This was a hoot, like Tom and Ray are. Interesting that Martin made the guitar. A friend and I visited the factory to see where his guitar was made. We had a friend who built his own and me doing woodworking, my friend wanted to build one. We went to Thompson Mahogany in Philly where I used to buy wood, to find out why Buss Thompson, one of the owners had 2 guitar necks on a shelf. They sold wood to Martin, and Buss gave me both necks, to build the guitars.
@davidjosephsmith11 Actually, that is Ray playing a righty bass left handed. They flip the video horizontally and over dub each other's voices to throw everyone off as to which is click and which is clack. Everyone knows the wiser one is the Tom, with the beard, Or is that Ray?
I had no idea....As a Martin guitar owner, a Bluegrass musician and a Click and Clack listener.. In my view, these two brothers have been elevated to Sainthood...Thank you for the video....
I've listened to Car Talk for years and it's wonderful to finally be able to place a face with the voices, let alone great musicians on top of that! Wonderful show, guys! I can't express how thoroughly I've enjoyed it.
Takamine? Seriously-Takamine!? The next time you need service work on your japanese/chinese/korean guitar let me know how that works out for you. There is a reason that Martin Guitars hold their value. They are worth it. Martin's Customer service is the best in the industry. Taylor's is so-so and anything overseas is non existant. You want cheap that's fine, but cheap and good don't go together.
Click and Clack are multitalented guys.... wow, they sure can jam!!!
I've been a fan of Tom and Ray Car Talk for several years now. I have learn a lot from them, enough to buy broken MGB that I am fixin on the weekends. I mostly enjoy how they can laugh at almost anything and turn misfortune into a happy accident.
I hope they continue to make Car Talk for many, many years.

I just can't get over the ignorant Martin bashing. The company has a ton of guitar options in various price ranges and has been making instruments for over 150 years. Blanket statements like they all look cheap, they are all over-priced, all Martin owners are snobs, etc... are just excruciatingly ignorant. Really guys? EVERY owner is a snob? EVERY guitar looks cheap and/ or is over-priced? EVERY single one? I'd love to see y'all back such sweeping generalizations up with solid evidence
here's one for you: i own a Little Martin which goes for about 280 bucks and for the size and what it is it's FANTASTIC (and my other guitar is a '68 Gibson J-50). it's not Martin's fault that idiots who buy them act snobby
martin guitars don't look like high end guitars they look like 200 $ guitars... they could put more effort in the estethic aspect of the instrument ..
These guys are a huge hoot i crank em up on the comedy channel when im at work lol one of my faves would proly be them talking to a guy from dogtown cal about a goat problem :)
I met them and they are great people. Also, would you prefer cheap Chinese guitars made with child labor and illegally imported woods. Sorry if I'm defensive, but I work at Martin and I think they are the finest guitars made. We have many price ranges too. Maybe you diodn't realize that?
@dickboak Oh be serious. Any Takamine is superior to any Martin and at 1/5 of the price. Martin stands for decent guitars and outrageous prices; Taylor's quality is a zillion times better but they're madly overpriced, too. At the end of the day, Takamine is the most guitar for the money out there, and they sound better and play more easily than any Martin.
@dickboak I think blumenthol is just an idiot who trolls videos. Take no offense. This guy has made a nice negative name for himself. Just look at his channel. He is obviously extremely ignorant so just ignore him.
Maybe you shouldn't watch the videos then. Martin makes quality guitars the right way, and they have been for almost two hundred years. Believe me, one comment such as yours is not gonna bring ther sale number down at all.
@blumenthol This guy wouldn't know his ass from a whole in the ground if someone shoved him in it. Martin IS the best and Click and Clack are Primo Guys. No question.
After hearing those voices for years coming from whatever radio was working at the time, not only is it a treat to be privy to this presentation, witnessing a side of Tom & Ray as Bluegrass musicians is a real treat! It's nice to see this, guys.

I loved this video. You guys are as much fun here as you are on your show (yes, I am a regular listener). One question though - What is the name of that song at the beginning? Your theme song. It is very cool (and YES, Mt Dew is also one of my favorites)!
Glad you noticed. They are surprising musicians and they are certainly deserving of the recognition. They've made me laugh so much I have to pull off the side of the road!
When I first saw the Click & Clack special edition, I scratched my head. Huh? As much as I enjoy their radio show, where's the music? Now I know. Thanks, Dick, for another fine signature edition. You're going to have to write a 2nd volume to your book soon! Duane 'ac5aa' on the UMGF
We only filmed that one song for the purposes of our little movie, but the guys get together regularly to play, mostly for fun. They have some great friends who are very serious bluegrass players. That's why the show has such a bluegrass theme.
No question, Bluegrass is an acquired taste. If you really want to hear some great Bluegrass and you're inclined toward other genres, mandolin guru David Grisman did Tom and Ray's theme song and he has two dozen or more terrific CDs. Mondo mando is one of my favorites
This is cool. Ray playing his guitar is sort of like Ted Williams fishing with one of his poles or hitting a ball with one of his bats. One might wonder when the American Chopper guys deliver one of their 'builds' if the customer could give it a spin like Ray did with the guitar. Talent on both the builder's and user's ends. Great! jkd
Because Click and Clack are completely into bluegrass, we chose to center in on the quintessential bluegrass guitar -- the Dreadnought -- prized for its volume and projection. So I guess we'll run with this for now. I agree with your suggestion in principle though. The OM is one of my favorites.
