Thanks! What a voice! and thanks for letting us know that he is one of Otto Edelmann's sons, who I heard more than once in Amsterdam in the fifties! The golden era of singers!
I know not the man, but he displays a rich, pure and powerfully dramatic style that transfixes ones attention. No doubt the angels of heaven did cast an admiring glance towards him, being well-pleased that a mere mortal shows such appreciation for the gift he was given by god by exceeding all measures of delightful sound more valuable to the soul than all the treasures that in books are found.thank you!!!
Many thanks for this awesome edition, - the only match I know of is Basil Lams edtition with the English Chamber Orcherstra.
But more importantly; this is not only music, but history captured in music and words. No wonder why Handel felt such an urge to finnish it, - as he did in only 22 days, if I remember correctly. It is good to know that God will fullfill history himself.. God bless and many thanks
Of course to be really considered authentic you should sing the whole darn thing! As usual with these modern performances they leave off the B section to the words:
"for this corruptible must put on incorruption
and this mortal must put on immortality."
accompanied by the continuo alone to give the trumpeter a rest, as well as leaving off the da capo of the A section.
I believe this performance-- splendidly interpreted by this amazingly gifted singer -- is the best version of "The Trumpet Shall Sound" I have yet heard.
Oh my god, WHO is this SINGER!!!???? He is magnificent!!! His outfit looks like he ran over quick from a rehearsal of "The Nutcracker" next door, but wow, can this guy sing!
@Alcazar1931 What's his name? I know a few trumpeters from Wien. And it looks like a piccolo in G (sol) as per his fingerings? Also, do you know where this concert took place?
I doubt that anybody writing in to youtube could even sing this movement in their DREAMS, let alone get through it on any instrument! So just enjoy the performance of this masterwork for what it is. some of you cyber-armchair-critics make me ill.
Yes, anybody knows what kinda tube, what crazy mouthpieces might have been used by the 1st trumpet player the first time around? It wasn't THAT long ago! Nice rolling 'r's by the baritone! Not from Brooklyn, is he?
It is not perfect to the style but most performances of the Messiah are not true to the style either. Many times there is too large of a choral group, orchestra, but still maintains the stylistic features of the music.
Very nice performance and they stayed within the style of the Baroque performance of the piece. This is the best of the youtube offerings for this piece of music.
@khman1983 They play on modern instruments from the 20th century in this huge orchestra and for some reason there is a guy in front of it waving a little stick around. This is as un-baroque as it could get. Atleasted they had a harpsichord!
@07rabo1 No, I am not saying every interpretation of music of th baroque era must be preformed in the way the era intended. I am just saying this is not a baroque style interpretation.
@hxly2 There aren't any "true" interpretations of this piece, I guess you would call the original performance back in 1742 for the "true" interpretation, but Händel changed his music alot threw out the years so I guess he would be rather understanding of most versions. If you ask me I would say that one of the versions out there with Alastair Miles has a rather nice baroque bag to it! :)
Hm... not the best rendition. Pretty out of control at times. And the English isn't great "raised" sounds like "raced" and quite a few funny vowels...
@skingaz : singer is Paul Armin Edelmann from Austria, orchestra is conducting Karel Mark Chichon and i think, that this was actually Christmas concert in Vienna 2008
An Austrian broadcast from the Wiener Konzerthaus with the famed Wiener Sängerknaben. Unusual to hear a performance in English for a German speaking audience.
His voice is very rich, it has a great tone.

Wish he had done the middle part ("For this corruptible..."). It is SO beautiful and enthralling and so difficult to hear nowadays.

Humnnnn, I HAVE SEEN him live as Papageno in Die Zauberfloete.
Terribly engaging, marvellously sung and acted, magnificient stage presence!
The younger son of Otto Edelmann, no less!

Who is this amazing performer. What else has he done? The trumpet is glorious too.

@yeswecanread
He is the younger son of the great bass baritone Otto Edelmann.
He has sung numerous Mozartian roles. Papageno is one of his calling cards.
Also, magnificient in Die Fledermaus...
Yea, the operatic world SHOULD learn more about this young baritone...
(His voice is very much like his dad's, too).
