Thanks for uploading. Just put it to #1 on Netflix queue. Haven't seen it in years, but the open-endedness of this final scene stayed with me. Also, I had forgotten that a very young looking Scarlett Johansson was in this film.
My interpretation of this is that she kills herself. If you notice the old guy Norman whos always waiting for the bus that doesnt run, and hes an old guy. He finaly catches his bus, hence he dies? I think cause Enid is severly depressed about life she opts out. Or mabey cause Im severly depressed Im taking it the wrong way...
I thought this film would be another boring crap from Hollywood but Thora Birch made it look much better. She is amazing actress and unquestioning "master of weird roles". Steve Buscemi and Scarlett Johansson were great as well. Brad Renfro should have had much more screen time.
Whoa, the ending bummed me smooth out. Glad I saw the movie, very well made and seems almost too much like real life haha, but dang dude, that was just.... sad.
I wouldn't say it was necessarily sad, Enid had to leave to find herself. She finally had the chance to fulfill something she had daydreamed about earlier on in life.
Seymour, on the other hand, needed the upheaval of his life as a change. The funny thing is, he asks the psychiatrist if it's too soon to go back to his normal routines, but this seems unlikely because, if even slightly, he is a changed man.
this movie talks about little things of nonsense to some and pure sense to others, a half filled bottle is half-empty or half-full ,but admittedly is still half
yeah i know! the 1st time i saw this movie, I was 8, but i didn't understand it, all i understood was that Enid ran away. i just finished watching and it brings back memories lol
i felt that way too when i first saw it. to be honest though, if you watch the film over, you'll start to see why that couldn't make sense in terms of both characters. they're both lost in dreams in a dead town. nothing in the place is realistic. it's full of ghosts of what could be people, at least for Enid. the last scene is what gives it realism.
haha i'm amazed at how many people are confused by the ending because it's not a typical hollywood ending. it's Enid's escape from the dead town full of "ghosts" of what could be or had been genuine people. she's always wanted to get out. there's nothing for her there. watch it again and study the film if you really want to understand it.
She had previously spoken of her desire to get out of the town with Seymour and just leave everyone. To her, everybody is but a ghost; everyone is dead, so to speak. Except for Seymour; Seymour is the one that sees through the same eyes, despite the difference in generation (adding another element to the story). She is desperate for love, but everyone is inadequate; except for Seymour. When it is revealed that Seymour will never work, she realizes that no one is to be trusted and she leaves
just like she had previously planned with Seymour. And the thing with Norman leaving; she had previously said that Norman was the one that she could always count on; he would always be there. When he leaves, it is a symbol for her lack of ability to count on anyone, and she leaves.
omg my teacher has the comic in my class and it looked cool so i got it for SSR and he's like "you better not do anything they do in this book" i didnt get why until i read it!
whats the song playing in that scene?

I always saw the end, not as he fulfulling her fantasy of just getting on a bus to nowhere, but as a metaphor for he comitting suicide.
And it just felt too abrupt to me.

remember how she was talking about her fantasy of just getting out of town? well this is her doing it. at least that's the way it was in the comic.
