Back then you can publicly show your affection for your father and not be looked at strangely. That's why we see this in such a way, he might not be a pedo like we automatically think.

I've just noticed that in modern times a young girl being affectionate with her father in public is looked at strangely (which shouldn't be since it is just a father and daughter) but with so many actual pedophiles out there people are a little paranoid about that,and might mistake a daughter and father's public affection for something bad.
