A macaroni (or formerly maccaroni) in mid-18th century England, was a fashionable fellow who dressed and even spoke in an outlandishly affected and epicene manner. Not the pasta. To call something "macaroni" back then is the equivalent of saying something's "fabulously fashionable" today. The youngsters of today who are trendsetters (not the sheep who follow what others do to stay in with the crowd) who march to the beat of a different drum--that's who the song is talking about.
Que algunos querían cambiar el himno, que a ella le gusta como está. Que si entendés la otra parte del himno podés entender todo lo que pasa en el mundo del arte.
You have that right, she is brilliant. I am always in awe of her thought process and her creativeness. I am very happy to have seen her in concert. A completely amazing experience.
Actually, I think she is incredibly brilliant and sardonic...yet she far surpasses my own ability to be so and she is this multi-talented being...poet, actor, singer, activist, you name it.
I bet it would be hard to keep up with her as a friend or a lover, but I would give anything to be at a dinner party with her on occasion. I guess I'll have to settle for having seen her in performance a few times.
Scoobitzu i TOTALLY agree with what you said. i always marvel at laurie's fathomless brain. it goes to the deepest ocean beds, and up to the highest heavens, but i think she likes gravity's angel to pull her back down to WAY deep. who on earth gave her this brain?
+ when I saw the video just a few mins. ago, I understood why my English teacher made me learn ' Yankee doo dol' as my first lesson: she was preparing me to understand everything, hahahaha.
There are more to americans than that song. but if you like it, go with it. Laurie just sticks it right up the ass of america with her song. Gotta love that.
I forgot to mention...I guess I have a crush on Laurie Anderson. That would be a great gay short film, or the title of a book. Don't steal it, I am thinking it through.
Thank you make for not nicking the idea...I think it is a good one. Or it may fall into a combo of idealism related artists that I want to showcase. We'll see. At this point, I am happy for the expsosure to her work. She makes me laugh out loud. Does she do that to all of you? I hope!
Yes, she does indeed. She's an entertainer of high quality.
She manages to make you laugh and think at the same time.
There are few that master that ability.
Bill Hicks and George Carlin springs to mind though. their muse is of an entirely different kind of course, harsher, lacks that feminine sensibility I assume?.
The fashion came from the sons of the wealthy new middle-class merchants, who'd done 'the Tour' of Europe - particularly Italy, where men's fashions were far more dandyish than in stuffy old England.
The term 'Macarone' was a derogatory one, which caught on. Macarone came to describe the absolute epitome of modern style.
During the War of Independence, British Troops made up the song 'Yankee Doodle' as a taunt about what yokels the American colonists were!
Some call her "crazy" but I call her different, unique, maybe "extreme?" But she is definetely interesting! Listen to her other performances--especially "O Superman!"
Laurie has a great voice, either speaking or singing. She is great and I love her.

Consistently throughout her long career, Laurie is one of the most thought-provoking, intelligent artists on the globe.

Laurie Anderson's smarter than all of us, combined.
Love her.

I saw her 'tales from the nerve bible' in Copenhagen years ago. I agree, she does make thoughtprovoking and intelligent shows.
I'll never forget that.

i wrote a mini nerve bible on here now and i'm so damn verbose, it all got cut off... oh well... i'll just let ms anderson do the talking ...
while i'm out "Walking ............. the Dog."

Same here... that party'd be GREAT. Oh, and dont forget to send tickets, I'm in Argentina.
Well... coming back to real life, I hope she visit my coutry again sometime.
xunacabeza 3 years ago
I think Laurie would go if she knew she was welcome...so let her know. She is quirky enough to just do it, even if ticket sales were an unsure thing.
If not, then you need to save your money and visit the U.S., although I am not aware of any newer concert dates.
Scoobitzu 3 years ago
She came down here a few times. The first one she did alnost all the talking in Spanish... Incredible, and also quite fun.
And just for the record, she played ALL the show with the same keyboard I had, a Korg Wfd, which was very touching indid.
xunacabeza 3 years ago
Then you are a lucky person. I have not seen her in years, so I need a fix. ;-)

Star Spangled Banner and Yankee Doodle Dandy are forms of rebellion against the British..It's like we still hate americans.. What?..
Oh.. OK..
Sorry, seems like it's still on between you and the original bosses, or Europe, as you call them..

'..stuck a feather in his cap, and called it Macarone'.
Comes from a late 18th Century young men's fashion in London, for flamboyant, loud clothes and wigs / accessories.

Where did you get these "PSAs" through? They're great.

They were on a videotape of music videos and whatnot that Laurie Anderson put out in like 1990 or so.
