@F14ace star trek and star wars are both so awesome, i grew up on both and could never chose one over the other. each has its weaknesses and strengths, and both are remarkable. hearing people attack one in favor of the other always strikes me like someone saying they love ice but hate water. its.. odd.
I'm sorry, J.J. Abrams did make a good attempt at re-booting the ST franchise, but you can't just KILL off the one character that gave Kirk the inspiration to achieve what he did for Starfleet and the Federation. And to make him a delinquant and ex-con, C'MON!! for crying out loud, give the man at least a decent beginning. Maybe not the same exact one, but something close to it.
Out of All the End Themes to star trek . This one is the MOST Powerful score in my opinion.. I love it. and I'll follow you to the edge of time, space, and the universe Jean Luke Picard. You are my Captain. Thank you Gene Roddenberry and Jerry Goldsmith .Rest in Peace
@odonnell1218 He was a legand of StarTrek TOS to TNG. But he never made this film also it's a good thing that somebody took over his place to carry on making the movies and someone else made the series of ST: Enterprise that make Gene Roddenberry's dreams or work go on!
@odonnell1218 The theme used in the credits for the new movie was perfect. That movie was based on the early Kirk era, so using the original theme from the TOS was completely appropriate and fit really well :)
I don't know, it seems like they want a completely fresh start, no TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY or anything, just a absolutely complete reboot. It's not like TNG when they used the TMP theme. They want to make it completely new. Whether they did it nicely or not is up to us to decide. Personally I enjoyed the new movie quite a lot.
@odonnell1218 it has nothing to do with Star Trek OS though.. This is for TNG, it would have made no sense. On the other hand I would like to see another TNG movie, possibly a well done one
@strikerk Actually it's the Theme from Star Trek - The Motion Picture (1979) When Jerry Goldsmith teamed up with Alexander Courage (Music composer of the original series) came the theme to Star Trek - The Next Generation.
@spectre0075 I absolutly agree with you. I love jerry goldsmith and the new life he gave to Star Trek. I Love Both the original series and The Next Generation. Star Trek will forever live Long and Prosper.
I feel in love with this music when it was introduced to the world in 1979 when the very first Star Trek film was released. Jerry Goldsmith earned his place as one of the greatest film composers ever. Beautiful music for a great Science fiction series of films.
out of the TNG movies this is the best one. i just find it funny TOS was a tv failure yet still became popular and had the best movies. TNG was a TV Success and had decent movies
Love the entire score, its amazing, and great the way it goes back to classic trek at 4.20. Easilly the best thing (this and the intro) of all the Treks
This is another powerful one! That and the original 1979 main theme and ending theme! I like the whole segment from 1:20 up to 4:10 and especially the ending part. The end of this theme is the REAL END of the film!
@666SLAY3R666 What's wrong with you heh JJ Abrams is a trekkie he seen all the trek films but that's why he made the his version of StarTrek. I would have done the same thing but instead on the old crappy ship I would made a film set in the future not in the past. Surely I've seen ST: First Contact and it's amazing but you and I can't blame Abrams he's like the rest of us doing his part. I respect all startrek film I watch.
@sugarraydodge Hey, I wasn't being mean, I just thought the story was a little weak and it had several plot-holes. I didn't like the Borg Queen either. It wasn't all bad, and it had some great music. My favorite Star Trek movie is the new 2009 one. I'll respect your opinion, so please respect mine.
@Lizfan2 I think if it's done by a company like Pixar or DreamWorks, it would be pulled off well. There would also have to be a killer score that gives Next Gen fans goosebumps. Personally, I would like to see a movie like this that is set sometime in Season 4 or 5 and doesn't involve anybody with the name "Crusher," but that's just me.
@Lizfan2 Other than the fact that she almost ALWAYS the least helpful character around, constantly says really stupid things, and motivation in many episodes is almost always really, really flimsy, nothing. If I were in charge of the script, I would use the standard explanation for character absences: she is attending Stupid Nonsense Seminar of Stupid-Named Planet 6. I think Dr. Selar would really shake things up story-wise, but that's just me :D
@Lizfan2 It looks bad when it's over used. The Director's Edition of ST:TMP uses modern CGI for it's completed effects and the digital models look almost indistinguishable from the studio models used in 1979. In fact, I remember seeing a render of the Enterprise from it, it looks JUST like the pictures of the studio models.
So no, it doesn't suck when it' used properly used.
I get goosebumps when the Next Gen theme begins playing at the end. It's like "Oh, man. I remember how awesome this thing was and how much it meant to me as a kid!" I still say that the Next Gen cast deserves one more film. Can anybody say CGI Animated set sometime in Season 4 or 5? I CAN! It would be worth it to hear the theme at the end of the credits once again...
@sugarraydodge The only thing is, the TNG cast is too old now for another film. Patrick Stewart is 70, Jonathon Frakes is 50-something, & the rest are in their 60s or 70s.
@sugarraydodge A prequel or interquel is even more problematic as the storyline is full. A sequel is better: Data comes back through B4 and Riker and Troi cross paths with the Ent-E in a regular basis. And the Titan turns out to be a Galaxy class, so you get your dose of Ent-D.
@MasterMacLeod I think that if you're going to kill a character, you should kill them for real. In my eyes, Data is dead and is never coming back after Nemesis. The more I think about it, though, the more I think putting a story in Season 7 (before or after All Good Things, but definitely before Generations) would be ideal. IMO, there were more bad episodes than good that season, so it would be interesting to see how a film or even a graphic novel could flavor the canon in that particular year.
Also they didnt even include this theme in the soundtrack! Thats just plan taboo for a Trek film not to have this theme. Every Trek film has had it since TMP.But this is by far the best version.
ST:FC ST:WOK and ST:UC are my top 3 favorite Trek films. I hope the next one will be better then ST 2009.The thing that made it unwatchable for me isnt just that they re wrote the time line without fixing it,but also the fact it had that those horrible glare effects everywhere. It actually gave me a headache to watch.
@DarthAzmul i hated jj adams enterprise it was crap nessles were to big star drive sector was to big they should have had the orginal enterprise they did it on deep space 9 on eppisod trial and tribbles they did it on star trek next generation on relic thet showed the bridge of it and they did it on star trek enterprise theses are the voyages lol
Great music, indeed. But the BEST Star Trek movie!? You've got to be kidding. It was entertaining, but mostly an action flick in space. Not very Star Trek to me, it just happen to occur in the TNG-universe. The original movies involve a lot more trekking about, this one involved time-line contamination and a likable, intelligent, and enlightened captain of the Federation turning into a homicidal maniac...
@neostardust yeah i'm sure that if you were assimilated by the borg you'd want to give em a big hug and sing kumbaya (or row row row your boat) around the campfire with them.
Picard 'loosing it' was one of (if not the most) genuine part of this movie - only serving to underscore how long and how hard he had to work to bottle up his true feelings about the borg how much damage they really inflicted on his psyche.
@squad3417 I guess we just don't count the fact that he could have DESTROYED THEIR ENTIRE RACE back in TNG, but didn't. I didn't say he shouldn't have fought them... just that going nuts while doings so was so very unlike the Picard most people were used to.
lovely music. I can't believe it was only for 2 TV live-action series: TOS and TNG.
but this one is a little extended than the Kirk's one.and that's when i like to hear and play the TNG score more than once. And it continued thru the movies from the Motion Picture even though it extended for the original cast and then for the TNG cast as well.
@rudyalapag5 TOS....ST TNG....please stop abbreviating everything...i get that TNG means the next generation but what the fuk is TOS?....and ST? star trek...but why abbreviate that?...i hope u dont talk like that in real life cuz ul really PSPO....piss sum people off
@DarthConnis9999 Nah, as far as the Starship Enterprise is concerned, Enterprise E was the best. Enterprise A never worked right, which was a pathetic joke, and was just another Constitution Class refit. No originality what so ever.
Ah, sweet memories. Trek was at its height both on the big screen and small screen. We had new DS9 and Voyager episodes to look forward to each week and some of us had still not seen every TNG episode.
The music for this film is undoubtedly some of the best in Trek.
Wish I could turn the clocks back to re-live those "glory days" of trek.
this was my favorite of all the star trek movies, and cementing the even = good movie thing about star trek. all though it had serious plot holes, it was the easiest to follow, great special effects and by far the best music. it was also the best TNG movie, with nemesis at number 2
@johnadams8000 - yeah i agree, definately the best star trek film. I know nemesis was the finale but wish the they would make another one with the TNG cast.
nemesis at no. 2??? nemesis was full of plotholes. one is: a ships needs targeting wings and a scope with claws to hit a stationary target bigger than an aircraft carrier from 1 km away?
@yapurehefty i might agree with you if it had not had the stupid borg queen, the very idea of her was stupid and because of this movie we had to deal with her in voyager too.
@sniperdude12a Hey Voyager screwed a lot of things up. Don't criticize TNG for VOY's mistakes. She actually did make a little sense. She was the CPU or the motherboard. She was what kept everything moving smoothly. I think it was a mistake to call her a queen as she only seemed to be a supervisor then a leader.

The original movies involve a lot more trekking about, this one involved time-line contamination and a likable, intelligent, and enlightened captain of the Federation turning into a homicidal maniac...

@neostardust yeah....but is was good....
strade100 1 year ago
@neostardust yeah i'm sure that if you were assimilated by the borg you'd want to give em a big hug and sing kumbaya (or row row row your boat) around the campfire with them.
Picard 'loosing it' was one of (if not the most) genuine part of this movie - only serving to underscore how long and how hard he had to work to bottle up his true feelings about the borg how much damage they really inflicted on his psyche.
squad3417 1 year ago 4
@squad3417 I guess we just don't count the fact that he could have DESTROYED THEIR ENTIRE RACE back in TNG, but didn't. I didn't say he shouldn't have fought them... just that going nuts while doings so was so very unlike the Picard most people were used to.

lovely music. I can't believe it was only for 2 TV live-action series: TOS and TNG.
but this one is a little extended than the Kirk's one.and that's when i like to hear and play the TNG score more than once. And it continued thru the movies from the Motion Picture even though it extended for the original cast and then for the TNG cast as well.
for 3 ST TNG films.

I love this end title of this STAR TREK Film!
Enterprise E looks alot better than Enterprise D did!
redonejs53 1 year ago 6
@redonejs53 The Enterprise A looked the best!
DarthConnis9999 1 year ago
@DarthConnis9999 Nah, as far as the Starship Enterprise is concerned, Enterprise E was the best. Enterprise A never worked right, which was a pathetic joke, and was just another Constitution Class refit. No originality what so ever.

@pytko3 Enterprise E ftw. I saw somebody say it was ugly, though. :( I think they're all beautiful. :D

Not a whole lot different from the beginning of Star Trek V in the beginning. LOL.

This has always been my favorite Star Trek movie. The only ones that can give it a run for its money are Wrath of Khan and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.
Either way, out of those three, this one has the best score.

What Jerry Goldsmith did for Star Trek as far as Music goes is what John Williams did for Star Wars. RIP Jerry.

I watched this movie at the theaters when it came out, and after that I went to watch Nemesis with the girl I loved so much back then...

DaddlerTheDalek 2 years ago 8
this was my favorite of all the star trek movies, and cementing the even = good movie thing about star trek. all though it had serious plot holes, it was the easiest to follow, great special effects and by far the best music. it was also the best TNG movie, with nemesis at number 2
johnadams8000 2 years ago 5
@johnadams8000 - yeah i agree, definately the best star trek film. I know nemesis was the finale but wish the they would make another one with the TNG cast.
ShadowKaine25 2 years ago 5
@ShadowKaine25 I know they managed to get a new kirk for the new film but i dont think there is anyway they could do TNG without Stewart and frakes
devildavin 1 year ago 2
nemesis at no. 2??? nemesis was full of plotholes. one is: a ships needs targeting wings and a scope with claws to hit a stationary target bigger than an aircraft carrier from 1 km away?
fajner1 2 years ago
This is by far the best Star Trek movie. And the series with the best music.
yapurehefty 2 years ago 56
I definitely agree on both counts: First Contact is easily the best Star Trek film and Goldsmith's score is the best Star Trek score yet!
uk6strings 2 years ago 44
@uk6strings after Horner's for ST 2, or are they a tie??

I thought this was Alot better than Inserection and Nemesis.

@samusaran11 i thought it was one of the best sci fi movies ever made...
mbenzsl2000 1 year ago
@yapurehefty i might agree with you if it had not had the stupid borg queen, the very idea of her was stupid and because of this movie we had to deal with her in voyager too.
sniperdude12a 1 year ago
@sniperdude12a Hey Voyager screwed a lot of things up. Don't criticize TNG for VOY's mistakes. She actually did make a little sense. She was the CPU or the motherboard. She was what kept everything moving smoothly. I think it was a mistake to call her a queen as she only seemed to be a supervisor then a leader.
forrestorocks 1 year ago 2
@forrestorocks The queen has been described as a Field Marshall for the borg. The real leaders of the collective, are species 001.
