I was there in June, 2008 because my ancestor was baptized there in 1627. He moved to Strawbery Banke in what is now Portsmouth, NH. The cedar tree is the location of the famous outdoor pulpit and the medieval tower lasted until a lightning strike July 1940. The rest of the 19th Century building was destroyed during the Blitz. Hello. The Medieval building was pulled down circa 1880 - I have photos of it and NOTHING of the exterior was retained in the later church. The new church was burnt out within a year, but the tower was undamaged. That was used in the final building. It was bombed during the Blitz but the ruins - including most of the tower - remained until the early 1950s. I've got some distant photos of the ruins.
