Looks like there might be a couple more coming down - there's a pair of blocks off Kirkdale Road (whose names I forget now) that I've recently passed at night, and they were completely dark, so I'm assuming they too are abandoned.
ello mate! these 2 blocks, Candia & Crete Towers have just been bought by a developer & will be getting refurbished in the near future. They used to belong to John Moores Uni until last year, since then they have stood empty. Glad they are being saved as there isnt many left in Liverpool. I think they will look good of a night all lit up, they add to the skyline.
i agree with ya mate, Liverpool has knocked down far too many tower blocks. In Everton, down Netherfield rd, they should have at least saved a good few more & turned them into apartments as the view up there is amazing!
@MANCUNIANSAREGAY Why is it a shame these are disgusting buildings. Shit from the 60's and 70's. All of them around the country need to get taken down. And they will eventuly
Edinburgh has around 40 tower blocks, for a city of 400,000 + not that many, i think some of them are set to come down also, the sighthill estate in edinburgh has quite a few and i think leith has also but its hard to find pics of them on the net.
PADDYHTID- Yes, coming in to Waverley its hard to see them, although I always knew there was some. I live in Sunderland, which has a city population of 183,000 (excluding its council area) and there are over 25 tower blocks- some are actually quite attractive in colouring and design. I believe Edinburgh is closer to 500,000 now, which makes it even more unusual there being relatively few tower blocks. Perhaps its something to do with historic preservation of the Old Town?
It seems unfortunate- i'm sure there were good reasons, but im a big tower block fan- for me they are an essential part of the urban landscape, esp in the UK. Stoke-on-Trent, Edinburgh and Nottingham are unusual in that they seem to have very few (would appreciate if someone made a vid of tower blocks in those cities)- unlike Croydon or Glasgow.
Yes, I agree; are they putting up replacement flats though? I read somewhere, in Sheffield for instance there are a number of new developments taking place. So perhaps when these come down it doesn't mean the end of high-rise building. I would like to see your video- whats the title? cheers
PADDYHTID- Hi again, ive just realised all I had to do was look at the video on your profile. Ive just done that and youve a good collection there. I recognised a few, such as the tall brown coloured ones near Caledonian University. Ive been to Glasgow four times now. Its one of my favourite British cities and I can't imagine it without tower blocks. So thanks for the video!
Hey no problem, most of the blocks that are supposed to be coming down are to be replaced by low rise housing, semi detaches etc. Glasgow and the full of Scotlands population is actually decreasing so there is no real demand for high rises really, most people prefer front and backdoors or modern yuppie kind of flats, but who knows, just need to wait and see. Thanks for the comment on the video btw.
Hey there, I remember this Tower Block ( Corinth Tower ). Used to go past it every saturday night on the way to town when it was all lit up with residents! Do you live in Freedom Heights? The view from were this video was filmed? wb

@joshieboi005 no, i love buildings that dominate the skyline, i mean, no one would go to New York if it didn't have such an interesting skyline
YTPEXPERT 9 months ago
@YTPEXPERT So do I aswell but these are nasty 60's rubbish that make the skyline look poor and messy.
joshieboi005 9 months ago
@joshieboi005 go onto google earth and see the panorama of these flats, they look beautiful

@joshieboi005 damn, sorry, i just realized this isn't the red road flats video - lol

Yeah i think that is probably the main reason why there is not so many in Edinburgh.

We have over 200 here in Glasgow, but around half of them are set to come down within the next 15 years or so, its a shame, check out my video.

Most demolition videos never show what was left once the dust goes, first time Ive seen it actually, was pretty cool.
