Unfortunately the Huaptmann wasn't made until the FedComm civil war, almost 12 years after the Turrkiad Truce. So at this point the Thug, Dragon, Victor, Awesome, and Atlas were the pest choices from what the games gave you.
The Lyran Commonwealth was supposedly formed in the year 2341 and disbanded in 3056 to join the Federated Commonwealth. formed by the merger of the Tamar Pact, the Alliance of Donegal, and the Federation of Skye. The original capital of the Lyran Commonwealth was Arcturus, but the throne was transferred to Tharkad in 2406, where it has remained ever since. The Lyran Commonwealth was ruled for most of its history by House Steiner.
try reading some comments, that was pointed out by another astute fan 2 years ago when this was first posted. Besides this is meant to be a generic overview, not an in-depth expose like your reply becomes.... ^^_
Not a bad intro to the Clans. You've pretty much covered the basics on how they came into power, but now they have to struggle with their inner turmoils. One clan will dare challenge the very belief of the Clan Society as a whole.
Yeah I hate how Comstar threw the Clans back then went insane and turned into the Word of Blake nutcases. And I played Mechwarrior Dark Age a couple years back cause it was fun but I hated the story line so bad. The Clan invasions were sooooo tight. They should've made movies on Battletech. Just like in Star Wars.
Us fans need to tell Microshaft to kick their asses in gear. There's lots of us Battletech fans out there. We just aren't seen cause we don't have merchandise like Halo. BUT they'd probably fuck it up like they do everything. They need to do the movies EXACTLY or very similar to the books.
Wizkids blows. Everything they do is strictly for profit. I knew some guys who played 40k and they keep changing the rules every 6 months so I was told and kept making certain pieces of the game useless which forced them to buy more and more figs. I was pretty good at Dark Age but then the rules changed to the point where the game was completely messed up. Michael is the best author I can think of to write a script.
@recniabsal I always found his books to be dry and too in-depth to keep reading past 100 pages. Robert Thurston, Blaine Lee Pardoe and Jim Long were/are excellent (particularly Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy, Main Event and DRT)
@recniabsal Isn't that the aim of every company, to make as much profit from something as they can?
As for Michael being the best author... well, that's your choice, but personally, he is drier than a sahara desert rock. Thurston was more fluid and did the series more justice
Although I haven't read all the books I think this is a good idea. Even "Shrapnel" would make the basis of good stories to base a solid script on. I feel that like many people without "the heart" or background in the game would simply make it a formulaic commercial venture.
its about 1/3rd done, life, school, and my game project have gotten in the way. however, i should have time to work on it over winter break which is soon. There's a lot of source material to cover :3
I love the video... cant stand the clans.. I thought they were the WORST thing that happened to the game.. they ended FASA. And battletech as we knew it. Played since 1984 WELL before the clans.
I favor the Clans because so few people can play a Trueborn well. Also, in the Clans, if somebody is going to do you wrong you'll see it coming. No matter what you almost always have a chanse to do something about it or, if you can't stop it, then contest it after it's been done to you. Just ask Aiden and Joanna.
ah but thats not true to life, in life there will be people and events that happen that you have no chance of contending or stopping, ergo the principles that nicholas based based his society on are flawed and not true to the Star League
I agree with the clan argument alright but when I started Mechwarrior pen and paper I played a clan character 'cause I'd never played an asshole character before :-) Alright now in character: We didn't butcher His vision, we ARE his vision. OOC
For some odd reason I've always loved the Shadow Hawk

That was spectacular, as to find a way to explain to someone the back ground of battletech...........that would be damn near perfect. I am glad to see others keep the dream alive.
Great video. One small correction, House Steiner was known as the Lyran Commonwealth before the merger. When Katherine Steiner broke her part away from the Federated Commonwealth, she renamed it the Lyran Alliance.
theres only so much i can cram into 10 min as well as this is a more generic overview of BattleTech, not a fanatical analysis (although if i had the time i would do so)
This is an awesome history of the BattleTech universe. Are you going to follow the history all the way into the Dark Age era? And you skipped the whole thing about how the Terran Hegemony was once the greatest power in the universe and the Mackie and the battle of Styx.
Worse, much worse than that. For example, the Draconis Combine wiped out somewhere between 50-90 million people in the Kentares Massacre during the 1st Succession War. I have to imagine that through the entire 250 years of Succession Wars you're talking about several billion casualties total. At least.

Its kind of a complicated situation, but the short version is "WOB was part of the Second Star League and the Dragoons weren't, so everyone else looked the other way"
davebaughman 4 years ago
Not so much. It was more the shock factor than anything. WOB was extending protection to various planets in the Chaos March and were threatening to become a potential pain in the ass. The Dragoons tried to counter this by doing the same thing, but cheaper I think. The Highlanders were with them on this until all of their Elders "mysteriously" died AT THE SAME TIME. They recalled ALL of their forces back to Northwind to figure out what to do.
GrayFox436 4 years ago
Then the Dragoon's city got razed by rogue mercs and they went on a warpath. WOB retaleated by invading outreach. The Dragoons got betrayed twice, once before and during the battle for Outreach, and STILL kicked the Woblie's asses. So, seeing that they were going to loose, they pulled back and glassed the rest of the Dragoons. The survivors, what little there were, retreated to Arc Royal.
GrayFox436 4 years ago
The reason the rest of the Inner Sphere did nothing was because, at the (I think) final meeting before the Star League was officially disbanded, the WOB showed up in New Avalon, Tharkad, Northwind, and a number of other important systems, and blockaded them. Tharkad got nuked, too, along with a number of other notable places. It threw the entire Inner Sphere into chaos. Luna base had a LOT of mothballed Star League era warships.
