I feel like this all the time when trying to have a face to face conversation with somebody and they are to busy texting, or answering their cell, or playing with their iPhone... their device is more important than what is around them, how sad.
This isn't the first time Bradbury predicted things to correctly. In Fahrenheit 451 he predicted a future where we had TVs we could hang on the wall, music devices small enough to fit in the ear, and people would be obsessed with electronic "Interactive stories"!
This short story imparts an serious message that most people today are oblivious to. So few people today know what deep thought and solitude are and most don't want to know because they would rather remain in a near permanent state of distraction from themselves or their problems.
Exactly. Looking back you can see that kind of thing happening extensively over the past 10 years with the rise of the new gadget culture. Young people being born into it will have a slim chance of ever learning the importance of "simply tuning out".
@zonetuke The idea of solitude and silence is part of my Christian beliefs, and alot of other religions too, employ meditation and simplicity in their beliefs. But, yeah, you're right, I think It's almost a lost art.
Nice adaption of one of my favorite Bradbury stories, wasn't it written in the 50s?!?

This episode really has predicted what cell phones have done to our society back in the late 80s.

They seem to have predicted My Space and the Internet back here in 1985.

@Vondur humanity is developing new, superior ways of finding solitude. tuning out is never a good thing.

@Vondur Funny thing is Bradbury wrote this in the 50's I think.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to enjoy some silence. ^.^
