  • Honor for the fallen

  • Splendid montage. Thanks for introducing me to this band and it was fun rewatching parts of this classic film

  • Great film, great operation. Lovatt's real life piper died today Bill Millen aged 88. We must never forget them.

  • they never lost the bridge ever, even though there were strong german attacks, the link up was made at mid morning (approx)

  • There's some right tools on here, the song is cracking so just enjoy fer chrissakes!

  • I hate montages....

  • great song.

  • Pointless.

  • i love this song so much "sur laderniere page du chaptire" love it :D!!

  • keddw, you came to listen to music on small outakes of a ww2 film? jog on, nob head! your gonna get comments, thats what this is for!

Add something constructive regarding the video, if you dont like the comments.....dont read them.

    You stupid cunt!

  • i think the nationality of JOE101SAIRBORNE shouldn't be an issue.

Ask the majority of people in the UK under 30 what happened on 6th June 1944, most probabably wouldn't even be able to point Normandy out on a map.

If JOE101STAIRBORNE is that interested in the exploits of Airborne soldiers why should it stay with the 101st & 82nd?

Why not look into what the German Airborne invasion of Crete and the lowlands?

OR the most famous of them all, the British 1st Airborne Division at Arnhem.

  • I came on here to listen to some music not to read idiotic, insensitive and ignorant comments. Mushsmith82 you need to sort yourself out.

  • there were no british paratroopers during the d-day assault and no glider troops either the british did'nt participate in the air assault on d-day

  • Think you need to re-read your history books mate. You'll find that the British 6th Airborne Division dropped into Normandy (the glider troops who took Pegasus Bridge were the 1st allied unit on French soil).

Then there was the Merville Battery, The Battle of Breville, Ranville.

So i'm afraid Airborne, you are wrong.

  • @MrSmudge8712 did not I've read all kinds of books none of them detail the british airborne even being part of it

  • Trust me my friend it happened! I've jumped on the DZ this summer, Visited the battle sites numerous times and i know Airborne D-Day Veterans.

Put any of these into your google search -

    Merville Battery.

    Pegasus Bridge.

    Battle of Breville.

    Richard Gale.

Nigel Poett (who was awarded the US silver star)

Hopefully thats enough for you mate. Any questions, just ask.

  • @joe101stairborne As a para myself and whose grandfather served in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (our family regiment) i can tell you categorically that British Paratroops did jump on D Day, and 2nd Bn Oxon Bucks were on board the Gliders that landed on Pegasus Bridge (in fact you will also find that Richard Todd who played John Howard in the film was actually in the landing as Lieutenant Todd all wearing Airborne uniform.

  • Respond to this video...You obviously have not read the right books my friend.

  • You may be a deliberate Troll, or misguided, or just plain stupid. British paratroops and glider troops played a major and glorious part on D-Day - in fact, they were the first troops to land in France. I am guessing that you are American, and young. Read your history and blush at your disrespect for so many brave British soldiers.

  • hem I respect the british but I am not a troll I'm not stupid and how come there are now records of the british participating in that air assault in all my timeline books and stuff i have about 10 timline books none of them record the british participating in that assault f they did how comes they're almost never mentioned

  • I have just looked at your YouTube profile. As I thought, you are a young American. Please understand that thousands of troops from Britain and other nations fought and died that day. You claim to be interested in parachute and glider history. Have you even bothered to follow up those links given by MrSmudge8712? If so, you cannot fail to realise that your comments are completely misguided. You would also add to your knowledge of amazing wartime feats by these brave young men.

  • I think it's funny to be having a serious conversation and then without laughing refer to someone named "mr smudge" as a serious reference. yes, someone named mr smudge must know his WWII history.i thought the irish liberated france....

  • @Frankieireland: His user name does not alter the fact that all the comments of MrSmudge8712 are historically accurate.

And,of course, the Irish nation played no part in the liberation of France. Despite the obvious dangers to civilisation posed by Nazi Germany in its aggression, Ireland chose not to oppose that vile regime but remained neutral throughout World War II. And when Hitler died, the Irish President deValera offered his condolences to the Nazis . . .

  • God I wasn't being serious but if you want a real reply: Dev didn't offer condolences to the Nazis but to the german ambassador in ireland, very different.Ireland remained neutral but gave huge assistance to the allied cause including handing back allied soldiers who accidentally ended up in ireland while interring their german counterparts.if you had been ruled by a country who still claimed dominion over part of your land who stole land from your ancestors, once you had got rid of them you

  • @renard801 Do not forget thousands of Irish from north and south served in the British forces and fought from 1939 to 45 and beyond

  • wouldn't welcome them back 20 years later.ireland fought fascism as hard as many - many irish died for the republic in spain while the brits gave franco support.funny that you should bring up fascism though....illegal war, illegal detention of people from a minority...oh yeah that's the germany of 1939....and the UK of 2009.learn to take a joke.

  • @Frankieireland: To be honest, I did think you were being serious in challenging MrSmudge's veracity, which is why I got a bit cross and tried a wind-up! It's just that I get annoyed at the continuous refusal of some Americans to acknowledge - or even know about - the part played by other nations on D-Day and subsequently. Yep, your comments about your country are entirely accurate, although I have never understood why deV did that after Hitler's death. Regards and respect to you.

  • @joe101stairborne

    ever hearth of pegasus bridge

  • Try using Google or better still go and buy "Pegasus Bridge June 6 1944" written by Stephen Ambrose. Published by Simon & Schuster: New York 1985, you know that American who wrote "Band of Brothers" and once mommy teaches you to read and not just lo look at the shiny pictures you may learn something. Next you will be telling me that a Canadian Parchute Battalion did not drop with the British 6th Airborne Division on D Day?. Try doing some proper research and keep off the PC games.

  • @simroy No. The canadians didn't have an airborne corps., at least to my knowledge, but they did land on juno alongside a british battalion.

  • @bestshowontheweb Yes i know the Canadians did not have an Airborne Corps? But 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion attached to Brigadier James Hills British 3rd Parachute Brigade, part of Major-General Richard 'windy' Gales British 6th Airborne Division did jump in on D Day. You are thinking of the assault on Juno beach by Major-General RF Kellers 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.

  • @simroy Do not forget the Battalion of Canadians who formed part of the 1st Special Service Brigade (The Devil's Brigade) were also Airborne Troops (2nd Canadian Para Bn originally i think) although they were employed in different areas

  • @carroj9 You appear to be confused? 1st Special Service Force (The Black Devil Brigade) formed with Canadian and US soldiers took part in operations in the Aleutian Islands, Kiska Anzio and the invasion of Southern France "Operation Dragoon" not the invasion of Normandy "Operation Overload". The British 1st Special Service Brigade commanded by Brigadier The Lord Lovat DSO, MC consisting of numbers 3,4,and 6 Commando (Army) and 45(RM) Commando did? Not the same formation, but easily confused?

  • @simroy No actually i was replying to the chap who said the Canadians had no paratroop forces

I am well aware of the different 1st Special Service units and operations thanks.

One of my uncles with with the commandos ashore on d day, and another with the paras on d day and at arnhem and the rhine crossing. My uncle was an Army commando in ww2 and a RM Commando post war

Thanks for the accurate response though.

  • aww...if a music want to tell u something u call itt emo? i didnt know it, thanks.

lets hate all the great music at all finestrata, ohio and other sick pple...:)

travis and this song are both perfect.

  • crap!

  • why do people take such great movies and then put such shitty music over it? this vid woulda been perfect but with the shitty emo music now its GARBAGE

  • Shitty emo music? Travis is hardly emo. Look up "emo" kid, and get with the pop culture.

  • they sound like james blunt with his balls cut off.

either way still a perfect clip ruined by bad music taste

  • The music sucks for such a event.

  • its a great song and a great event.i use "great"in 2 senses.

  • travis 4 ever

  • Good Video, But If I may recommend something, keep the clips the same, but change the music to Hero of the day By Metallica, the timing fits and suits the video a little more

  • Nice video, but the music really doesn't fit. No offense. :S

  • oh my god! that bridge looks EXACTLY!! like it did in call of duty 1!!

  • Blesse mon couer avec une langeur monotone...

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

    Click Click

  • wheres that scene I wanna see it!

  • @peterann1 Ruperts old chap, and there is one in the Airborne Forces museum which was at Aldershot

  • every nation would not win

    may against japan

but against germany they had to stay together

  • the yanks were late they had the reports of the concentration camps in early 1941 and the yanks didnt lift a finger ,england had the shit kicked out of it and the yanks just said sendem food thatl shut them up and then they attacked russia in september and north africa and the yanks did nothing then they sent more supplies knowing full well that they were gonna get sunk by U-Boats because the RN were spread to thin until finaly The Japanese bomb Pearl and even then it took 3 years 2 attack Lame

  • bad song....(for the video)

  • You all know nothing about war. So why not all shut up. A lot of people died in these years so why not just celebrate their lives with a lovely tune.

    Jonny

  • Were americans so good in ww2 as Hollowood argues? There were perhaps only two battles where americans had to fight without massive help from their air forces: Ardennes and Hurtgen. Both battles showed how scary the american infantry troops were in real action. The didn't ever so such fury and brutal willingness like Sovjet Red Army in their breakthroughs. No need to wonder why germans scared much more russians than soft americans.

  • americans sucked in both world wars. they intentionally sat around and wait until the enemy was virtually dead until they came for easy wealth. if they were smart and came earlier in both wars, we could of ended them in like 2 years.

  • First of all, whay should the US been involved in WWI?

It took the "Lusitania" to get us to even support the Allies and when it did become in our interest we DID become involved.

BTW, if the Europeans studied the American Civil War, you would have had some idea about the carnage of modern weapons like Petersburg and Cold Harbor. Instead the Brits ignored Grant's biggest mistake (in his own words) at Cold Harbo and cause the slaughter at the Somme.

    Don't blame us for that.

  • wow you guys are a bunch of hipacrits. you guys live in your own fairy tale world thinking you guys did everything. you guys barely did a thing that turned the tide. and you guys are the ones complaining that now we did not send extra forces to iraq. so yea as a matter of fact i will blame you guys since you guys bash us for not fighting your dumb dirty wars.

  • That's "hypocrit" ultradumbass (appropriate screen name). I don't think we turned the tide in WW2, but we did make a difference in the West. The reality is the Western (Canadian, UK, and U.S.) was secondary to the Soviet effort. That doesn't mean the Western Allies weren't brave, didn't make sacrifices, or didn't hurt Nazi Germany. It does mean that no Western nation won the war on their own.

  • you making fun of the commonwealth view of spelling? hmm, lets see here. first of all, you don't spell color, it is colour, you don't spell neighbor, it is neighbour, you don't spell harbor, it is harbour, and grey is grey not gray. so if anything i'd watch my tone if i were you. and even though western nations may of been "brave" in the war, does not make them the real winner. the soviets are, they got three quarters of europe, most of the middle east, and more than 90% of asia.

  • I'm not making fun of Commonwealth (note the use of the capital letter?) spelling. If you can cite a Commenwealth dictionary that justifies your lousy spelling and grammar, then please provide the title. As for the "soviets are"...the Soviet (there's that capital letter again) Union ceased to exist in 1991, in case you missed it. I question the control of "90%" of Asia. What Asian nations did they occupy? Please provide a source. Better yet, go back to school.

  • ummm i think you meant site and what kind of stupid diss is that? "please provide a source. better yet go back to school." ? what are you 5 or something? and i don't have to look around for a silly commonwealth dictionary, cause i know my stuff, and i don;t need to waste my time on a tub of lard like you. now if you'll excuse me, i am going to sleep, we will finish this tomorrow, and than we will read of you making stupid idotic comments of yourself. now sweet dreams child:P

  • i read ure posts on this site and i think ure absolutely right

(srry for bad spelling english is not my languidge:p)

  • well thank you for that compliment, i most appreciate your support in this debate:P

  • lol in ww1 the americans needed the good canadians to help them because the americans were too scared to win a war on their own. and does anyone thank canadians and the smaller nations for our sacrifices? umm no...so don't expect us to fight for the selfish american population.

  • @ultradumbass Interesting and sad fact is more americans died of influenza in ww1 than were killed in combat, flu is a more deadly disease than people imagine.

  • The war wouldnt be a World War if America didnt join. And what would you british do without us in asia? And the same for us Americans we would not win without you british. So, we both needed each others help.

  • Truth be known! India seeking independence sided with Japon and Germany. Motion picture 'Seven Years in Tibet' cites German presence in India. Motion picture series 'Jewel in the Crown' cites Indian participation with Japon.

We...US/Canada/Britain/Austrailia/New Zealand and so many others cooperated together to END a war....leaving behind a 'Iron Curtain.'

Winston Churchill was repeatedly disgraced until he said, "We will fight them in the streets."

  • @ConnorlBurnett The Americans were the only one who win in this war. No bullet were shot on the american soil. USA sold weapons both Allied troops and Natzi. Why did the remained neutral until 1944. WW2 was won by the USSR. 15 million soviet soldiers were kild in this war. How many americans did die in this war???

USA the greatest terorist bitch country in the world.

  • @ConnorlBurnett I woulndt dare to compare Normandy with Leningrad. Though I am Romanian, and we fought side by side with the Germans against the soviets in Leningrad (my grandfathers fought against USSR until 44 and from 44 side by side with the soviets).

  • the lcvp landing craft (higgins boats) weren't that big were they? They were said to be able to hold 32 men. does anyone know?

  • Correct. The landing craft actually used in the Normandy landings were much smaller than the ones used in this movie. I'm sure the reason was that it was easier to use modern day landing craft instead of resurrecting or constructing accurate higgins boats. Cheaper to use available resources.

  • higgins boats held a platoon, in this movie it looks like they hold a whole company

  • join the B.A.M.C be in one of our infantry divisions or the Elite send letter to potter1945

  • That glider assult by toddy was magnificent, men of men they were. Anyone know how long they held the bridge for? I know lovetts were involved at some stage, but cant remember the time scale.

  • i think the backup arrived the next day at noon. so they held the bridge for nearly 12 hours. but i'm know 100% sure...

  • I think it was about that. They landed just before midnight, I believe, and got relieved sometime before midday the day of the invasion. About 12 hours is a good approximation.

  • @23Eagle89 I've just finished a book on the glider assault and it was'nt until 48 hours later that D Company was releived by Lord Lovart's Commando Brigade

  • @Monocledmutineer1 About 2days they were holding that bridge i beleive now i could be wrong but i think thats it

  • @Monocledmutineer1 Magnificent operation by the "Oxs and Bucks". Lord Lovett's relief column arrived at around 1pm- just one hour late. His piper died just a few months ago. Quite a few German soldiers later said they had a clear shot at him, but said they decided not to shoot him, because they figured he was obviously a crazy man (crazy like a fox!!!)

  • Gosh, I loved Travis, just remembered them for some reason! Thanks a bunch! Also looking for 'Blue Flashing Lights'. What does 'tout ma vie' mean?

  • Yeah they're something else!:)It means all my life.

  • great video.

love the music and the scene.

  • thx =)

  • Saving Private Ryan is a good movie. But it glorifies the American invasion too much. This movie is awesome. It shows the contribution of all the allied forces, including the French resistance.

  • omg, every time i listen to this song i think of your video now. see, it´s all your fault! :-)

  • timing^^ häng grad mit JD rum und seh dein comment^^

  • hihi muss einfach ma antworten. XD aus prinzip. ^^ gute nacht dir, hdl! ;)

  • Hehe very sorry for that. XD i'll give you more vids! than you have to think of me everytime you listen to music! *lol* nice evening and don't wait for too long... ^^

  • ehm by the way, the guys taking the bridge are english paratroopers, not american! more precisely its the 6th Airborne.

nice vid by the way, far the best WW2-movie ever made, much better than that crappy, overpatriotic private ryan

  • thx for you comment. you're right, they are english soldiers. my mistake.

and yes, i agree with you, The Longest Day is the best. ^^

  • "Private Ryan" was not supposed to be a movie about D-Day, it was totally about one American unit's assignment to find another soldier, that happened to take place in Normanday in 1944.

I am sure there has been British movies made solely about the Pegasus Bridge battle or other isolated stories set with the Nornamdy invasion.

  • i love this song! it is awesome! i would like to find out what the words in french are, xxx

  • I just can say that everything is already said. but i love the video and i think the song is just perfectly chosen. by the way: make the other one, JD! *:P*

  • i´d like to second that: make the other one!

  • The ending is a thing where I totally agree with you. I was suprised how fast it comes. But I realized to late that I could have made one or two scenes a bit shorter.

    Thx for your comments! ^^

  • good job- though i also hold that the ending was too abrupt.

The song fit good to the pictures.

  • YAY!!! first comment! i think this was done very well. song and image go well with each other, though i think the ending was a little abrupt. like it, though.
