As I remember she had been working at 'Sex World' in NY, which is maybe where they found her. Her name is Kathleen Lynch and she actually went on to be the vocalist for a band called "Beme Seed", so she was far from either deaf or mute.
I got to go and take part in an interview with them backstage during this tour in London and remember watching her for a little while, sitting in the corner, crouched to the floor, silent, expressionless and ignoring everyone, I probably thought then she was mute or something, but someone told me the deal soon after, maybe even during that interview, and I've read it repeated again and again.
The "go go" girl wasn't deaf. She just was freaky like the rest of them, and probably most of their friends, and made a vow before she left America that she would not speak for the whole time that she was in Europe on that tour. So, being completely mute all the time there the rumour developed that she was actually mute, and then that rumour mutated into the idea that she was a deaf mute. It wasn't true.
