What I love about this song is that even though it talks about loss it also conveys a sense of peace, the type of peace you find after a long fought war is over. Prince is a musical genius but he's also an expert of the human feelings. I also love the little video the uploader has created. The child-like quality of the looped images are haunting and very meaningful from the point of view of someone who's mourning. I hope that's how we feel when we die :))

I discovered this song in a book when I was in holidays. There was an extract and I believed thats it was a poem. Can't agree this is Prince "greatest song", not by a long shot! But it is probably his best melancholy and emotional evoking work. Reminds me of those that passed that I actually cared about, probably why I don't listen to this song much. I hold them close even in death. Also reminds me of Condition of the Heart off of Around the World in a Day album. Good song nonetheless.
@tinapbutler I concur that, Around The World, is a fave of mine as well and Condition of the Hearts is eerily beautiful as it is underrated as an emotional evoking song. I still favor the smorgasbord of sounds and dynamism of Sign O' the Times, though. Listening to "You Got That Look" right now, lol.

When I couldn't stand the pain of infection and destruction my body was going through I would have this song played for me. It always reminded me no matter how badly I was doing at least I was still here, and others weren't. This is one of my top Prince songs and it ALWAYS makes me cry. UTCM is my favorite Prince movie. I am SO glad he exists. And it snowed here this past April!! ;p

my fiance and i broke up on April 19 in Oklahoma on the exact day the murrah building was destroyed. He left at 6 am, then the rest of the world fell apart. I was listening to this song and solo and i hate you by prince. I remember back to that day every time I listen to this song. I still love that man even after 15 years. and still single cuz i can't love any one else like that. and it did snow in April this year. and I reminisced on this song.

My brother died on April 30th, 2000 from his own civil war with alcoholism. Thank you Prince for having written this beautifully haunting song to remember him with. I knew when I first heard it in 'under the cherry moon', it would mean something so much more to me one day..

Saw Prince do this live in a duet with Layla Hatthaway on the Welcome 2 America Tour and one momment into the song the whole stadium got silent and i screamed out I LUV U!!!!! That was a wonderful momment!!!!!

Can't agree this is Prince "greatest song", not by a long shot! But it is probably his best melancholy and emotional evoking work. Reminds me of those that passed that I actually cared about, probably why I don't listen to this song much. I hold them close even in death. Also reminds me of Condition of the Heart off of Around the World in a Day album. Good song nonetheless.

@tinapbutler I concur that, Around The World, is a fave of mine as well and Condition of the Hearts is eerily beautiful as it is underrated as an emotional evoking song. I still favor the smorgasbord of sounds and dynamism of Sign O' the Times, though. Listening to "You Got That Look" right now, lol.

Love this song. ever since i was 14. but to the people who want it played at their funerals.. please do what i have done.. dont put your body in the ground, donate it to a training hospital. That way some new doctors can get some training. Save lives!
