totally destroyed the feeling I had about the new feature... I always tough that Propellerhead had they focus on high class quality productions.
@AnonymousMachine What do you mean? Are you inferring that quality and genre are synonymous to each other? Are you saying that Reggaeton is of less "quality" than Rock? Metal? Etc? Are you saying that Reggaeton is "low class"? Reggaeton was not the only music featured, and I believe Propellerhead is trying to attract users of all genres of "electronic" music..or music made electronically vs. live. It's up to the individual what they do with reason, for it's just a tool of expression. ;)
I want to record/automate the tape echo fx inside my kong, like trigger on/off, time, feedback etc.. but it doesn't automate the on/off function event though you can trigger it with MIDI controle. We also can't record/automate the WET/DRY so there is no way I can play around with the effect and then turn it off when I want to?
really like this a lot better than redrum. i like how its more simple to attach an effect to a certain drum sound now. the new drum sounds are great as well.
@thasameface85 No prob! I can help you! Just go to propellerheads[dot]se/shop. That's the link to get the full version of Reason 5. It even comes with a box, a DVD, a manual, customer support, and other registration benefits. Because that's what you meant, right? You weren't actually posting on our channel to find a crack were you? ;)
Don't mislead them. You can't "slice" samples as you can in recycle, in Reason....otherwise, why would you need to buy Recycle. Reason allows very limited options for sample editing/slicing....which sucks! For people who base their production on sampling...every other Daw has great options within the program for easy, automated slicing/editing within the program. FL Studio is the best option, in my opinion, for this "type" of application. Further, FL can host Reason via Rewire, sick!
If you have recycle to slice your samples and you got the kong drum designer.you got a dangerous combination.you can also use your mpc or drum machine as a midi controller to get a real feel.
@music4all80 you can most definitely do this. It was included in the final beta (don't know about earlier releases, I was in the final beta round) and the sold edition
What interests me most, is if there finally are decent heavy guitar (drop D) and bass guitar instruments or if reason is still for electronic music only. Does anyone know?
Hey Propellerhead, I got a community of people asking my opinion about Propellerheads new Reason 5, I'm selling it like I'm an affiliate, I'd love to be an official salesman, if interested, reach back.
@neuroxik Yes, you can load Rock samples, etc.....and yes, you will need Reason 5 to work with Kong, but have you seen the tutorials produced on Kong? what i find truly astounding is the fact that it's important to realize that Kong is a sound designer, you create the sound as you go, and if you can know or understand the filters, frequencies and algorithms of drums then you can literally start your own drum sample site.....
whats the name of the hip-hop beat at 0:18? Or where can i get the samples? Please?

If you have recycle to slice your samples and you got the kong drum designer.you got a dangerous combination.you can also use your mpc or drum machine as a midi controller to get a real feel.

How about designing your own sounds and not rely on others? Copying stuff makes that every dancetrack sounds the same nowadays.

Ok, so I noticed that they didn't let us hear any acoustic sounds. What's up with that???

Recommendations on a midi controller for Kong? Korg padKONTROL??
phase909 1 year ago
What interests me most, is if there finally are decent heavy guitar (drop D) and bass guitar instruments or if reason is still for electronic music only. Does anyone know?

@TheUAboMb125 Pretty sure it's a demo song in Reason 5 so the samples are found there and part of the factory sound bank.

@galbz No there's a sample slicer in Reason. Check out the live sampling microtutorial we did.
PropellerheadSW 1 year ago
@PropellerheadSW I think he's looking for an actual slicer and not that tinker toy you guys are passing off as a "slicer".
SuperTube1313 1 year ago

2 questions:
1 - Can we load rock-style drum samples, or is it just hip-hop/trance/techno drums?
2 - Do we need Reason to use Kong Drum?
neuroxik 1 year ago
@neuroxik Yes, you can load Rock samples, etc.....and yes, you will need Reason 5 to work with Kong, but have you seen the tutorials produced on Kong? what i find truly astounding is the fact that it's important to realize that Kong is a sound designer, you create the sound as you go, and if you can know or understand the filters, frequencies and algorithms of drums then you can literally start your own drum sample site.....

Will Reason 5 rewire into Sonar 8.5 64bit? Please answer.....
ShadowsofSmoke 1 year ago
@ShadowsofSmoke I'll look into that for you.
TodaysbeatsTV 1 year ago
@ShadowsofSmoke ReWire is 32 bit, so not at this time. Perhaps Props will update ReWire to 64 bit soon? :)
