In the final game in the 72 series with the score 5-3 Russia....Dryden made 3 great saves. They went on to win 6-5. He never lost a deciding game (4-0) and 3 were on the road.Remember the Russians didn't waste their shots many years ago....they looked for the perfect pass goals. I don't know any North American goaler who was outstanding against the Russians for a long period of time.
@2112murphy He let in 19 goals in 4 games, for 2 wins and 2 losses. I wish the NHL players would have played more international games before that, but unfortunately, the ass Bunny Ahearn was not a fan of North American hockey. At least the series got things rolling for the future, and now the Olympics are the best on best.
tough to compare both since Dryden faced less shots and played with a powerhouse team ... Roy faced many more shots with a weaker team. Dryden came through when it mattered whereas Roy was called upon to make more saves.
Ken Dryden, goalie Montreal Canadiens for 8 seasons...Won 6 Stanley Cups..lifetime record 258 wins 57 loses 74 ties LIFETIME 2.24 G.A.A. retired at age 31 !

I was 8 years old at that final game the Flyers lost to the Canadiens. A brutal loss indeed to the Best team ever.

@2112murphy He was in 1972 Summit series for 4 games, not the best performance, either. Not in any Canada cup.
