  • Beautifull played.

  • Very Good. What is your name?

  • not bad, man, well done! wish I could play like you. There are always people who like to be super clever about everything and pick holes into everything - to me, anyone who can play like you is very accomplished indeed

  • not bad, man, well done!

  • i don't like you technique.

  • @senunotrop I don't like "you" spelling. But we're not all perfect, are we.

  • @senunotrop Technique ? How old do you think this guy is ? Very few can master it technically at his age. What do you play ? The fool ? Amazing job you man BRAVO.

  • @busylifemeto I did not say he played it wrong. Well this is my opinion, you don't have to accept that. So stop with agressive commentaries. :)

  • @senunotrop Sorry it just annoys me how many here are so quick to criticise. This guy is obviously very talented and playing a very difficult piece, the left hand particularly and already admits no time to polish it . He is playing what is less obviously a lot less than an 8' 6" Steinway Concert Grand :). What do you refer to as "style" please ?

  • Amazing job dude!! right now, i wouldn't even attempt this right now and i've been studying piano for about 10 years now (age 17). You're really good!

  • hahaha I wish I played piano. I'd totally learn stuff like this instead of study. You did very well. Kudos!

  • ohh thats impresionant¡¡ the way than you play it is so good, not the best than i haved listened but its very good¡ how old are U?

  • Sounds like this song influenced Nobou Uematsu.

  • pendiente de ponerse unos zapatos jaja

  • bene!!!!!

  • Bravo! You have real talent.

  • Hey, pianist! I suggest you check out Azschenaky's performance of this piece. I probably spelled his name wrong, but he's all over youtube. He also plays many other rach preludes.

How old are you? I'm soon 16, and I'm hoping to catch up with you in terms of technique. Currently, I'm practising on Scherzo no. 2 by Chopin and the A moll concert by Grieg.

  • Enjoyed this greatly. This is very good playing, a delight to hear.

  • I would suggest that the pianist in the video eats more. Look at those wrists!

  • MM713:

do you do technical exercises like Czerny or Hanon? or you just mostly play a lot of pieces to improve your technique?

  • Nice piano.

  • Bravo!

  • That's some raw technique right there. I believe this is a hell to practice. Well done!

  • your great

  • Tbank you for putting forth such a Valiant, whole hearted effort...and you did very well especially considering the piano you are working with. Upright piano's do NOT have the fast action capacity to really handle the pyro technique of virtuosic Rachmaninoff pieces. This piece is extremely difficult to play well.

  • pyro? You are stupid.

  • This prelude is very well executed!!! well!!

  • Richard Kastle is worse even than her. Type him into youtube!

I don't always get Lang lang's interpretations. It is a shame Idil Biret has SO MANY RECORDINGS!!!!!!!

I sometimes feel you cannot escape them on naxos!

  • oh yeah, richard kastle. takes my breath away. can't believe how someone can be so cocky about his crappy playing and yet thinks he's the god of piano. btw: i DO acknowledge i'm crap. =P

i can't stand lang lang or yundi li...!!! ergh. i can go on forever about them....

  • The highest level of technique is in the Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 by Franz Liszt.

  • ahahahahahaha. definitely. =P

  • @anthyper if you think the hungarian rhapsody 2 is of the highest technique, you should listen to rachmaninoff's 3rd concerto, you cant even compare the two technically or musically

  • @nmbanana or Liszt's Transcendental Etudes, or Alkan's minor key etudes, or Godowsky's studies on Chopin's etudes, or....[bunch of other stuff]

  • @celach etudes aren't even close the rachmaninoffs 3rd concerto or prokofiev's 3rd concerto

  • @nmbanana I really doubt that. Almost every music student comes out of their studies playing rach's third, hardly any proficiently play Liszt's Transcendental Etudes, or have even heard of Alkan.

    v=rSw-SnTivv4

    v=3HOQpwzU-IU

    v=SfN7xf6JymQ

I'll concede that maybe they're not "more difficult" because that's hard to judge, but to say they're "not even close" isn't true.

  • @celach the king of them all is sorabji's opus clavicembalisticum

  • @MM713 Did you have to spoil the mood by mention Lang Lang lol AND your not crap !!! You have an amazing talent keep on with it.

  • @MM713 Amazing and NO your a long way from crap, Lang Lang is crap egotistical idiot destroys music.

  • I HATE Idil Biret, I think the interpretations are all just wrong. There is allot of it on Naxos. I love ashkenazy, and horowitz. But I also love Angela Hewitt (esp on bach!). I saw Yefim Bronfman perform Prok2 live!! with vienna philharmonic! AMAZING. (Victor Borge is a legend... lol!)

  • omg. i WAS going to say that, but i thought it's a politically incorrect thing to say. i SOO agree. idil biret is like the shattiest (yes, shatties =P) pianist on naxos. although art is about interpretation, but seriously, hers is just way out of line (methinks). i've always wanted to say this, but no one gets me coz no one knows idil biret and they don't listen to her on naxos.

ashkie is awesome. bronfman is excellent. prok 2 is legendary. hamelin is out-of-the-world. borge is hilarious.

  • I have finally found my Ashkenazy recording of it. He is fantastic, he also takes it at a really fast tempo, which is brilliant, because he manages to do that without sounding at all messy!

Have you tried many of the chopin studies... the one in thirds!!! (I am struggling)

Which pianists do you like best?

  • oh yeah i've got his recording too. of course he's one of the classic pianists. i haven't tried the one in thirds - can't be bothered hahahaha. hmmmm i don't have a fav pianist, coz every pianist has their own interpretation, and it's hard to say who's better than another, etc. however, there're lots of pianists out there that i realllllllly don't like. especially those pop style pianist scandalising classical music (maksim, for example)

  • i agree, i dont like maxim, he sucks as a pianist thats y, i dont really care about the image, i only look at the sound of performance and interpretations

  • Hey!

That is awesome, I have been looking on the naxos website to see what recordings there are, and I prefered this to both the ones I found on there. People seem to get confused by the piece and put too much rubato in.... Which fortunately you haven't. It is one of those pieces where the music just speaks for itself! I find it hard to belive you learned it in a week, but then If I was meant to be revising I would have probably learned it already! I am working on it, and have been for a month!

  • hey thanks! yeah, it's hard to find a good recording on naxos, despite the massive number of it. yes, i agree with the rubato bit too - and also especially when rachmaninov believed in strict timing.

Thanks for the comment =) good luck with your playing

  • WIll you marry me? J/k. I'm also in medical school and play piano. But to learn this peice in a week. I dont believe it honestly. I've been playing for over 15 years and it took me a few weeks to get it perfectly.

  • lol you'll believe it when you have your end of year exams coming up and you don't want to study - that's why i could learn it in a week. like all the learning capacity has been transferred from med to music

  • I was not speaking to you little chinese tangram.

  • oh? who were you talking to?

hmmm tangrams too hard for me XD

  • wow, i really liked that! how long have you been playing?

  • nice job spider fingers. If you learnt this is a week can you please post the G minor for tomorrow, thanks. ;-)

  • lol sorry i can't. got a loooooooadddd of studying piled up this year. i promise i'll make more when i grad =)

  • HOLY MOSES!! how long did it take you to learn this piece perfectly!? it was like Evgeny Kissin's performance! this must be waaaay harder than the piece im practicing (Campanella) wow, i dont know whatelse to say besides "WOW"

  • lol it's not THAT good =P. it's probably just that kissin's performance was filmed badly. hmm let's see...it took me around a week to learn this. i learnt campanella too. you can't really compare pieces coz they have different interpretation, notes, etc etc. (mozart is waaaaaaay harder than this)

anyway, thanks for the comment =)

  • wow, only a week. that's insane... :o

well, thanks for the answer and again, very nicely done :) you're right about how you can't compare pieces

  • You're in med school?! How much time do you get to practice? How much did you do during undergrad?

I'm so worried about practicing when I get to med school :/

BTW...well played. I'm playing it now. I play it differently than you but I still enjoy watching your performance

  • yeah i'm in med school. so time's a bit of an issue here, especially when i'm approaching graduation (omg!). i guess i can always make time to practise or to study or do whatever i want, it's just a matter of how to prioritise.

you're playing it? when do i get to see it? =P

  • Hmm...as soon as I start playing the correct notes in that extended 4-note chord passage at the end :P

Haha...I still remember my impression when I first looked at the score for this piece. I can't believe Rachmaninov actually expected us to play all those notes!

But I'll probably have a bunch of new videos up in November. That's when I get access to a computer good enough to transfer video from my camera.

Do you continue to learn new repertoire?

  • hmmm not so much now since i'm doing my final year. but i try to do some "polishing" so that i can grab a recording of my other pieces and let you guys critise how badly i'm playing =P

you're right. the first time i saw this piece, i was like, "pfft yeah right" so it somewhat came to a surprise that i actually did manage to learn it....during my swotvac too!!!!

  • You're never going to get to medical school.

  • i AM in my final year of medical school........lol

  • That's awesome! You MUST compete with E. Kissin and kick him off! It's the best perfomance of this etude I've heard! =)

  • hahahahaha you must be joking. i'm never as good as he is.

    never.

but thanks for the compliment anyway

  • Punaise! tres tres bien joué! je veu le joué aussi! tu pourras m'envoyé la partition stp!!!!

  • there a few things that you do need to polish indeed, but all in all it's great, i wish i could play that piece, it's just incredible. good job not studying hehe.

  • Congratulations! I know how difficult it is to juggle medical school studies with piano practice. You have done well for this prelude!

  • Sometimes, people don't play the song all loud.

  • Sometimes, people don't have cameras with adequate audio recording system.

  • hehe YEA!

  • Yes, they are the same people that play the song continuously loud, and are additionally poor.

  • Does anyone know where to find this sheet music? I've been looking everywhere, and I am unable to find it. If you know where it is, just send me a message on my page, I would love to play this for ym senior solo next year.

  • That must be soo much fun to play.

  • Holy cow!! You so own this piece!! My gosh, you are a fantastic pianist.

  • wow immense. learning this myself its SO hard :'(. cant get the timing between the two hands.

  • How hard was this piece for you? Harder than Ravel Jeux d'eau?

  • ummm it's hard to compare really. i think they're difficult at a different level. but if i really have to choose, i'd say this one is more difficult to manage in GENERAL

  • Hell yes. What your performance has that many here on YouTube lack, (including Kissin) is fire. Rock on, M&M.

  • yet again, i wish i was asian...DAMN THIS WHITE SKIN! =P =) (_(_)

  • 10 stars

  • thanks =)
