  • whait than in mech assult what werer the dragoons?

    |

  • @xDragonOfDarknesx Wolves Dragoons? a mercenary company usually employed by Davion and Steiner , but also other factions

  • wait, wasnt Davion and Steiner one house? the Federated Commonwalth or how ever is writen.

  • @FDGod233Productions yes, but at this moment in the timeline they were separate political entities.

  • whats the music at the begining?

  • @c4167 'BigFoot' by Frank Klepacki, from the Command and Conquer: Red Alert soundtrack

  • @c4167 'Big foot' by Frank Klepacki. Off of the Red Alert 1 soundtrack from said game by WestWood Studios.

  • Again...Nicely done!

Many kudos for a job well done, Mortarion12.

  • a battletech movie with transformers-grade CGI would be the most awesome thing to happen to battletech ever

  • If there would be a big Battletech movie, I'm sure it'd have to be as epic as the LOTR and original Star Wars trilogies.

  • @vgmaster9 oh how I wish; with an awesome intro like LotR

  • Excellent!

  • I don't care what anybody says. The telsa II pod game was years ahead of it's time

  • hey where do I know the Music from??? Battlefield 2142 or Freelancer?

  • this music is off a command and conquer piece. red alert 1 probably.

    (at the start)

as for the rest, i dont know

  • just watch the credits section (I put that section in for a reason ya know ^^_)

  • Hello Mortarion12

I think you made nice video. I am not as big fun as you guys, but I would put a Hauptmann instead of an Atlas to Steiner's part of the video.

  • Unfortunately the Huaptmann wasn't made until the FedComm civil war, almost 12 years after the Turrkiad Truce. So at this point the Thug, Dragon, Victor, Awesome, and Atlas were the pest choices from what the games gave you.

  • This is just excellent. An outstanding work by a talented young man.

  • very well done.

  • I think someone needs to do a little research.

The Lyran Commonwealth was supposedly formed in the year 2341 and disbanded in 3056 to join the Federated Commonwealth. formed by the merger of the Tamar Pact, the Alliance of Donegal, and the Federation of Skye. The original capital of the Lyran Commonwealth was Arcturus, but the throne was transferred to Tharkad in 2406, where it has remained ever since. The Lyran Commonwealth was ruled for most of its history by House Steiner.

  • try reading some comments, that was pointed out by another astute fan 2 years ago when this was first posted. Besides this is meant to be a generic overview, not an in-depth expose like your reply becomes.... ^^_

  • Good work

  • DOUGRAM should of been used for a BATTLETECH TV series since a lot of the Mecha was from it.

  • eh, maybe back in the day, there are so many new designs from Battletech that are quite enough to distance the franchise from Dougram

  • This is freaking AWESOME!

  • Really nice. With your permition, I'd like to use this vid as a story-intro for an RPG I'm currently playing with my mates.

  • go for it! this was video was made for that very thing! introducing the universe! ^^_

  • Nice. When I frist it I thought it may be a history of the game itself. This is very nice, I can't wait to see the rest.

  • i think i have a link to the 2nd volume there, if not just check my profile.

  • Not bad, not bad. I like the video. What music is it in the background?

But you made a small error: The "Lyran Alliance" was called "Lyran Commonwealth" in the time between 2500 - 3025, which is covered by your video!

  • I know i know! someone pointed it out and I lost the original moviemaker file to go back and change it :|

as for the music in the background, check the credits. :3

  • This is a fantastic video! Where did you get the old IS map (pre-Clan invasion)? I haven't seen one of those since 1991 at least!

It's too bad they never had a working model of a Mackie in any of the games. Would have been cool to put up there as the "First Mech" kinda thing.

    Excellent job! :)

  • EXCELLENT!

  • thanks!

    ^^_

  • very good work

    long live house steiner

  • hey great job!

whens the second vid comin out?

  • lol, already is, check the info section for this vid

  • Not a bad intro to the Clans. You've pretty much covered the basics on how they came into power, but now they have to struggle with their inner turmoils. One clan will dare challenge the very belief of the Clan Society as a whole.

  • Why did FASA have to go under?! Wizkids has utterly destroyed Battletech/Battletech universe.

  • Yeah I hate how Comstar threw the Clans back then went insane and turned into the Word of Blake nutcases. And I played Mechwarrior Dark Age a couple years back cause it was fun but I hated the story line so bad. The Clan invasions were sooooo tight. They should've made movies on Battletech. Just like in Star Wars.

  • They wrote up the script but no one has touched it yet, like the Halo movie.

  • Us fans need to tell Microshaft to kick their asses in gear. There's lots of us Battletech fans out there. We just aren't seen cause we don't have merchandise like Halo. BUT they'd probably fuck it up like they do everything. They need to do the movies EXACTLY or very similar to the books.

  • actually, they should have Michael Stockpole or Blaine Pardoe write the script.

that would be awesome. Also, Microsoft no longer owns Mechwarrior, Wizkids and Smith and Tinker own it.

  • Wizkids blows. Everything they do is strictly for profit. I knew some guys who played 40k and they keep changing the rules every 6 months so I was told and kept making certain pieces of the game useless which forced them to buy more and more figs. I was pretty good at Dark Age but then the rules changed to the point where the game was completely messed up. Michael is the best author I can think of to write a script.

  • I got into CBT this past spring and absolutely love it! plus the rules and figures dont change for a couple years ^^_ awesome stuff

  • @recniabsal I always found his books to be dry and too in-depth to keep reading past 100 pages. Robert Thurston, Blaine Lee Pardoe and Jim Long were/are excellent (particularly Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy, Main Event and DRT)

  • @recniabsal Isn't that the aim of every company, to make as much profit from something as they can?

As for Michael being the best author... well, that's your choice, but personally, he is drier than a sahara desert rock. Thurston was more fluid and did the series more justice

  • Although I haven't read all the books I think this is a good idea. Even "Shrapnel" would make the basis of good stories to base a solid script on. I feel that like many people without "the heart" or background in the game would simply make it a formulaic commercial venture.

  • Sorry forgot to write which book(s) would you base the first Battletech movie on and why?

  • Lethal Heritage. Start with the Clan invasions. That was the coolest era of Battletech.

  • GO FEDSUNS!

  • Command and Conquer music at the beginning. :D

  • yeah it's cool!! What's the name of the c&c song?

  • I think it's name is "Big Foot" From Command and Conquer: Red Alert. (The first one)

  • check the credits

but the CnC songs involved are

'Big Foot' for the intro and 'Trenches' for the credits both from CnC:Red Alert

  • want to continue the history? ISWars dot com.

    MW MMO

    Major ColdDawg

    House Davion AFFS

    Grim Determination

  • what history? wizkids has destroyed almost everything... :P

    ^_^

  • not destroyed, just.....severely modified. :P

  • Great video, good job!

  • Nice it was enjoyable (-=p

  • thank you very much

  • wow, over 5,000 views! thanks guys! ^_^

  • Very good, exellent music.

  • Lol Bigfoot from Red Alert ?

  • well, these mechs do have big feet! :3

  • "for the clans, sibkin!"..."seyla"

  • Great vid! its awesome. I actually learned a lot from this. :]

  • thanks! i hope you did, that was my aim! ^_^

  • I have been waiting months for Volume II, are you making one?

  • its about 1/3rd done, life, school, and my game project have gotten in the way. however, i should have time to work on it over winter break which is soon. There's a lot of source material to cover :3

  • Very well, sounds good.

  • I love the video... cant stand the clans.. I thought they were the WORST thing that happened to the game.. they ended FASA. And battletech as we knew it. Played since 1984 WELL before the clans.

  • I favor the Clans because so few people can play a Trueborn well. Also, in the Clans, if somebody is going to do you wrong you'll see it coming. No matter what you almost always have a chanse to do something about it or, if you can't stop it, then contest it after it's been done to you. Just ask Aiden and Joanna.

  • ah but thats not true to life, in life there will be people and events that happen that you have no chance of contending or stopping, ergo the principles that nicholas based based his society on are flawed and not true to the Star League

  • woho,3050,The return of Kerensky BOO YEAH!!!

  • kerensky my atlas's giant behind!

    you silly clanners :P

  • Let me guess, you're a Kuritan. Probably supported Amaris.... The clans are the light and the way.

Okay out of character now. What's your 'Mech of choice?

  • actually im an Irregular, hated Amaris for what he did and hate the clans even more for butchering Aleksandr Kerensky's vision

mech of choice is usually a centurion

  • I agree with the clan argument alright but when I started Mechwarrior pen and paper I played a clan character 'cause I'd never played an asshole character before :-) Alright now in character: We didn't butcher His vision, we ARE his vision. OOC

For some odd reason I've always loved the Shadow Hawk

  • well after BT fans, its been 5 months since this video came out, and i have an important announcment:

due to the largely positive and enthusiastic responses for History of Battletech, Vol 1.

History of Battletech vol2 is now in production and will be out in a few weeks :D until then Solaris Fans!

  • The thing I love most about this video, since I knew most of the history already, is the music. Where did it come from?

  • The beggining music was C&C Red alert

    then Battlefield 2142 menu

  • need more of these!!!

  • lol is there info on the clans like u can put down other than kerensky like how khan vladimer ward and the other guy came to power and csj and clan gb

  • Staradder, you're an idiot. Learn to read and practice your comprehension.

  • stfu im sorta a noob with mechwarrior i started with mechassault so fuck off ass hole

  • hey, no swearing on MY videos! first of all, thanks grayfox for keeping things logical, staradder, grow up and learn to speak coherently and READ the words on the screen, for if you had read, you would have realized that this covers the years 2500-3005, which takes plave BEFORE mechassault

  • Although I do not recognize MechAssault as anything other than a bastard child of Wizzkids and what's left of the staff from FASA, I do believe it takes place on Mars just before the Jihad. Word of Blake nuked Outreach after the Dragoons attacked Mars.

  • no! omg thats unthinkable! the use of atomics is forbidden! so why didnt the rest of the IS destroy them?

  • Its kind of a complicated situation, but the short version is "WOB was part of the Second Star League and the Dragoons weren't, so everyone else looked the other way"

  • Not so much. It was more the shock factor than anything. WOB was extending protection to various planets in the Chaos March and were threatening to become a potential pain in the ass. The Dragoons tried to counter this by doing the same thing, but cheaper I think. The Highlanders were with them on this until all of their Elders "mysteriously" died AT THE SAME TIME. They recalled ALL of their forces back to Northwind to figure out what to do.

  • Then the Dragoon's city got razed by rogue mercs and they went on a warpath. WOB retaleated by invading outreach. The Dragoons got betrayed twice, once before and during the battle for Outreach, and STILL kicked the Woblie's asses. So, seeing that they were going to loose, they pulled back and glassed the rest of the Dragoons. The survivors, what little there were, retreated to Arc Royal.

  • The reason the rest of the Inner Sphere did nothing was because, at the (I think) final meeting before the Star League was officially disbanded, the WOB showed up in New Avalon, Tharkad, Northwind, and a number of other important systems, and blockaded them. Tharkad got nuked, too, along with a number of other notable places. It threw the entire Inner Sphere into chaos. Luna base had a LOT of mothballed Star League era warships.

  • man they really screwed over the storyline with that one :( frikkin wizkid's UGH!

  • I can't wait for part 2. This was a great movie, i love battletech but much to my shame I never knew much of the background :(. Now I am more educated thx!!!!

  • That was spectacular, as to find a way to explain to someone the back ground of battletech...........that would be damn near perfect. I am glad to see others keep the dream alive.

  • thank you very much! :D

  • Great vid! keep me up to date about volume 2 plz :)

  • mmm I hear you used "Big Foot" theme from Red Alert... :) Good taste, 5 stars

  • thanks! one of my favorite songs ever!

  • Wie schreit eine Siam Katze wenn man Ihr auf den Schwanz tritt??

    LIAO LIAO

  • Great video. One small correction, House Steiner was known as the Lyran Commonwealth before the merger. When Katherine Steiner broke her part away from the Federated Commonwealth, she renamed it the Lyran Alliance.

  • thanks for the info! :D

  • theres only so much i can cram into 10 min as well as this is a more generic overview of BattleTech, not a fanatical analysis (although if i had the time i would do so)

  • Er, is the Dark Age era even Canon?, I really don't know much about DA moreso of classic batletech.

  • This is an awesome history of the BattleTech universe. Are you going to follow the history all the way into the Dark Age era? And you skipped the whole thing about how the Terran Hegemony was once the greatest power in the universe and the Mackie and the battle of Styx.

  • I really like how you made the fotage in blacka and white when talking about the Succesion Wars. What are the casualty figures of these wars?

  • they never really say, but there was HUGE losses of life, equivalent to the destruction the plague wrought in medieval Europe

  • Worse, much worse than that. For example, the Draconis Combine wiped out somewhere between 50-90 million people in the Kentares Massacre during the 1st Succession War. I have to imagine that through the entire 250 years of Succession Wars you're talking about several billion casualties total. At least.

  • Yo monatrion, good work, keep it up. =D

  • Dude this is so good i might just cry, I love it!

  • Nice dude, good work. It really shows people what Battletech is all about.

  • it's awsome man.

  • what exactly does that mean? 'off the heeze?'

  • Wow... definitely watch this full view! GR8 Job can't wait for part II. Good storytelling.

  • full view everybody! you'll enjoy it better! :D
