Thanks for posting this! Such a great album, so it's really nice to see the processes they took to develop the song structure. I love that they focus on every aspect of the album...the music, the artwork, the musical moods and themes. They are my favorite band. Even if you don't like their music, you have to at least appreciate the dedication they put in their art.
Its weird I spent years listening to neurosis, but never knew that every band that I listened to was listening to them secretly. They have to be the most influential band in my world right now. I couldn't imagine life without them now.
Neurosis was and is and probably will be one of my favorite bands for years to come. They are so connected, organic, and primal. It's like looking at a beautiful landscape or a violent storm.
A very different and awe inspiring sound these guys play but totally epic...If u live by moutains go up the moutaind and park and play this album with your windows down and the music turned low but high enough to understand and smoke weed...I guarentee you will feel the raw emotion they put into making this album...It absolutly amazing and inspiring...thumbs up if you agree
Definitly art as it's finset! I would say Neurosis is major aquired taste since mainstream people will never get them or even scratch the surface of the depth of there work.
"We are the ones recording it, we are the ones doing the artwork and doing all the hard work to promoting it and everything. That's craftsmanship. That's true art." -- Steve Von Till

cant believe out of all the best albums by them you named, noone named souls at zero....yes they were just coming out of there punk stages...but holy shit!!!!this album is amazing.
i learned that the guitarist is a big fan of metal in the newest issue of guitar world (he was even wearing a mastodon t shirt) so the i looked up FOB on wikipedia and found out they used to be a hardcore punk band. and if you go to the guitarists article it talks about how he met the singer and they both liked neurosis!
youll never beleive this but the singer and lead guitarist for fall out boy are big fans of neurosis! im fuckin serious! that blew my mind when i learned that!
Yea it needs to be emphasized that Mastodon sounds like Neurosis in parts, not the other way around. Neurosis have been around since 1985. Mastodon sounds like a lot of bands but many don't realize this because these bands aren't that well known.
@muffinsNsausage Scott Kelly from Neurosis was guest in Crack The Skye,Crystall Scul and a part of Aqua Dementia.I suggest u to search crack the skye :)
@muffinsNsausage well the comment wasnt reffering to crack the skye though. Neurosis is one of Mastodon's biggest influences. Hell it might even be safe to say that maybe Neurosis IS their biggest influence. Without Neurosis... Mastodon probally wouldn't sound anything like they do now... And without Neurosis.... Music would be different.... They influence so many bands it'd be hard to find them all.... Hell they probally influence bands that dont even know who they are...
STFU!!! Get on with the music. Hate to be country-ist, but this is a US thing that we keep getting over here in the UK now, & it's shit!!! Nobody's interested. Geez what happened you to UK people, you use to be so tough minded, now I see alot of people bitch and making yourselves sound nothing better than most rich people in america. You think your so much different but your no better than our worst. have a problem with something? Deal with and stop cryin about it, does this promotion in this video end the whole fucking universe? NO, shut your mouth and watch the vid or don't I really don't care.
are you under the assumption that americans as a whole are rich? thats fuckin mind blowing, the class lines here are well defined and ive been lookin up at the poverty line for 22 years now. Dont give yourselves to much credit
i'm not gonna sit here and shit on electric wizard, but there is NO WAY they're heavier than neurosis, man. you throw on a neurosis record and it's not just a heaviness of sound, but this heaviness of emotion. to me, it's like this perfect weight that is oppressive and uplifting. and ultimately the thing that really sets them apart is that they really are painting with more colors than a band like electric wizard.
with as huge of a fan as i am of their music, i never give enough time to their lyrics...in fact they're my favorite next to a few others though they might surpass those bands/artists. so far, what i've gathered about them, i have a list of literary figures i've come to suspect as possible influences in their lives and music: jack london (an obvious one), nietzsche, aleister crowley, max stirner, anton lavey(?), and any other possible suspects who embrace nature, willpower, "egoism", and might.
I have through silver in blood and I'am wondering what would be the best album to buy next, I want the same heavy doomyness, and not there newer progressive sound????????
I have similar taste...unfortunately the band has repeatedly disowned Through Silver in Blood due to its "sludgey" sound. All subsequent Neurosis albums have a tinny, airy sound. Believe me, I bought them all. They love Steve Albini and all their albums strive toward that sterile, airless Albini sound.
This may sound stupid, but as a fan of extreme and atmospheric music, I am just now learning the beauty and majesty Neurosis brings to the world..and I admit, I feel like I have been missing out on something amazing over the years.
That stupid fucking Canuck kid made a total ass of himself. If he were that age in 1998 he would be trashing Through Silver in Blood and saying Korn is real metal.
neurosis is a complete understanding of life in itself. They are what we inhale as our 24 hour clock is refurbished every single day is another amazing piece of our existance. So,....on that thought, live another day and wait for that sun that never sets. disconnect.
Neurosis is connected in every way to the occult, which is quite obvious. So they are a part of that tradition which has been blurred out and occulted by the catholic church, among some other bands that are popular in the undertow today. So I wouldn't say they are a complete understanding of life, I'd say they are definitely a part of a complete understanding though. It is a great band.
HAIL NEUROSIS. I have chills as I type this. There is no band I've EVER seen live that is as POWERFUL, as DAMAGING, as Neurosis. I always try to post up right in front of Scott so his voice and guitar can just totally crush me.Long live Neurosis and the fans that know the secret...
I'm pretty certain that the guy on the phone is Scott Von Till. But.... who really cares, I can't believe how amazing this band is. I'd love to be in any sort of band where people hear a Neurosis influence.

not to sound cliche, but the music itself is a drug. bands like Neurosis, ISIS, God is an Astronaut, etc totally just put me in this state of trance that's pretty hard to break. it's like psilocybin for however long the record is on.
Neurosis is completely something else, through their music they manage to exprese every emotion, Given to the rising is awsome, the concept of the album...the animal statues are perfect for the ambient this album creates...
i am so glad that mainstream media stays away from neurosis...their integrity is amazing and when you lisen to them you can HEAR their souls coming through them....channelling makes them the best!
I can't believe they've managed to make every album better than the last. Neurosis are by far one of the most talented metal bands to ever have existed.
Yes, that sound. Massive. Though they do not possess the combination of imagination and pure innovative musical skill like the incomparable Meshuggah, I do like them.
One of the best bands of all time...elemental and heavy.
Enemy of the sun, souls at zero, a sun that never sets, through silver in blood, sovereign...got that lot but need MORE. The art and sonics complement each other so well. STILL not seen em live...gutted.
I'm tempted to say it's their best album ever... i'd have to choose between A Sun That Never Sets and this one... its just the most absolutely brilliant source of apocaliptic destruction ever made...
Does anyone have the lyrics to this album?
If anyone could put them on the internet it would be great!

As far as I'm concerned, there are no band's that can truly be compared to Neurosis.
All others are poor imitations.

I was prepared to be disappointed by "Given To The Rising" but my god it's fucking amazing. This could seriously be album of the year.

Weed + Neurosis = Full Effect

not to sound cliche, but the music itself is a drug. bands like Neurosis, ISIS, God is an Astronaut, etc totally just put me in this state of trance that's pretty hard to break. it's like psilocybin for however long the record is on.

Music is indeed a drug.. A drug that can be enhanced by listening to it when under the influence of the drug, cannabis! :D

Neurosis is completely something else, through their music they manage to exprese every emotion, Given to the rising is awsome, the concept of the album...the animal statues are perfect for the ambient this album creates...

i am so glad that mainstream media stays away from neurosis...their integrity is amazing and when you lisen to them you can HEAR their souls coming through them....channelling makes them the best!
breigle1977 4 years ago
I can't believe they've managed to make every album better than the last. Neurosis are by far one of the most talented metal bands to ever have existed.

Yes, that sound. Massive. Though they do not possess the combination of imagination and pure innovative musical skill like the incomparable Meshuggah, I do like them.

people, if you like Neurosis go buy their albums right now ! The artwork is as brillant as their music !!
Great band really :)

One of the best bands of all time...elemental and heavy.
Enemy of the sun, souls at zero, a sun that never sets, through silver in blood, sovereign...got that lot but need MORE. The art and sonics complement each other so well. STILL not seen em live...gutted.

Now you know...

I'm tempted to say it's their best album ever... i'd have to choose between A Sun That Never Sets and this one... its just the most absolutely brilliant source of apocaliptic destruction ever made...
Does anyone have the lyrics to this album?
If anyone could put them on the internet it would be great!
