The combat system changed very greatly between 1.8 and previous versions of MC. For one, I don't mind charging at a skeleton "guns a blazin'" as long as I have food to keep my hunger bar up.

Also while this is a big cave room the cave system isn't big at all. I've explored cave systems that took real life days just to light up fully and explore every branch. And since i do mostly play underground, I can explore much faster.

zero forward progress because of zero combat skills.

I mean, come on, this is not Crysis. Just wield the sword, run towards the skel while strafing sideways and whack that bone bag. This way you get almost no damage and the enemy is down. With the bow do the same approach but spam arrows like crazy. By being overly cautious and attacking from weird angles it only makes it worse.

And if you want to be real sneaky, use blocks to block the enemies in.

It's funny, whenever I turn around and there's a mob behind me, and it growls or hisses or shoots an arrow, my hand jerks forward, and I lose orientation with my surroundings. Mobs that get the drop on me usually end up going through with the assassination.

Best way to survive in caverns: assume there is lava behind EVERYTHING you dig.

Never take a skeleton from above. The best strategy to take them out is to attack the head on, on level ground, and strafe to avoid their arrows. You keep putting yourself in positions where you give them the advantage, like just on top of ledges or right around corners.

It might seem reckless but honesty you can pretty much waste skeletons by just running up to them and slashing with a diamond sword. As long as you're strafing they're not likely to hit you as you approach either.

Wow quite the cave adventure. We all have our own foe that is most difficult to handle. But I agree with snailzillascreator that you have to keep moving. Also its best to fight them in open areas as its so easy for them to pop up or around a corner to get a shot off on you. But most of all what suits me best in killing them with a sword is to orbit in a circle around them. When you get close enough you can hit, dodge and repeat. Best of luck to you. ^.^

My very first world had a large hole in the ground very close to the mountainside I'd made home. Exploration revealed the deepest and most convoluted cave system that I've still yet to see topped. I named it 'China Pit' after the mine in a Stephen King novel, because it's an absolute nightmare. Deep sheer shafts with lava in the bottom, caverns with walls like swiss cheese that mobs just spew out of, tunnels that intertwine and meet in large chambers. It's horrible, yet I can't stay away...

The cavern on my world is inside a mountain, and it's so tall the dirt is growing grass! Farm animals spawn in it quite often.

Just circle the skeletons - they only aim where you were and not where you're going, so you can close in on them and swing your diamond sword at them.

Also with creepers, just charge at them, you can kill them with two swings of your diamond sword (3 with Iron swords, 4 with stone swords, and 5 with wood) - so you should be able to fit in a 2nd swing at the creeper well before it explodes. Provided your aim is decent of course.

I like how you play with so much regard to your survival though :D

You should always carry two buckets with you, or three if you collect lava. But if you always have one bucket if lava and one bucket of water you can use the lava to take out monsters when behind cover and to eliminate useless items, and the water to cool yourself off if you catch fire and cover over lava pools. By the way, you don't want to know how immensely huge the cave systems in my server are... I swear, everywhere you dig, you'll eventually find a cave that somehow connects into the single same system. Spent hours there fighting off all kinds of creatures, and they're still coming from everywhere, even in long established parts of the caves.

Bind quick keys? No need! You can press 1 to 9 to select slots 1 to 9 in your inventory, so always putting the same things in those slots will get you accustomed to quickly pressing 1 when you need a sword, etcetera.

Its good to know you read your comments. Unlike Seananners, you have a mission and dont try going into a skeleton dungeon. Keep up the good work! For the next few videos, you should do something unique for each segment of your travel. So it dosent get boring as you travel.

I'd say the only thing that really annoys me in these videos is that you have a tendency to just abandon your torches. I'm a bit OCD about making sure to pick up EVERY torch I can before leaving/sealing off an area, lol.

I'd voted against going into the cavern. I'm glad you've resurfaced. Everytime I saw a monster coming at you I shouted "Run Kurt RUN!!"

I'm going to recommend that you craft many more arrows and keep how many you have in your heads up display. And don't do dangerous stuff like that again.

I find it funny how Minecraft can excite me more than most action/horror games.
