  • tommy and jane have a lot in common

  • Mitza, you play WoW?

  • @LadyLuck282 Yes, but what if Jane hired someone to kill his family and the other victims, the ones he has alibies? And what if the masked guy who killed those two was also someone hired by Jane to play the Red John character? But Jane was surprised and he had no reason, right? What if Jane has two personalities and they're constantly fighting against each other with the Red John one winning so far?In the end there's no solid argument against the theory of Jane being Red John.

  • Simon is so HOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrDarkkamui Jane isn't red john. That's a ridiculous theory, excluding the fact that he loved his family and spends all his free time hunting red john.

There is substantial EVIDENCE that Jane isn't red John, like the fact that he has an alibi for his family's murder, plus many others red John committed. And I haven't seen all the eps yet, but unless Jane can be in two places at once (which, btw, would make your whole theory plausible), who was the masked guy?

  • When he says "You wouldn't understand", I just get this smirk on my face.. Oooh buddy if you really knew.

  • When Jane says "I can see you." Total chills: freaking brilliant actor.

  • I didn't understand what he ment with the t-shirt,, kan someone explain me?

  • @Stjernekeeper97 Basically a goth t-shirt involving death, since it has a scull with a pike-axe through it, not exactly a shirt somone would wear in a house of mourning

  • @Lightingwarrior Thanks!

  • @Stjernekeeper97 the t-shirt had a skull image on it (resepenting death) when someone close to you dies, nobody would wear a shirt like that

  • that look jane gets in the end, he's like "oh I understand perfectly well what that might feel like"

  • AHHh! This really is the best! This is the first episode of the Mentalist I ever watched. Got me good and hooked too!

  • Comment removed

  • the way his face changes at 2:10 its amazing!!

  • Good acting man very good Love the fact he come from retard to fuck you i killed them all muhahahaha scary shit LOL

  • this is Harry Potteer

  • i agree, this is the best episode ever, fucking amazing scene , prolly the best ever !

  • Patrick Jane: It's like when Captain Ahab was chasing Moby-Dick. The whale died, all right, but the Peapod went down too.

Thomas Olds: Peaquod. Ahab's ship is the Peaquod.

Patrick Jane: (Begins to put plan into effect, knowing full well about the ship's real name) Exactly. The Peaquod. Silly of me.

  • Patrick Jane: Why don't you just talk to me Thomas? There's no point in hiding anymore. I can see you.

Thomas Olds: (dramatic lean back and conversion to real self) What do you wanna know?

Patrick Jane: (nonchalantly) Hello. Good to meet you.

  • I love when Jane says "I can see you" and then you can see Thomas change from his "special" look to his normal look

  • Patrick is so cool and I would love to be an Colsutant!!! !!!!

  • The power of observation..

  • "Tommy's an act. A... a performance." If he hadn't been exposed as the killer in this case, I'd have thought he was Red John. Then again, he seems a little too young.

  • I love these kinds of moments in television... tearing the mask off of "daring killers with warped senses of humour."

  • "I don't know what you're saying sir, but I like wizards..." "The other man said he'd get me a root beer, but he never did." This guy... his IQ must be off the charts if he's this good at manipulation. (no sarcasm)

  • Tommy Olds you genius.

  • I've always loved this scene...the man's so brilliant.:):P

  • what is the name of the music in the background of the clip

  • The look on Lisbon's face!!!!!

  • @MrDarkkamui That is crap, why dont you watch further episodes before u start making assumptions

  • @Jadok4536 LMFAO!Peace dude...PEACE :)

  • @moneybee123 It is episode 9 from season 1

  • Can someone tell me what episode is this plaease. :)

  • you wouldn't understand......wouldn't he ?

  • @MIKEA61989 So I've been notified....about four times...

  • From which season is this?

  • @RooqShaatir Season 1, episode 9: Flame red

  • this is the very best scene <33

  • As I remember it the whale in Moby Dick doesn't die, it gets harpooned, but no where is it mentioned that it dies.

  • Moby Dick is a complex book about revenge and is considered part of the Western Canon in that it has influenced Western culture.

  • Damn, that guy is a bloody brilliant actor.

  • am i the only one that doesn't get it ? can anyone explain this please ??

  • @annesophiebuset Well, "Tommy" was just an act, that Thomas put on so others would think he was an idiot. That way Thomas could get away with things, because people would find him to stupid to be responsible for his own actions. When Jane saw through the disguise, Thomas dropped the act and showed us the 'real' Thomas.

I hope this answered your question.

Sorry for my horrible english and grammar

  • @Acianonyx oooooh ok now i get it :d thank you ! :)

  • @annesophiebuset Np ;)

  • that was a great episode and what a shock when he started talking normal.

  • My ultimate experience would be Patrick Jane and Carl Lightman working the same case togheter.

  • @loplification Please read the comment two below yours, because I'm not repeating myself again.

  • Wait, so if Jane is Red John, then does that mean that Jane killed off his own family?

Could Patrick Jane have another personality?

  • @1akhilverma Look, I'm terribly sorry that I wrote that comment over a year ago and incorrectly defined his transformation. Honestly though, it really, really isn't that big of a deal. The guy did a 180 degree change. Now, is that better for you?

  • i know why he knows it al. its easy he is red john him self. he look so cool but he is nothing more then the killer him self. and sure it al look dam cool what he do. but most of the thinks are easy i try it my self and beliefe me it fun to do it.

  • very very good actor if he can change that fast....

  • 100000000000 points to Patrick Jane ^^

  • @PrejudiceDice LMFAO!What the hell is your problem man?Wait don't answer that i don't care :)

  • Jane just explained how Red John works...it's funny really,he was right in front of our eyes this whole time.(Yes Jane is Red John)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrDarkkamui jane cant be red jihn because red john resucuoed him from two students who was recreating red john murders.

  • @winchest961 Wow well can't argue with that...Bye-Bye :)

  • @MrDarkkamui This is just ridiculous that there are still people that really think that Patrick is Red John.

If I'm wrong then every third episode didn't really happen, it was just an imagination of "Red John". Why not? Could be true ha?

Or there isn't a Tyler Durden in this show...

  • @BlindingScientist WOW I'm impressed...u watched "Fight Club" well good for you ;)

  • @MrDarkkamui

    nah, just heard of it

  • @MrDarkkamui jane isnt red john, we have seen in countless episodes that he cannot be red john. for example there was the episode where the three kids were trying to make a red john film and they kidnapped jane and tied him to a chair. the person that saved jane was red john and jane couldnt have saved himself because he was tied to the chair

  • @Mrawesomo92 Is that so...WOW thank you so much for your comments ;)

  • @MrDarkkamui Jane can't be Red John! there are 2 different men

  • @NevadaRoad Says who??

  • @MrDarkkamui If you've read the Pillars of Mysteries, namely Ronald A. Knox's 10 rules for writing mysteries, the detective must never be the culprit. Every self-respecting writer of mystery would know this by heart.

  • @MrDarkkamui Explain please

  • @MrDarkkamui Plus, in "Red Sky in the Morning", Red John himself saves Jane from being shot. I think Tommy's explaining why Jane feels so strongly about killing Red John; how he'd pay any price for revenge.

  • @pizzainabowl Yes u are correct...;)

  • @MrDarkkamui Jane is not Red John, that just makes no sense whatsoever. But it was a very interesting theory to consider.

  • @Hildron101010 Thank you i really appreciate your comment ;)

  • @MrDarkkamui So according to your theory, Jane murdered his family? Jane hired Rebecca, Bosco's assistant, to kill Bosco and his team so that Jane could get back on the Redjohn (Jane) case? Jane saved himself when the Redjohn (Jane) copy cats were going to kill him? Jane recited tyger tyger to himself while tied up? So what you're telling us is its not Red John, its Red Jane? Yeah... No... Good guess though

  • @magicmike1122 Red Jane XD ...cool story bro XD

  • @magicmike1122 WOW!Just WOW!

  • @MrDarkkamui so you say he killed his wife and child at the same time as he was in a tv show talking about red john?? kinda hard to belive that he was at 2 places at the same time dont you think??

  • @MrSap97 Yes....

  • @MrSap97 Wink,wink...;)

  • @MrDarkkamui FUCKING SPOILER.

  • @MrDarkkamui I'm kidding obviously.

  • @MrDarkkamui are u sure of that lol ?

  • @MrDarkkamui

Jane can't be red john, if he was then Rosalind Harker (the blind girl) would have recognized his voice as red johns, unless of course she did and jane told her not to tell anyone. Even if that was the case, Timothy Carter would have recognized that Jane was Red Johns when they met in the shopping center, which means he wouldn't have pulled a gun out on him, lets say Timothy didn't know, who was the guy that saved Jane when he was kidnapped? it was Red Johns. This is not fight club

  • @ThiagoNevesTheBest LOL!Of course this is not "Fight Club" hahahaha but back to Red John..let me ask you a question...what makes you think that Timothy Carter ever met the real Red John?

  • @MrDarkkamui The fact that he knew exactly what Patrick Jane's wife smelt like the night Red John killed her might be a contributing factor.

  • @MrHatAndClogs1001001 OK!Lets say i kill your neighbors wife and start calling myself Red John, and than your neighbor starts hunting me,so one day i decide to tell you all the little details about the murder and than YOU tell it to someone ELSE(a friend or a business associate)and than your friend meets with the victims husband, tells him all the little nasty details about the murder and claims to be Red John...see what i did there ;)

  • @MrDarkkamui Nawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

  • @MrDarkkamui

congrats, you started a hell of discussion^

  • Me encanta.

  • aw shit... with weak evidence*(i meant to say with no real evidence but i forgot to erase the "no")

  • i dont understand.. why did tony admit his killing and why did he cut off the act? just because one person with no weak evidence said that he can see through tony?anyway i didn't see the whole episode so i might have missed something... i'm still the fourth disliker though

  • @alfader1 Short answer? Pride most likely. Jane goaded him, appealing to his sense of pride and self-righteousness and he took the bait. That's how I saw it anyway.

  • His abilities really goes with his face.

Of course, an attractive facade is needed and is a great element of successful hypnotism and influence. Can't get enough of this show!

  • my favorite part is whenever he tried to act cool then lisbon ruin hi cool but he still tried to continue acting cool and run away lol!

  • Keyzer Soze!

  • oh cool, a complete copy of Psych

no surprise that they copied thousands of other movies and TV shows with this scenario

    good for them

  • oh shit. just got spoiled for what people tell me is a good book

  • His accent is pretty good, but when he says "I'm supposed to be finding.." he slips back into straight up australian.

  • I really believe Patrick did read something like marginal notes or footnotes in the book that revealed part of the real Tommy....and of course, Tommy suspected about it!

  • Watch Primal Fear, Ed Norton's performance's way better, and I agree that he should never have stopped pretending, the cops had no proof, he could have got out of this.

  • @euhsha I was just about to mention that movie. Ed Norton did a great act, he could've fooled Patrick.

  • i swear i couldn't agree more ! ... best scene ever ... the 2nd best scene is when the psychic tells jane what his wife wants to deliver

  • Jane was thinking of Red John when the other guy said "revenge was worth it".

Its getting really exciting to see what will actually happen to red john

  • pero la que la va a superar sera cuando jane y lisbon se den un beso

  • I don't understand the logic of mind that wrote this scenario. Real killer would never stop pretending, if there is any chance to get out.

  • @deejayconte True.

  • "Ahab does die, doesn't he?"

"Yes. But so does the whale."

Why do I have a creepy sense of foreshadowing here.

  • I love it when Simon Baker smiles, it's like he a clever smiley face. Lol

  • naaah, I don't see how this can be the best scene, this scenario has been used in so many movies already...

  • Andrew from oz hehe

  • 2:04

    "I can see you"

    TOTAL TRANSFORMATION

  • OMG, he just transformed

  • jane can see everyone... i love him <3

  • Who plays Thomas? Whoever it was is a brilliant actor!

  • That was actually pretty shit

  • Awesome.

  • This was actually the first episode I ever watched. No doubt why I became a fan.

  • great actors

  • I have DVD of the first 2 season. Cant wait for the third season DVD and Season 4. This is the one show that I can just watch over and over again :)

  • Excellent, wow me.

  • Wow... I'm speechless..

  • oh he would

  • @TheFlashpua You know an actor has an extreme abundance of talent when, within five seconds, they can do a complete 360 degree transformation right in front of your eyes.

  • @dumbledork9 a 360 degree is the same think... you wanted to say 180 degrees my friend

  • @dumbledork9 A 360 degree transformation is back to the same point. Duh.

  • @dumbledork9 well... if you do 360 deegree change you end up in the same place so your comment is a bit off.

  • @dumbledork9 I believe you mean 180, 360 would mean he reveals himself then goes back to what he originally started out as.

  • this is the one episode that i never forgot , pure entertainment

    great performance

  • I smiled the EXACT same time as Jane :)

  • harry potter reference to the cloak of invisibility. if i already wasn't dtf i am now!

  • what episode is this??

  • @lychee159 Season 1 Episode 9 Flame Red

  • @Technogrow55 thank you. ive watched all the meantalist all 3 seasons. guess i missed that part or simply forgotten.

  • the "You wouldn't understand" is genius.

  • Nice of you for putting the subtitles into. ; )

  • just found this but lovin the music in the background... gonna itunes this!

  • Omg, this was just a little bit scary...

  • where can i download it with eng subs?

  • Maybe he is red john..

  • @BamberrXD

    no hes not

  • @BBSBSensashunz How do you know?

  • "I see you" made that dude pee in his pants and his mind thinking "freak"

  • This was my favorite episode, however I did figure it was Tommy only because I saw the book in his trailer ... crazy

  • When I saw this I was flip. I was like, "HOLY HORSE POOP ON A STICK!!!!" Then he went into that long detailed explanation about how he got caught by Jane, and I was dumbstruck… the only thing I could say was, "I like whales… They eat squids…."

  • Now he understands...

  • he is totally an underestimated actor

  • I almost feel like towards the end, Thomas strengthened Jane's resolve to kill Red John with all that talk about revenge being beautiful and redemptive.

  • ironic... because Jane wants to get revenge and kill Red John. If he does...he'll be just like this mental case :/

  • @natiekat This guy is anything BUT a mental case. He wanted revenge, and did get it. But does he look sorry that he got caught? No, he avenged his friend. Had I been him, I would have done the exact same thing.

  • @natiekat no he wouldnt, his wife and daughter were killed by red john. Believe me you would also like to take revenge on him if you were on his place!

  • @natiekat

what would you do if someone killed your wife and child ??? and left you a letter on the door saying

dear jane if you were really a psycho you wouldn't have to open the door to know what i did to your lovely wife and daughter (( there is onther words i just cant remmeber them this is a short cut of the message =D))

  • daaaaaaaaamn !

    jane is reeeeeeeeeeal good

  • so i herd u like whalzes

  • hulk transform into a fat guy.

  • I would have liked to have seen Cho's reaction when he changed, we got to see Lisbons and Rigbys but not cho's i was expecting a slight eyebrow lift! LOL

  • always liked the kids acting since i seen him in oz

  • What season and episode is it? I wanna to watch the whole

  • @ngaying4

This episode was titled "Flame Red' and it was shown during 'The Mentalist' first season in December 2008. This episode had the largest audience of any 'Mentalist' episode aired to date and was the number ONE show in the Nielsen Ratings that week with almost 20 Million Viewers.

  • The text never states that the Whale is killed with the Pequod's crew,, a fact which even Herman Melville comments on

  • HELLLO if you kill people for revenge you are a mental case!

  • @spider1g5 not always. red john killed his wife and kid, and THOUSANDS of other people. I think a death sentence for revenge would suite him.

  • HELLLO if you kill people for the thrill you are a mental case!

  • This IS one of the best scenes. It's amazing how that guy just transforms. It creeps my Mum out everytime we watch it.

  • Oh, he DOES understand.....this reaffirms Patrick Jane's quest for vengeance against Red John for the brutal murder of his wife and child.

  • AAAAAAAAAAhhhh...now I understand..when you want to find out something you just say "Peapod" and there it is. :D:D:D

  • This episode has stayed with me :/ I really REALLY thought this guy's innocence was real

  • dude that is some good acting

  • "I can see you" That was intense.

  • man, from 2:04 onwards his character just changes in seconds. He somehow looks like a rounded edward norton.

  • wooah - I remember this episode. I find it interesting and slightly scary how his face is so round, soft and innocent and within 2 seconds it's replaced by a hard, cold, deceptive mask - the actor is really very talented!
