  • I remember hearing this selection when I was a kid. Nobody (not even Yvonne Fair) can touch Gladys.

  • No comparsion, Yvonne Fair's version will always reign supreme...

  • LORDY!

    SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!!

    FANTASTIC SONG!

WONDER HOW MANY COULD PLAY THIS SONG FOR THEIR OWN LIFE!

  • brilliant..the might of gladys knight and the pips...

  • Oh my Goodness! This was my song back in the day. I haven't heard this in a long, long time.

  • 1968 from the LP Feeling Bluesy

  • Thank you for posting this classic. Gladys' vocal range trascends generations!! You "feel" her emotions in her songs and they along with the songs she sings become one with you. That goes for Gladys Knight & the Pips and for Gladys alone.

  • Best when synced by Dawn French in The Vicar of Dibley!

  • The opening of the song is a scene from Four Weddings and a Funeral (when Carrie marries Hamish).

  • Ha it's freakin awesome .

  • adeva's version is a house mix and flawless too!

  • The opening is from a movie.....The movie is "Weddings and A Funeral".......

  • Oh so touching,Se makes you feel oh so good....T

  • Still Chills!!! Platinum!!!

  • The audio clip from the wedding is from Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The song is a great motown tune redone here by Gladys Knight

  • what a find!!!

  • I love this song. How embarrassing.

  • I think Yvonne Fair's version of "It Should Of Been Me" is the best and Jayne Edward's version of "It Should Have Been Me" is a close second.

  • @gayboylaca I agree.

  • What's the opening of this song about? Is it from a movie?

  • Umm, im not sure.

  • From the Vicar of Dibley Christmas special. There is s clip on you tube. It's cute

  • @ZebFAN00 The movie is "4 Weddings and a Funeral"

  • @ZebFAN00 It is from the UK BBC TV comedy The Vicar of Dibley. Dawn French played the Vicar and the song was featured in the Christmas Day 2006 episode of the show. One of the best comedies on British TV.

Here's the YT video from the Vicar of Dibley with the original BBC transcript dubbed over with Yvonne Fairs version of the song

  • @ZebFAN00 - Sounds like a clip from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" when Carrie marries Hamish.

  • @ZebFAN00 YES! I think I recognize it from "Four Weddings and a Funeral."

  • It is from one of the weddings, in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

  • @ZebFAN00 It's from "Four Weddings and a Funeral"

  • @ZebFAN00 quatro casamentos e um funeral.

  • sorry to tell you folks but Gladys Knight was not the original singer of this song. It was first recorded by Kim Weston and then subsequently beefed up by Yvonne Fair. Having said that, I would not take anything away from Kim Weston's version. Gladys Knight, although a fantastic singer, does not even get close to the other two versions.

  • @Jimmycrackenbush

I agree 100%, if someone would be so kind as to put on the KW version..... please...;-)

  • I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A Good Presbytarian Scotish Minister There

  • Gladys was the original singer of this in the sixties and Yvonne covered it in the seventies. Both brilliant.

  • story of my life lol

  • i think yvonne did it 1st

  • does anybody know if gladys knight was the original singer of this track or was it yvonne fair?

  • Yvonne Fair was the original singer yes, i prefare the original myself

  • Did you really work the cords on this, it seem 4 beats to the bar. but I do like the rythm section on this by Glady Knight

  • "All I Need Is Time" is another amazing song by Gladys. I can't find it on youtube tho :(

  • I have a slightly different version of this song with less backing vocals, her voice gives me goosebumps.. simply awesome. Incredible singer!

  • I saw Gladys Knight & the Pips twice, great shows. I knew this song first from the early 80s version by Jayne Edwards. But think I had this on Gladys Knight's "Anthology" album (long gone).

  • all you can say is wow

  • This is GOLD!!!

  • This is a great post. Thanks for sharing.

  • Gladys Knight and the Pips...my first concert in 1966 at the Teen Scene on McKnight Rd. Pgh. Pa. Love ya Baby!

  • I like Gladys but I prefer the Yvonne Fair version.

  • good for you im not mad at you and i am not a hater.......

  • I agree. Yvonne sounds more insistant and heartbroken than Gladys.

  • @1angel23 This is the original and Yvonne Fairs was a cover. I like both but I must agree I have a preference for Yvonne Fairs version. Either way still an all time classic from1976

  • @1angel23 I do too , but how can you put down Motown !

  • @Medic83301 You can't put it down at all. So many classics :-)
