Sounds like an ok mic for the price but the omni-directional pickup pattern seems to be picking up a lot of room reverb. I just ordered an Audio Technica AT831b a few days ago and should be getting it soon....I think it's a far better mic as it is directional but the price is also quite a bit higher.
I am a drummer and I am wondering if I can use a lapel mic for singing backup live. A mic on the side limits my motion and I really don't want to use a headset.
We need 3 mics at three stations in a large carpeted room, about 40' by 40'. An amp/mixer and mic on the S side of the room, centered, and a mic on the E and W ends of the room. The mics on the E and W will have cable runs a distance of 50+ feet . The mics will be used infrequently. The powered mixer is aBehringer PMP 2000. A music shop recommended Audix OM2, but we can't handhold. Do you think the ATR-35S can do the job? Got a better suggestion?
Hello, I am also a musician, I play the accordion. I was thinking about buying an Audio-Technica ATR-35S for use in presentations. I wonder if you think this mic would be good for performances on stage? Thank you for your attention
The fact that the sound pops, renders this review useless, I know you say it's because of your sound card, but that's like me reviewing a camera and then telling you I've got some issue with my graphics card, pointless.
Nice demo, thanks for posting!!. can a musician use this mic on its insturment(such as a flute) while playing during a live performance if the mic is attach securely on the mouth piece of the insturment??
@knowledgeispowerfful I haven't actually tried it with an instrument, but since it is a small condenser I would think it would do very well. I use similar higher end mics for that kind of application and it works very well. As always, placement of the mic on the instrument is everything....and should be experimented with. Hope that helps.
...chords as well as all the clothing. I usually use Topsticks to tape the body of a lav literally to the right side of the chest, to avoid a heartbeat. Which sometimes occure. Well done video. I agree about the viewer perception of a better sounding video looking better.

Yeah it's sounds pretty good for the price I guess. Hmmm I wonder what's the issue with your audio card... It's sounds kind of like a cable of the mic is squished from time to time... Not too sure. Or maybe a if this mic uses a phantom power since it's a condenser mic is in some kind of trouble. Otherwise can't complain much about the quality. And yes there is a proximity effect even on a omni directional mic, because of the distance from you vocal...
Can someone please explain the difference between these two lapel mics. Audio-Technica's "ATR3350, ATR-35s" To me they look the same, but different model numbers and price.
Thanks for the tip. I'll be heading to the electronics store today to look for an mp3 player or reasonably priced digital recorder that has both an input and output. I'd like to be able to monitor the levels when recording as well.
nice review. if i'm recording with a digital camera on a tripod, how would I get the video recorded onto a device? My camera doesn't have a mic in so I'm a little concerned that if I need a second device just for audio, that it will be hard to edit later on.
If you record the audio on a different device say a portable recorder or directly into the computer it is relatively easy to sink audio if you use a slate or "clapper" if you don't have one you can simply clap your hands together so you have a visible peak in the audio. You can then sink that with where you physically see the slate come together. Hope that helps.
@StateofMindProdu What about audio drift? The video and audio throw themselves out of sync, in my case, every minute or so - tested on multiple computers. Audio drift correction is very cumbersome and can take ages. Wondering here if you've had an issue with this.
@johnreagannumber1 I havnt had an issues like that. We have shot out new feature film on an XH-A1. We have used a Zoom H4N with a boom mic to record audio in cases where we need the camera on a steadicam or something mobile. So far there have been no issues. What is your setup?
One possibility is to use something like an Olympus WS-500M with the ME-15 microphone- about $125 for both. This gives you a "dual sound system." Clap your hands when both recorder and camera are running to have a start point. You can also do this ad the end. You can use the free Audacity program to edit the sound. The file will be WMA so you need to convert it to WAV- Adobe Premiere Elements will do this. In your editor align the clap marks. Mute the camera sound.
@shovland In my experience, using the 'clapping / dual sound system' you mention, I've had audio drift problems that throw the video out of sync with the voice. Seems to be a common problem in fact for many. Drift correction is very cumbersome and takes ages. Wondering if you've had success with this method. I too use audacity or Sony Vegas' timeline for audio.
wait sorry...the microhpone in the video....is that the same microphone in the link? Because I'm really interested in this but only if it hooks up to the computer...is that a possibility?
would this pick up say both voices of a convosations between 2 people talking 5 feet or less away from eachother

Did the 35S model come out after the ATR-3350, or is the 3350 the latest?

Is there a similar priced and working lav mic with a mute button? The on off causes a pop when I want to mute.
