The Kenyan government should send troops to WIPE OUT those perpetrating murder, arson, hooliganism. Many of these 'protesters' are BIGOTS and BANDITS who are exploiting the dubious election results to attack their fellow citizens and to loot. Any civilian assaulting another or resisting pacification efforts should be SHOT or HANGED. Corruption must be addressed legally, not lawlessnessly. Summarily executing those those responsible for the carnage would instill this message and save Kenya.

sadly many govt officials were found to be BEHIND the attacks. within minutes of the election, mobs set up parameters and began looting. it was organizeed & backed by politicians. the violence is a consequence of kenya's history of "ethnic"-related tension (as a result of political manipulation and ethnic group favoring as tactic to remain in power). the govt needs to pressure to end corruption (ironic) but it won't be easy, most civilians mistrust the govt- they take bribes daily, i've seen it.

On the issue of violence, I think that Raila is wrong to refuse talks with Kibaki unless Kibaki concedes. Peace in Kenya should be of paramount importance right now. The vote can be re-counted or challenged in court.

Hi there I am going to play devil's advocate here but what legal institutions are there to ensure that justice is available? Remember that the bi-election in Lamu was held in 2007 after a petition was filed in 2003 where is the fairness in justice denied. Like Raila said, the government wants him to go to the courts they control since they even appointed judges to the high court and court of appeal a few days to the elections.

If Kibaki is so confident that he won, why doesn't he allow a recount or an international independent investigation? Simple, he stole the seat. He should have done what Mandela did years ago, but we all know that's not gonna happen. I just came back from Kenya in August. It is a beautiful country, and Kibaki did some good to the country. What Kibaki is doing now lacks transparency, and I think Raila really is the winner. People in Kenya don't play when it comes to there rights! Americans should protest when our elections are rigged too, but without the violence.
