It's none of their business. The only legitimate interest government has is in the bundle of rights (property rights, medical access, etc.) that goes with it. So then why not just amend the marriage laws to say two consenting adults instead of man and woman? That will not force churches to perform same sex ceremonies. I'm not sure why I got thumbs-downed, either. I'm not opposed to equality. I'm only saying that legalizing gay marriage is a step in the wrong direction because in my opinion NO marriage should be "legal" in the first place. I'm quite opposed to anyone who says that gays can marry and straights can't, or banning anyone's consentual marriage. But it should not even be a legal battle to begin with.

The real problem is that gov't should not be involved in giving favors for being married or being single. Income taxes cause all of this mess and the FairTax would go a long way toward eliminating this issue. Marriage should be a religious institution not a somthing controled by the govt.

The reason married people get tax breaks is because the government knows that giving people a break that give back to society is good business. Mother+Father=Potential Responsible Child; Responsible child=1 more taxpayer. Man+Man=no taxpayer. Woman+Woman=no taxpayer.

My husband and I and many other people that we know are standing side by side with our gay friends and family on this issue. And we're not going anywhere.
