  • sorry...Cavaradossi....3:16-3:22

  • this is the best cast, ever!!! ( I love when Cavadarossi says " e rido ancor'.... e rido ancor!!") i just love him and Callas's voice behind!..... wow

  • What is not noted is the remarkably adept camera work, considering this a live performance in the infancy of such things. Further, the performances were intended to be seen from a distance (by the seated audience) not close up: it is similarly remarkable that they work so "cruelly" exposed.

  • ugh spoletta blows. Gobbi is a beast though

  • In a word, Genius!

  • I love this opera.

  • That Scarpia would scare the shit out of me

  • el espoletta no me gusta nada,le falta caracter, esta mejor el del film donde sale raimondi y alagna.

  • He´s the best Scarpia

  • THEIR CHEMISTRY IS PERFECT!!!

  • Silly Scarpia... he has no idea of what he is getting himself into. La Callas is supreme. My thanks for this post. My warm and kind regards,

  • thank you for posting this historic document! adorable forever

  • I love the look on Maria (7:57)when singing "it seems that one must lie to please you?"

  • OMG if that's one line I remember because of her face it's that. It's so convincing you don't even need to know what she's singing!

  • Titto Gobbi is wonderful in here the best Baron Scarpia ever and well, Maria Callas she was the best and still the best Tosca of all times they both were GRAND

  • It may not have been the best performance she ever gave of Tosca...yes, it was after her voice began to lose its quality. Still, there are very few instances of a Callas performance recorded for both audio and video. This may not be how you wish to remember Maria Callas, but opera is not sound alone, and I was born after she was gone. Let me have this, that I may know her.

  • Absolutely, I too was born way after she was gone, and being a fan who came in pretty late for her, I'm intrigued by her acting ability, for what is Callas without her interpretation?

I couldn't bare listening to her audio recordings frankly, I guess I'm used to the more modern, warm voice of today's opera; but her acting is exceptional, everytime, not only at her best.
