  • Is injecting the vermilion border a standard part of lip augmentation. Or does the patient have to ask for that?

  • @albymontero92

Good question! No. Lips have many different anatomic zones and the vermillion only needs to be injected if there is inadequate vermillion definition as in older women or if the lips are so flat and small that more vermillion show is necessary in order to be able to then augment and fill the red lip as well.

  • errrr i love this

  • Dr. Naderi,

What can one expect to pay for this procedure and how often is the upkeep?

    Thank you!

  • @jlcarpenter77

In the beginning you may be injecting your lips every 3-4 months but with time many of my patients build up collagen from the injection in their lips and so they come in once or twice per year for the lip injections that can cost on average around $600-700. Some patients only need a half syringe ($350) while others may need 2 syringes ($1200-1400)

  • my top right side of my lip is slightly thinner than the left, would that change the procedure? or would my doctor just inject more in that specific area?

  • @NOURWHORE

Making asymmetric lips more symmetric is sometimes impossible non-surgically depending on the lip shape and width and length but improvements can be made using lip injection with Restylane.

  • I am so greatful 4 your words of wisdom & can not thank u enough Dr Naderi. I just hope that one day I find a Dr who is as compitent & understanding as u. Is it ok for me to use any left over product after my lip treatment in the tear through & the nasolabial folds?& is it vital tht the needle is changed or is it ok 2 keep the same needle?in the past i have had lumps in the lip after treatment so would it be exceptable for me to message my lips at home & up to how many days after treatment?Thnx

  • @zara66

You're welcome and thank you. Your plastic surgeon can use the filler and inject the tear trough and the lips or the smile lines. Some fillers can be used in multiple areas. Some cannot. I would change the needle so it is fresh, sharp and sterile for each site. With good injection technique the area should not be significantly lumpy.

  • Dr Naderi I really do think that u should re locate to London lol. Only kidding & being totally selfish.Thank you for your advise.Am I able to send u a Picture so that you can adise me further on how much filler u feel may be required and how a 0.8ml syringe should be split between the two lips?& is it true that there is a particular zone you can inject to lengthen the lips to make them mouth look wider? lastly is there another version of juverderm that last longer in the lips thn the ultra 3?

  • @zara66

Thanks. Pictures arent really as helpful as an examination and even then my advice is useless since your doctor may inject however he/she wishes. Also the European fillers are different from ours here in the U.S. We have Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus rather than by numbers. Simply make sure you find a good plastic surgeon with an artistic touch.

  • I live in London England & have visited many Dr's for Juverderm3 for the lips & I must say that I have never felt as comfortable as I did when I watched you injecting your patients. Its such a shame that you dont work in London, because if you did I wouldnt need to search for any other Dr for filler. Im going back soon for a 0.8ml injection & I wanted advise as to how much of this product should be injected in to both lips & which zones to get more voume in the upper lip & lengthen the mouth?

  • @zara66

Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. Each patient requires different amount of fillers and different zones. I have to examine you and have you smile and purse your lips and see you at rest before I determine which zones. Your personal taste is also important. Each patient has a different goal for her lips. The 0.8cc is usually all that is needed for the upper and lower lip. Some patients require less and others ask for more but most get one 0.8cc syringe twice a year

  • how long does it take for the bumps to go away? I had juvederm injected 4 days ago and I have bumps (resemble a cold sore) on all the areas that were injected. I've been trying to massage the areas but my lips feel so tender. the swelling hasn't gotten much better since day 1 and I'm a little self concious about being out in public

  • @sexyvg30

Hi. You should see the doctor who injected you to make sure you dont have a cold sore outbreak or an infection. Juvederm does not usually get lumpy or bumpy because its very soft and smooth but injections that are too superficial may results in bumps. 4 days is too early to judge because the bumps may actually be areas of swelling and deep bruising around the needle penetration sites. See your doctor just to make sure but if everything is OK things should look better soon.

  • @marcoroman101

I do have a significant number of male patients who come in for botox, dysport and fillers. Most of the time the fillers are for their smile lines or midface/cheek area. I reserve lip injections for men who are male models and can tolerate a certain "done" look because lip injections even when very natural, tend to be noticed in men as unnatural and I prefer not to inject the lips of most men but it can be done.

  • Im getting my lips done in a couple of weeks. They never mentioned using a dental block which I would prefer. Thanks for that tip! I will call them today and ask...

    angela

  • @Vixxxen2

My pleasure. Good luck. Make sure you are using a good experienced doctor.

  • it looks so painfull

  • @doulidoudou

Her lips are numb so while it looks painful, it is not.

  • @doulidoudou Why is it the bottom lip always hurts so much more than the top?

  • I have a question regarding the method of injection. The doctor I went to in my country told me he will inject the restylane along the white line and if I'm happy with the results and would like more fullness he will then see me a week after and inject into the red line. The way I understood it, this does not sound like it will look anything similar to what you did in this video (which is exactly the result that I want). So can you please clarify for me the method of injection. Thanks n advance!

  • @rashahamad

I'm not sure why the doctor did that. Each patients lips and each patients needs vary and so each injection will vary somewhat however the areas of the lips that may be injected are the Vermillion border between the white and red lip, the white lip, the red lip, the cupids bow area, the commissures. EAch of these areas have sub parts as well so that sometimes the injections are more central and other times the lip injections are more lateral. It just depends but it is an art.

  • Hmm what a hot doctor,

  • Thank you for the infos!

  • @renatawebalto

    my pleasure

  • hello!

I'd like to know if after the injections the lip sensibility changes. I mean after the effective results, after a month for example.

If I choose for Juvederm with lidocaine, is it not painfull at all?

    Thanks!

  • @renatawebalto

I have never had it myself so I cannot tell you if the sensitivity changes. I'm sure it does a bit but I have never heard a single patient complain of that. If you get the lip injection with restylane or juvederm without a dental block, it will still hurt because the lidocaine in the filler has not had time to work before hand but it is much more tolerable than the older fillers without any lidocaine.

  • ouch

  • @tima12tima

This was painless after the dental block she underwent to numb the lips. It looks much more that it is.

  • how much did this cost ?

and is it cheaper if you have just the top lip done?

    thx

  • @blah3479

Cost depends on the filler and the number of syringes needed. For most people its around $600-700. If all you need is a little then it may be around $350-$400. These are rough averages and prices vary based on location and who is doing the injection and if there are any special promotions, etc.

  • oh Gosh , this l0oks PainFull..! OUCH

  • @ladyvillarreal17

She had a dental block and her lips were totally numb and therefore it was completely painless for her.

  • @DrNaderi oh what does this exactly do?? "the ultra filler injections" ?

  • @ladyvillarreal17 Juvederm Ultra is a hyaluronic acid filler that plumps up the area its injected into such as lips or laugh lines or other wrinkles.

  • to be honest it looks very uneven

  • There is always initial swelling & micro-bruises & micro-hematomas making the lips look uneven or lumpy for 3-5 days. They start looking excellent after a week. That is why I tell my patients to not get lip filler injections if they have a major work obligation or social event coming up within a week of the procedure. Also, all people have facial asymmetry and many if not most patients have slight asymmetries of their lips and injections can initially worsen that before the edema resolves.

  • i am a dude, and i want bigger lips, but not super MAJOR difference.

    can this work for me?

  • @2dboy

There are plenty of men who do Botox and fillers. There are proportionately less men who do fillers to lips but men still do get lip injections and even lip implants. The amount of fullness is a matter of personal preference. I have many women who like VERY subtle lip augmentation and so I inject only a 1/2 syringe or less for them and others want more of a dramatic result. For men getting any cosmetic procedure, being conservative is important and male lip injection can be done.

  • at the end there is a nice melody, what its name?

  • @Ainigma13

I'm not sure what the name of the music is but thanks.

  • Good Lord, I mean I can't say that I am blessed with Full lips but I can't say I am cursed with thin lips. Mine are medium size. Of course I desire that bit more body to them. But $600 a syringe - I think I had a heart attack just looking at the price!

  • Thank god for that because I'm quinging at how painful that looks XD gonna get mine done before xmas woo :-P

  • does this hurt ?

  • @glamzytamzy

It hurts if your lips are not numb but you can have the lips numbed up so it doesnt hurt.

  • HOW MUCH iS tHiS??

  • @MACiASj1

Juvederm and Restylane range between $600-700 per syringe. Most people get only one syringe. Some request much fuller lips and may need 2 or 3 syringes but again the vast majority of people only need one syringe or even less and the cost would be $600-700 and its done about twice per year or so. Her lips were very small and she could have used more.

  • @DrNaderi Ok tHANkS(:

  • she still has small lips

  • @jessgtz22

We only did one syringe. She wanted a subtle result this time but I did 2 syringes to her lips a few months later and that gave a more dramatic result.

  • man she bleeds alot

  • @jessgtz22

The lips are VERY vascular and that is not really considered "bleeding alot" although each person is different and some bleed more than others.

  • Doesn't mixing with Lidocaine reduce the amount of Hyaluronic Acid ?

I mean, If you have a 24mg/ml HA, and you add 1ml of something else, you reduce it to 12mg/ml..

There's a new technique that allows no anesthesia and no bruising with only one point of entry, then the long needle slides under the skin (needle has a blunt tip. Its not sharp)

It's called Dermasculpt cannula. Google it !

  • @SheBarX

Mixing the lidocaine does not reduce the Hyaluronic acid because in this video, Lidocaine is not mixed with the filler. Lidocaine is used to numb the nerves. Lidocaine is not injected to the lips. Then after the lips are numb, Juvederm is injected. There is also a form of Juvederm called "XC" which has Lidocaine mixed in it. Even in that case the juvederm is not diluted because they add the lidocaine as a powder before the mixture so the same 24mg/ml HA is maintained.

  • @just001me

Yes the results are subtle with only one syringe. Thats why most people's fears that they may look "done" or "plastic" is not warranted if modest amounts are injected. More dramatic results are seen with more volume. We did her lips a few months later with 2 syringes and it has lasted 9 months now with great results. Everyone's face has asymmetry and and lips often have the same and while they can be improved, they are not always 100% symmetric at the end if they werent to begin

  • Dr. Naderi; My sister wants to get lip injections. She's 15. Is that safe?

  • @iswim1808

15 is much too young to be undergoing elective cosmetic procedures. She should be more focused on school and just being a 15 year old kid rather than her lips in my opinion. Starting too young will lead you down the wrong path. However, if she has birth defects or considerable asymmetry that can be fixed with cosmetic procedures and she is mentally mature then its OK.

  • @DrNaderi Thanks. I thought it was too young.

  • @iswim1808

Glad you agree. Take care and be safe.

  • Dr. Naderi; is (Zyderm1) used in the same way as Juvederm?? can't find any videos on it..

  • @batwings24

Zyderm and Cosmoderm are Animal and Human Collagen. Type I and II classify their concentration. They are both fine substances. Skin Allergy Testing is required with Zyderm but not with Cosmoderm. The injection technique is similar to Juvederm but the results last around 1-3 months. I used to use Zyderm and Cosmoderm heavily in my practice but I have not needed to use them in over 4 years mainly because they dont last very long.

  • Dr. Naderi; I saw most of your videos re: dermal fillers..I was looking for one video on (Zyderm1) but can't find it anywhere...Are you familiar with it?? Is it similar to Juvederm??

  • one side of her lips looks uneven!

  • @violettelovepunk

If you look closely at human faces you will see that practically no one has a 100% symmetric face or anything even close to that. One side of the face (including eyes, lips and nostrils) are usually higher or wider than the other side. While injections can make things more symmetric, they will not make the two sides 100% symmetric. In some patients, filling and adding volume will actually highlight their natural asymmetry. But the lips still look very good.

  • @DrNaderi also she is slightly side ways which gives another view

  • Dr. Naderi; is Juvederm constituted w/ sodium chloride like botox?? Or do u just withdraw the Juvederm straight into the syringe??

  • @batwings24

Good question! Botox and Dysport are reconstituted with Saline solution since they come in powder form. Juvederm and all of the other fillers in the U.S. come in individual sterile syringes ready to be injected.

  • That was fantastic, I wish you were an instructor at my cme conf. I recently was interested in adding this to my practice and the course demonstrated the vermilian boarder thus the lips looked sort of flattened in the pulp area. Do you ever do preceptor programs for non PS Md's?

  • @glennrunnerroad

Thank you. I am actually an Allergan Instructor so if you are interested, email me your contact info available on my website and I will ask my Allergan rep to set it up.

  • Great technique...many docs vary on this of course. Ive seen some bad ones... Wish I could have him do mine!

  • @ddiamond73

    Thank you

  • I have no idea why caucasians feel this is necessary.

  • @Writerchic1 it's horrible! I'm Caucasian & have fairly big lips. ugh it's so gross how deep the needle goes in. And it's so sad that these girls are so young and already getting cosmetic procedures. What are they going to do as they age? Just inject more and more and more? It's terrible! Why can't people just accept that we get wrinkles,it doesnt make you ugly, it just makes you an older version of you, which is natural and supposed to happen! Take care of yourself with nutrition, sunscreen etc

  • ohhhhhhhhh gosh i hate nedles

  • Thanks for your videos- I find your approach safe and not too OTT for unnatural look. I have added some of your techniques to my practice- Dr Philip- Belfast UK

  • @DrPhilipfacetech

Thank you very much for the note Doctor. I appreciate the feedback.

    Kindest regards,

  • how many CC is one syringe?

  • @raversman

0.8cc of Juvederm in each syringe.

  • is perlane safe filler to the lips to inject aswell? or only juvederm and restylane

  • Restylane and Juvederm ultra are the most commonly used. Perlane is similar to Juvederm Ultra Plus. Both have thicker consistency and last longer. They can be used in the lips but they do bruise more initially and if not injected well, can leave lumps.

  • It don't seem to hurt her, but im not sure, do someone knows if its hurt ?

  • I tried it before...they numb your face so no it doesn't hurt to much just a bit uncomfortable. Didn't like the results though

  • what is wrong with people these days.

  • haha I don't know...most of us are nutters really.

  • She has had a "dental block" before the procedure and her lips are numb. The numbness lasts for 1-2 hours. Some patients get lip injections with no numbing or just topical numbing creams or with ice. Now we have fillers like Juvederm Ultra XC and Restylane-L which have lidocaine in them and hurt less.

  • @DrNaderi

Oh . But can we ask for it or it's the doctor's choice ?

  • You certainly can ask for it but it depends on the doctor and if he/she knows how to do a dental block. Some dermatologists do not know how but most plastic surgeons should be able to.

  • @DrNaderi

Ok, thank you really much, i'll be able to do this now :)

  • how much will it cost 2 make lip Surgery?

  • Lip surgery is different that lip injection. This video demonstrates lip injection. The cost of injection depends on the actual filler and the amount of it needed. For this patient the cost was $650 and its something she has to do two or three times a year. Surgery using lip implants or lip advancement is much more costly with additional risks.

  • hi drnaderi, I have chelitis. Do you have any idea if it can be cure?

    thanks

  • Hi,

angular cheilitis is an inflammatory process at the corners of the mouth. Antifungal creams or other steroids or antibiotic treatments may be necessary. Often saliva pools in the area that is depressed making the problem worse. Restylane or Juvederm injected to the area can fill in the depression and prevent saliva pooling but it not be injected during an acute inflammatory process. I would suggest see an ENT surgeon soon and be properly evaluated. Good luck.

  • Ent surgeon for lips?

  • For evaluation of the Angular Cheilitis. Once thats evaluated and treated, he/she can refer you to a Facial Plastic surgeon or Plastic surgeon for possible Restylane or Juvederm injection to the corners of the mouth to fill the area up.

  • but i dont have angular cheilitis, I have exfoliative cheilitis. Can that be treated with these injections?

  • Oh! Thanks for clarifying. Thats a whole different issue and a whole different problem. I have not seen any studies or reports that lip injections with fillers improve exfoliative cheilitis. Juvederm does attract water to its own molecules so potentially I guess you could argue that it could hydrate the area from beneath and improve the exfoliative cheilitis. But I do not have any data to support that nor have I ever injected anyone for that purpose. See what a Dermatologist would say.

  • I have been to over 25 derms and all of them unfortunately seem clueless, tho they never let any expression come to their face which makes them look clueless. I think theres no proven treatment for exfoliative cheilitis in modern medicine. I think I ve to try something else.

Thanx none the less for the advise...

  • The thing doctors are the worst at is admitting they don't know something or admitting there is no solution. But sometimes there just are no "medical solutions." While I don't promote untested unproven holistic options, sometimes there are answers there but the risks are also high. For example I have seen holistic or organic "medical" providers prescribe high dose vitamin A which can be very dangerous. Just be careful and good luck.

  • how many days will it hurt?

    (l mean the lip)

  • The lip is sore for a few hours up to a few days but its not the kind of pain that you need to take medication for it at all.

  • Is this a sterile procedure?

  • Good question. By definition, no procedure around the mouth or nose is ever sterile. Its called a "clean sterile" or "clean" technique. This is because the mouth and nose can never be sterilized in the same way other body parts like the breasts can. With that said, the filler is sterile and comes in a sterile syringe. We do clean the area of injection with alcohol and use sterile needles. This would apply to even surgery on the lips and nose.

  • The right upper vermillian border looks fuller and higher than the left, is there no way to even that out?

  • You are absolutely correct. Most of that the immediate post injection edema variations. But 85% of people have significant facial asymetry and you see that with different lip and vermillion heights. To some extent this can be corrected with Fillers. Sometimes Botox is needed to "relax" the longer side of the lip. There are limitations though.

  • Do you have to use a dermal block when doing lips? Or can you just use numbing cream?

    thx

  • Hi,

Most patients ask for a dental block but a few will tolerate it with just topical numbing creams and even a lesser few ask for the lip injections with no numbing at all other than ice.

  • this may sound silly but I was wondering if its possible to have parts of your lip done? I had an accident as a kid and theres a dip in the center of my lip I would love to have filled

  • Not silly at all. I have patients who have asymmetric lips and I inject only parts of their lips to make their lips more symmetric and balanced.

  • I've just watched another video where a man had his nasal-labial folds done and suffered a massive infection which took a part of his nose. How common is this? The massaging worries me as the fingers go in the mouth....I would like this done someday when I have wrinkles but I want to look into every nook and cranny of it first :)

  • Infection and allergic reactions can occur with any filler but Juvederm and Restylane are probably the safest fillers. Its not as safe as "doing nothing" but its complication rate is 1:10,000 and they are usually very treatable issues. It would be interesting to find out more detail about the video you watched (was the injection an FDA approved filler? Was it done by a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon? Was the patient immunocompromised? etc.)

  • Yes. I have done up to 3 syringes into the lips of tall models who can pull it off without looking "done." But I would recommend going slow and adding to it over time.

  • is it very expensive? I have a lip looks like pigs. So want to get injection and make looks normal. please comment me

  • Hi,

Im not sure what pig's lips look like but this procedure's cost depends on what filler you choose and how much of it you need. Most patients choose Restylane or Juvederm with a dental block to numb the lips first. If all you need is one syringe then the cost would be $650 and you have to do it at least twice a year to maintain the results.
