Such a great show with wonderful humor. I sometimes wonder though which is more humorous. The show or the fighting, arguing and name calling going on in 7 or more pages of comments. No wonder Jos is disabling comments on most of the episodes. I asked him why and he told me because some people are ruining it for him. He put forth all this effort to provide us with these shows and it bothers him that some people don't appreciate it. Have the decency to show him you care.
I cannot believe how much dispute there has been about one joke.
A 'Ham Actor' is an over-actor. This is derived from actors around the time of Shakespeare. It refers to the type of bad actor that over acts to the point of ruining the performance. These days you could compare it to the lowest grade of amateur dramatics.
Daphne's basically messing around, play-acting in an OTT, faux-dramatic way. She's English, therefore; an imported ham. She's 'hamming it up'
They have to fight about almost everything. The part where Niles was talking to his dad was amazing. Very true episode about what clubs can do to people.
SavoyTruffle78 is wrong. Ham IS NOT American slang for drama queen. I hate to agree with that Arthur asshole but it does refer to a bad actor or actress. So everyone stop giving SavoyTruffle78 a thumps up cause she's wrong!!!
This is a fantastic episode! "Glad to be aboard sir!" But one of the best quotes of Frasier is in 'The Doctor Is Out' from season 11 when Alistair asks Frasier "Would 3 weeks on capri in bertollucci's villa change your mind?" and there's a long pause and finally Frasier goes "It's worth a try!" Brilliant! :D
Why does he say they got their names mixed up? Frasier was chosen because he's a radio psychiatrist, and that qualifies him as a member of the entertainment industry.
@manaburn He said they were firm about accepting someone in the entertainment business. This more than likely means they were firm about NOT accepting Niles who they thought was the radio psychiatrist.
@Arthur5041975 Wait, what? They thought Niles was the radio psychiatrist, and even though they said they were firm about accepting someone in the entertainment business, they chose Frasier? What?
If they wanted someone in the entertainment business, then why not accept Frasier?
@Arthur5041975 I was about to tell you exactly which school I went to, but then I realized that it's pointless to argue over the internet with a overgrown buffoon who can't even paraphrase an 30 second conversation properly.
The prosciutto is an imported ham. In American slang, a "ham" is a drama queen. Daphne is from England and she was being dramatic, so Frasier called her an "imported ham." Get it?
@SavoyTruffle78 As in the phrase "ham it up". Frasier doesn't have a predilection to American slang so I doubt it's your definition of "ham" he was using.
What the fuck are you babbling about, moron? That's exactly what I said. Frasier is calling Daphne a "bad actress from England," hence "imported ham"!
@SavoyTruffle78 no you cretin. You said it's American slang for a drama queen. Learn to articulate you illiterate fool. At 31 you have no excuse. a "ham" means a bad actress, it is not an American term and it has nothing to do with prosciutto or any other type or variety.
@SavoyTruffle78 George Bush clearly isn't spending enough on those educations of yours. It's an English term you twit. Derives from ham fatters of Shakespeares time. How are pathetically ignorant, aggressive losers like you allowed on the internet. Also look up the meaning of drama queen...seriously. Your inability to use words/phrases correctly astounds. I hope you don't teach. A 31 year old man who thinks that people take him more seriously when he insults them. lol. Don't bother to reply.

In medevil England when a actor used to much make up.
It could only be removed by using grease from a ham.
Hence the more make up you used the more ham you needed to remove it with.
That is where the term ham comes from.

They're not going to accept anyone in the entertainment industry, actually.
That's why they chose Niles, but they mixed up their names and instead they said they accepted 'Frasier Crane' .
