  • when this record was reissued in 1971 Tami claimed in the press it's real title was "Why Don't I Run Away From You" and a typesetting error resulted in it being given the wrong title......does anyone know if this is true ?

  • First record I ever bought, on re-issue in 1971.

  • brilliant song , a friend of mine ( much older than me ) he told me he remembers it being played at the northern soul all niters as they'r called . he used to go to venues such as the top of the world club newport road stafford , and the famous wigan casino . god i used to feel dead envious cos , they sounded really great buzzing and coming alive times. even now he is 66 he still enjoys going to these venues, when and wherever held !

  • The great Bert Berns wrote and produced this wonderful record. He also wrote and produced ' Here Comes The Night ' for Them and many other truly brilliant singles.

    He died at the age of 38 in the sixties. But the music he created continues to

    have it's joyous and powerful effect on us all. Long may it do so. Thank you

  • Apparently this was released in the US in 1967 but didn't do that well, but when released in Britain was so popular it became a hit in 1971 and 1975.

  • @Georgiahulse actually it was 1965 when it was first released, Jerry Wexler discovered Tami (real name Gloria Brown) and got her to record this on Atlantic back in 65. It was a song that had been written by Bert Berns (1929-1967) who was responsible for many songs at that time .. Hang on Sloopy, The last time etc. Kiki Dee covered the song in early 1966 on fontana retitling it Why dont i run away from you

  • the opening few bars of this is quite like another song....it took me 3 hours for my brain to sort thru a bunch of songs till....It printed out: Lou Christi's "Lightning Strikes" !!!

    In the Uk it was on Atlantic AT 4071 in1966 and got nowhere in the charts till it's 1st reissued in 1971 on MOJO 2092 001 then again on 2rd reissued in 1975 Contempo CS 9026

    But some old Gold station always seem to play the rerecording of the song it's sounds the same till it come to the backing singer
