I suggest learning the proper terms of the parts instead of pointing and calling "this". You also forgot to mention the most important part .. Making sure that the engine is in TDC (top dead center) before removing the belt.
i have a honda prelude f22a1 engine....but i try to time the rear balancer shaft pully with the 6/100mm bolt and it doesntgo all the way through...even wen i try to screw it in
@kzkevin888 - The tensioner has a spring in it that applies the correct amount of tension to the belt [when the lock bolt is loose]. Simply tighten the lock bolt up, to lock it in place and it's set.
man these people rip you a new one man. I think your video was awesome although you did not show exactly how you put the timing belt on the vehicle. Did you have to line up marks? Did you just not disturb the engine while the belt was off? Not sure. Timing is a very delicate thing, especially on Honda engines.
@zzztubazzz Look who's talking, since when are hole and whole interchangeable, and supposed does not have a T in it. I've never had to remove an engine to change a timing belt, it's easy enough to do in the car a lot of the tame.
Yee-haw... Texas plates! I'm going to be doing this on my 87 civic...soon...thanks for the video! I'm also going try to un-seize or fix the a/c compressor which my ex girlfriend fried years ago...and might as well re seal the valve cover, its been leaking...
I have a 99 civic and it will mysteriously lose coolant and overheat like once a week, i don't think it's the head gasket, because there's no white smoke or water in the oil. the heat doesn't work even when the engine is warm. So i was wondering if I need a water pump or just a new thermostat
hold on guy ..... you didnt show me anything but the difference between a good and bad water pump but i want'd to see HOW yhu do tyming ... LOL thats wy i say HEY
You sir is not a good teacher/instructer. You seems to have the steps in a non-structured way. You dont even offer any precautionary measures like marking the positions of the timing belt. You needs to watch a video from Davids Farms to see how to impart knowledge.
Well, the timing belt may not have snapped, however I believe I noticed missing teeth when you showed it in the camera. Good outlook on maintenance. Several hours of work, but well worth it!
my bro used to work at the honda dealership in my city and 2 other shops. some certified people just dont give a shit. but on the other hand, some bosses are just bitches about pumping out cars, thats why they rush. the best is, if u can find one, a privately owned but very trusted shop...
Why change your timing belt yourself. Well I had the shop change the timing belt on my wife's corolla the first time it was done. The second time I did it myself. Guess what I found. Rather than taking out a hard to get to bolt on the timing belt cover they just ripped off the cover breaking it. They boogered up one bolts on the engine mount and the hole. So no more taking the shop to have it do.
Unless you already have car tools and a work shop, don't even try to replace your timing belt. The Honda shop will change it from $550 to $700. It's totally worth it unless you have alot of time and tool including torgue wrenches, Crack bolt adapter, parts ordered, etc.
why make it so hard to change a dum belt i mean jacking up the engine, undoing crank bolts. i wonder why people love hondas so much if they wernt front wheel driver or didnt have a cam belt. u wouldnt have to deal with this shit
Thanks for this great video! This video helped me prepare before I did my own timing belt and water pump on a honda engine .. of which I have had many. I see you used the crank pulley tool. I didn't have a good way to jack up the car for clearance nor a solid surface for a big breaker bar so I opted for the impact wrench but even that way it's tough to break that crank bolt!!
Anyhow, I made a video series of timing belt & water pump replacement on the 2.2L DOHC VTEC H22A1 when I did it.
Did you end up changing the belt yourself? I did it and it cost me alot of money in parts and alot of time. I looked at it as a good learning experience. Good thing my uncle had most of the tools I needed.
great video, i was looking for a "how to vid" for changing my timing belt and it just so happens i have the same car and engine jackpot! also at 4:01 you definably said "dont forget to lose the pin that holds it in place" :)
the mount that connect to the a/c compressor and chassis u don't need to take it off to get belt off. you just unbolt the 2 screw that connect to chassis and slid the belt off.
Would you sell the speical attachment/bracket for breaking loose the crank bolt? I am in the DC metro and would even pay for you to come and break loose the bolt on mine.
This video is okay but I must say he needs to put some light on to the subject he is working on I can only see the side of the engine he is talking about. Yea the bottom is good but the side view was horrible.
Great video, really helpful. Does honda typically have marks on the pulleys for the crank and camshafts to line up with some kind of marking on the block incase of a broken belt?
Great Video, help me a lot I have 1992 civic tne crank pulley is a little diffrent it does not have a a place for the pulley tool you use to loosen the bolt, I had to make something up. but great video.
Couldn't you have made this video without the radio noise in the background?

Wrong, You can do it like this. Easier to do it with it out but this way is fine. Although his way of explaining things is not the best.

- You forgot to mention if during the process you turn the camshaft ,... What you do than ..
Changin timing belt can damage your engine .. if you do not know what are you doing.
You have to know if your engine is interference or non interference engine.
In interference engine if missiline the belt with correct timing , you will damage valves and it will going to cost 1500-2000 $ to fix.

On many Honda's,you have to place a jack under the engine since you have to remove an engine mount in order to remove the Tbelt.
