The two sides of the fan are quite different, he didn't risk any cut if he tries the right side. But the LEFT side would instantly chop off his tongue since that is the leading edge of the blade and not a trailing edge, see what I mean?

@Dracopol Furthermore, he uses the inside, where the inertia is far less than it would be in the outer edges. Basic physics.
