I think Home is sony's party system on psn i think that's what they wanted to do with it like once you get to home you can jump into any of your friends games or maybe even recruit guys into your game I thats what i think is the purpose of home and thats what attracted me to Home but it's still a beta. I think the XBL party system is an awesome idea dont know if its that great cuz i dont hve XBL :(

Overall it shouldn't be about exclusives that makes it "console of the year" but what effort was done per each console, so far PS3 has only been releasing exclusives and minor updates. And Sony has to step up in improving other areas of it's device.

I agree (I also own a PS3) with the video, that the PS3 has been stepping it up, but the 360 stepped up a lot more recently. Like DLB said, with LBP's launch, you couldn't get online at all, or it was laggy and such. It wasn't a good launch for such a big title. Things like that, the in-game XMB features (half of the things don't work, etc). I love the PS3, and I'm not much of a 360 fan, but 360 still, in my opinion, wins the console of the year, simply because they did try an did better in that

PS3 is definitely more powerful than 360, but I own Xbox because it has a much better game arsenal. MGS is my favorite series, but thats the only game I could even see myself owning on PS3 right now.
Sony is doing a lot for, IMO, extras what what about the core of gaming? The games. I find a lot of people discussing systems like to talk about the extras, while there are gamers out there like me who just see that stuff as what they are. My choice is always dependent upcoming games..
Some of the things I would really like to see change on the ps3 would be: redesigned ps store (i really hate it) bc for ps2 and ps1 (on core models), also i price cut would be nice but idk about that.
Ps3 exclusives never get to be a big hit as X360 exclusives. Final Fantasy XIII was said to be a Ps3 exclusive, but since the X360 position was so outstanding in games, they had to announce it for the X360. The X360 is also easier to program a game than Ps3, that's why I think most Game Engines such as Rockstar add more content to it. Ps3 just needs more in-game features, less lag(online), and easier interaction with friends. If Sony can pull that off, I bet they'll be able to do well in 2009.

Its a little to late to completely redesign the 360 now over 3yrs into its lifecycle. I am happy to report, though being initially scared, I bought my 360 pro console in Nov. '07 and have not had a problem with RROD at all and I play it a lot. I think it depends on how you take care of the system as well... also I have never played one DVD in my system b/c I hear it fucks up the laser so that could be it.
As far episodic content for GTA, there is nothing to cry about over that, thats allGravy!

Yes I do. MS just gave its gamers two episodes of DLC for GTA IV excluisvely... which is a great thing. MS wants to give its360 owners some exclusive content that SOny could give a shitless about.. its a good thing, in a recession and 360 owners are getting some icing while PS3 owners are left in the dust.
By the way, Sony has just announced that Epic will be giving the game UT3 splitscreen, and a Mod browser. Mods are exclusive to the PS3, and splitscreen used to be exclusive to the 360. 360 gets Mods, but only the ones MS gives you, and like many other things by MS, you have to pay extra for them. Epic wanted to give them away free, and give the user full control to customize them. But again, MS siad "if you are going to have Mods, you gotta chage for them". So, you lose again MS fanboys...

theres blu-ray. Ps3 seems to be a good system considering it has a weaker gpu then the xbox 360 and games are starting to look better then 360 on ps3 like killzone 2. The cpu has no affect in this becuase the cpu passes info between your GPU,RAM and HDD. CPU also processes physics and animations but thats it theres no drastic improvment since 3 cpus is more then enough to send information out smoothly. i think blu-ray helps games have better textures
Not really. The PS3's GPU is enhanced by the cell processor, and the final output of the PS3's GPU is more powerful than that of the 360's. The RAM is in question since both systems use different RAM architecture.

Both consoles delivered equally in 2008 IMO. The difference of sales was very marginal. Both had good games and flops. Both also had their share of problems with their new "facelifts" for their online services (lots of people had trouble logging into the beta with PSH, and NXE also had problems which have yet to be addressed, read about them on wikipedia "Xbox 360 technical issues").
2008 was the best year of the ps3 so far. But in the beggining of the year, ps3 fans said that 2008 was the end of the xbox 360. When it actaully delivered more than 2007.
Oh and i bet you a 1000 bucks HD DVD would have had a better chance of winning if it was built-in on to the xbox 360. And uh no, NXE only caused problems to a few people (ussually people with the old model xboxs). PSH caused probelms to like 90% of all psn users.NXE was a huge success, so dont even compare it to Home.

PSH beta suffered the problem MAINLY on the first day. It's not as bad now, but the final version has been delayed even further until they can stabilize the servers.
PSH has been announced 2 years ago. Everyone with their right minds would complain to sony. I have seriosly never heard of problems with NXE. In a matter of fact, it solved alot of the issues with loading times and freezing that i had by installing games onto harddrive.

Yes, I agree PSN and the XMB still need work. All gimmicks are usually useless, regardless of console. HOME just makes it easier to interact with friends, which is what made PSN inferior to XBL. But from now on, it's all up to the personal preference.
I honestly think the PS3 is a great console. And i DO believe it will win the console war. Playstation is a big brand. But the small issues that ps3 has is what stops me from buying one immediatly. I just wish Sony would go back to gaming instead of media.

Actually, my cousin's PS3 died on Christmas day. Sony is charging him $150 to fix it! He gave me 15 PS3 games though, so I'm not complaining. To be fair, though my 360 (I have both) quit reading discs in early December. Microsoft will fix it for $100. Neither company is going out of their way (unless we're talking about the RRoD) to please us.

i like ps3 and i was in the killzone beta and it was awesome but i just know when killzone first releases the online is gonna suck. its gonna be laggy, slow and fustrating and it will only be after a couple months, a few complaints and forums till sony fix it up it happens with a lot of their games. sony always have to release updates to fix problems. if sony could fix up their online, not copy or add new things just tweak minor problems and lag it would be the best by faaaaaar!!!

Dlb u have a point and all but u gotta look at the comparison from 07 to 08. From 07 to 08 the 360 made 1 update to their network and I believe like 2 major system updates and 1 price drop. From 07 to 08 the ps3 made a whole bunch of system updates like in game xmb, in game music, home, trophy support and everything else u said urself. ps3 loses money for each system the ps2 is still out because they need to make money somewhere, they cant be pulling it out of thier ass. Bluray isnt a future DVD because its only for HDTV's not tvs in general people would still use DVDs because it still looks good on an HDTV and people still own standard TVs and most computers dont even have Bluray installed because its not useful for computers. which is why bluray is costing sony.

since microsoft is a software company and they did create Direct X they know how to make games run better on xbox 360 esspecially with direct x because thats thier tool which they created giving them more power for tweaking direct x for the 360 and optizing more games which is why in 2006-2007 games looked better.he graphics in 2008 but micrsoft can catch up because they own direct x. Ps3 is not challanging the 360 with MGS4 and killzone but the 360 can come on top if they just do more tweaks
The only reason why 360's graphics earlier looked better on multiplat games is because of a higher frame rate (since devs didn't know how to work with the PS3's new architecture). If MGS4 wasn't a challenge to the 360, it would've went multiplat. Killzone 2 also looks better than any game with the exception of Crysis, and it's only using 60% of the PS3's power.
IF you ask me, 9GBs of space is suffecient for now. The ps3 will only use all that space for games with long-cutscenes (ussually japenese games -_-).
But think of it in a diffrent perspective. IF developers had limited space to create an awesome game, they would talk as much advantage of it as possible and add all the content that would make the game worthwhile. With 50 Gbs, game developers would ussually use it to prolong the story (like the actually story, no gameplay).
It was mainly the case for MGS4 when it came to cutscenes. They had to use data compression just to fit 50gb exactly. We'll have to see what they do with the other games.

ps3 Cell processor isnt as powerful as it is advertised, it may be more powerful then the tri-core but it doesnt have 8 spes(cores) it has 6 because one is disabled and one is running the OS. ps3s gpu is less powerful then xbox 360, 360 runs double the gpu process that the RSX can which is why cell processor is good because it can help the gpu process graphics but at the same time the 360 GPU is unified meaning it can help the cpu which is why these systems are pretty equal
Wrong. It does have 8, but 1 is disabled, making it 7. Do the math. Also, GPU wise, PS3 is superior due to a higher amount of Shader Ops. It also uses 256mb XDR ram, while 360 uses 512mb of GDDR3 ram. XDR is more efficient than GDDR3. Also, the cell processor's output in the way of FLOPS (measure of the computer's performance) is far more powerful than that of the tri-core.
GPU wise, there is barely a diffrence between the 2. CPU wise yea, ps3 wins hands down. But even till now, The Xenon is still easier to work with for game developers. Ofcourse this will change. Overall both system's hardware have a bitch-load power. And the games show it. Oh and we all know the ps3's full potential will never be used anytime soon, if ever.

PS3 was never about a game console to compete with the others.They have PS2 & PSP to do that.They used PS3 as a format to introduce Blu-ray to the market.If it wasn't for the 20 million PS3's sold Blu-ray would of been a dead format like betamax.Considering they make royalties off of every Blu-ray disc sold their making millions off of blu-ray alone.

PS3 is definitely more powerful than 360, but I own Xbox because it has a much better game arsenal. MGS is my favorite series, but thats the only game I could even see myself owning on PS3 right now.

Ps3 exclusives never get to be a big hit as X360 exclusives. Final Fantasy XIII was said to be a Ps3 exclusive, but since the X360 position was so outstanding in games, they had to announce it for the X360. The X360 is also easier to program a game than Ps3, that's why I think most Game Engines such as Rockstar add more content to it. Ps3 just needs more in-game features, less lag(online), and easier interaction with friends. If Sony can pull that off, I bet they'll be able to do well in 2009.

Oh and about the lag, I didn't mean that to all Ps3 games I meant some compared to the X360. X360 is made by Microsoft and that company deals a lot with internet. So in result, u get the best and fastest connection out of XBL. I've played games online on both systems and I gotta say, X360 wins! Overall XBL has less lagging, and also, interaction with friends is so much easier and quicker! The Ps3 u need the XMB for the best experience out of the system. 360 doesnt need it because it has it all.

Its a little to late to completely redesign the 360 now over 3yrs into its lifecycle. I am happy to report, though being initially scared, I bought my 360 pro console in Nov. '07 and have not had a problem with RROD at all and I play it a lot. I think it depends on how you take care of the system as well... also I have never played one DVD in my system b/c I hear it fucks up the laser so that could be it.
As far episodic content for GTA, there is nothing to cry about over that, thats allGravy!

By the way, Sony has just announced that Epic will be giving the game UT3 splitscreen, and a Mod browser. Mods are exclusive to the PS3, and splitscreen used to be exclusive to the 360. 360 gets Mods, but only the ones MS gives you, and like many other things by MS, you have to pay extra for them. Epic wanted to give them away free, and give the user full control to customize them. But again, MS siad "if you are going to have Mods, you gotta chage for them". So, you lose again MS fanboys...

theres blu-ray. Ps3 seems to be a good system considering it has a weaker gpu then the xbox 360 and games are starting to look better then 360 on ps3 like killzone 2. The cpu has no affect in this becuase the cpu passes info between your GPU,RAM and HDD. CPU also processes physics and animations but thats it theres no drastic improvment since 3 cpus is more then enough to send information out smoothly. i think blu-ray helps games have better textures

Not really. The PS3's GPU is enhanced by the cell processor, and the final output of the PS3's GPU is more powerful than that of the 360's. The RAM is in question since both systems use different RAM architecture.

Both consoles delivered equally in 2008 IMO. The difference of sales was very marginal. Both had good games and flops. Both also had their share of problems with their new "facelifts" for their online services (lots of people had trouble logging into the beta with PSH, and NXE also had problems which have yet to be addressed, read about them on wikipedia "Xbox 360 technical issues").

2008 was the best year of the ps3 so far. But in the beggining of the year, ps3 fans said that 2008 was the end of the xbox 360. When it actaully delivered more than 2007.
Oh and i bet you a 1000 bucks HD DVD would have had a better chance of winning if it was built-in on to the xbox 360. And uh no, NXE only caused problems to a few people (ussually people with the old model xboxs). PSH caused probelms to like 90% of all psn users.NXE was a huge success, so dont even compare it to Home.

PSH has been announced 2 years ago. Everyone with their right minds would complain to sony. I have seriosly never heard of problems with NXE. In a matter of fact, it solved alot of the issues with loading times and freezing that i had by installing games onto harddrive.

Actually, my cousin's PS3 died on Christmas day. Sony is charging him $150 to fix it! He gave me 15 PS3 games though, so I'm not complaining. To be fair, though my 360 (I have both) quit reading discs in early December. Microsoft will fix it for $100. Neither company is going out of their way (unless we're talking about the RRoD) to please us.

i like ps3 and i was in the killzone beta and it was awesome but i just know when killzone first releases the online is gonna suck. its gonna be laggy, slow and fustrating and it will only be after a couple months, a few complaints and forums till sony fix it up it happens with a lot of their games. sony always have to release updates to fix problems. if sony could fix up their online, not copy or add new things just tweak minor problems and lag it would be the best by faaaaaar!!!

ps3 is a failure, not saying its bad its just that sony put themselves in a fuck up position. saying sony is future proof and that the system was made to last for 10 years is just talking out ur ass because sony already admitted to be thinking about releasing ps4. why would u be thinking of release ps4 this early when the ps3 has only been out for about 2 years? because ps3 is a failure to sony not saying the system is bad but its costing sony. Hopefully ps4 is where its at for the next gen.

Consoles are for dopes who know nothing about technology. Oblivion, BioShock, cod4, cod5, Fallout 3 all look 100 times better on PC. Consoles are a torn in the side for the progress for games technology.

Its funny looking at all the PS3 , Xbox heads fighting over which console is the best. Dlb u have a point and all but u gotta look at the comparison from 07 to 08. From 07 to 08 the 360 made 1 update to their network and I believe like 2 major system updates and 1 price drop. From 07 to 08 the ps3 made a whole bunch of system updates like in game xmb, in game music, home, trophy support and everything else u said urself. Basically wat I'm trying to say is that ps3 has made the best improvements through 08 and that's y I believe it should be console of the year.

honestly i think Sony had tha best comeback ever i mean in 07 ppl were like PS3 aint got games 08 they had about 5 or 6 exclusives and they promised that they would be good and they were MGS4 sold 1 mil tha first day of sales and tha game was good but xbox did they thing tho i mean tha price drop dont really mean much u heard PS3 was off by a few hundred thousand sounds like alot but not really i think 08 was the year of the PS3 cuz there numbers increased and games got better than ever

ps3 loses money for each system the ps2 is still out because they need to make money somewhere, they cant be pulling it out of thier ass. Bluray isnt a future DVD because its only for HDTV's not tvs in general people would still use DVDs because it still looks good on an HDTV and people still own standard TVs and most computers dont even have Bluray installed because its not useful for computers. which is why bluray is costing sony.

since microsoft is a software company and they did create Direct X they know how to make games run better on xbox 360 esspecially with direct x because thats thier tool which they created giving them more power for tweaking direct x for the 360 and optizing more games which is why in 2006-2007 games looked better.he graphics in 2008 but micrsoft can catch up because they own direct x. Ps3 is not challanging the 360 with MGS4 and killzone but the 360 can come on top if they just do more tweaks

The only reason why 360's graphics earlier looked better on multiplat games is because of a higher frame rate (since devs didn't know how to work with the PS3's new architecture). If MGS4 wasn't a challenge to the 360, it would've went multiplat. Killzone 2 also looks better than any game with the exception of Crysis, and it's only using 60% of the PS3's power.

IF you ask me, 9GBs of space is suffecient for now. The ps3 will only use all that space for games with long-cutscenes (ussually japenese games -_-).
But think of it in a diffrent perspective. IF developers had limited space to create an awesome game, they would talk as much advantage of it as possible and add all the content that would make the game worthwhile. With 50 Gbs, game developers would ussually use it to prolong the story (like the actually story, no gameplay).

It was mainly the case for MGS4 when it came to cutscenes. They had to use data compression just to fit 50gb exactly. We'll have to see what they do with the other games.

Yes exactly. Killzone 2 would be impossible to port becuase of hardware diffrences, but MGS4 uses up more space than DVD9. But its not like we havent seen multi-disc games before. Just look at Lost Oddyssey and FFXIII

ps3 Cell processor isnt as powerful as it is advertised, it may be more powerful then the tri-core but it doesnt have 8 spes(cores) it has 6 because one is disabled and one is running the OS. ps3s gpu is less powerful then xbox 360, 360 runs double the gpu process that the RSX can which is why cell processor is good because it can help the gpu process graphics but at the same time the 360 GPU is unified meaning it can help the cpu which is why these systems are pretty equal

Wrong. It does have 8, but 1 is disabled, making it 7. Do the math. Also, GPU wise, PS3 is superior due to a higher amount of Shader Ops. It also uses 256mb XDR ram, while 360 uses 512mb of GDDR3 ram. XDR is more efficient than GDDR3. Also, the cell processor's output in the way of FLOPS (measure of the computer's performance) is far more powerful than that of the tri-core.

GPU wise, there is barely a diffrence between the 2. CPU wise yea, ps3 wins hands down. But even till now, The Xenon is still easier to work with for game developers. Ofcourse this will change. Overall both system's hardware have a bitch-load power. And the games show it. Oh and we all know the ps3's full potential will never be used anytime soon, if ever.

for real bluray is what fucked them up, im not saying bluray was a bad move because sony isnt a software company, Which is why DVD-9 is succeeding in the xbox 360 Microsoft knows how to compress more data to a DVD then sony does, if sony went with DVD-9 like the xbox 360 they would have worse looking games and short games. They needed bluray no matter what but the thing is that bluray is what fucked them up. So sony put themselves at a shitty situation.

Sony Introduced CD-rom.They introduced DVD.Now there introducing Blu-ray to the masse's.
PS3 was never about a game console to compete with the others.They have PS2 & PSP to do that.They used PS3 as a format to introduce Blu-ray to the market.If it wasn't for the 20 million PS3's sold Blu-ray would of been a dead format like betamax.Considering they make royalties off of every Blu-ray disc sold their making millions off of blu-ray alone.
