  • If people need to vent to Youtube, its okay people (: lets just all agree that Jack Johnson is the man.

  • Peace

  • Stop typing paragraphs. Enjoy the music. Peace.

  • @DearMia0 Sorry, but it's a thought provoking piece with a nice groove on top of it.

  • real patriotism is knowing when something is wrong and getting the message out for people to wake up and change it.

  • faggots

    faggots

  • @thetoddtimedotnet I'm not going to curse at you because i would feel guilty on Jack Johnson's song, but please, leave the unnecessary comments out, have dignity and respect for who's song your on. Thank-you.

  • faggots

  • youre all faggots. youtubes not a fuckin diary

  • Im in agreement w/ KingDavid478. People just start going auto-pilot through their lives due to doing the same damn thing, materialism, and treating life like a process. Treat Life like an adventure, enjoy this short, but sweet, for certain life.

  • this is the messiah

  • And No. Im American and what they title me as Caucasian, And even I know God Isnt American or white. And Jesus, he is from the house of Judah. So that means he was a Jew. Come on ppl please dont let racism, a government tool to tear us apart, actually work. There are so many of us and so little of them. Please quit sleeping through the static . Wake up and realize we have to Unite to overthrow this tyranny and regain a sense of peace, liberty and soverignty.

  • @KingDavid478 king David sound Jewish. ( don't worry I'm Jewish too)

  • It doesnt matter what religion. This song isnt even about religion. He's saying ppl are asleep. The "God wears camoflauge" line is probably meaning that ppl are so materialistic that one would make that assumption. Ppl got to wake up and look at how corrupt your government really is. They want all of us dead. They are killing millions everyday. But you keep worrying about the Steelers, Miley Cyrus, the newest Nike, Your best friends facebook post, and CallofDutyMW3. sleep through static

  • @KingDavid478 your so good at this

  • trolololol "intellectual" religious discussions. jack johnson would be disappoint. :P

  • @20thcenturygod,

maybe it's saying that god is someone that we see as powerful here on earth. He wears camo & drives a dodge.. but maybe it's supposed to tell us that the people that we see as "powerful" (like god, or people we consider GOD-LIKE;) ex: "popular people) have a soft side too, they cry at night, but they have a rough exterior.

  • jack johnson for president

  • in iraq there god wheres a turban, here in texas god wheres some boots, jeans and a cowboy hat, and in china he wears whatever the fuck they wear, hes saying we think he looks a certain way and noone else can say different

  • just cash in your blanks for little toy tanks (8) just soo amazing

  • I love how he flows from one line to the next. Like when he says "God wears camouflage, cries at night, drives a Dodge, <--PICKUP the beat..." Lyrical genius, really.

  • He talks about being force-fed the truth, and the truth being "what we say not what we do". Continuing in the "we" voice, he talks about God "wearing camouflage" and "driving a Dodge".

If you still don't know who he's talking about, it's the warmongering right and their religious overtones. The whole song is obviously anti-war, but more to the point anti-jingoism and against the idiotic right-wing, war loving mindset.

  • @John37001 Force fed the truth is the government deciding what your reality is my friend. And "do as we say not as we do" that one is pretty obvious. And the line about god, America says " One Nation Under God" as our founding fathers who were free masons said, Then god must wear camo because we send thousands of sacrifces overseas to ride in dodges and kill millions more. This song isnt Anti anything, its merely, WAKE THE HELL UP, in a nice monotone.

  • I like how all of his songs are like a story he doesnt really repeat many parts

  • Vom Album?

  • smoke through the static

  • Great song. Great message. Saw Jack Johnson at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. One of the better shows I've ever been to.

  • This is the definition of Music.

  • The god thing. I always heard this song and esp the God lines particularly as a satirical song, like 'take the picture from the pretty side'. So I always heard it as though God was being treated in a sarcastic way, as in how is this 'wonderful world' he 'created' helping anyone or doing anything when treated in the way this song is talking about.

  • Personally, (I am Christian myself) think that this line tries to make God seem more human, tangible, and realistic. Like someone said before, someone does all three things mentioned in this bit. But if the mention of "God" in a GREAT song offends you so much, make sure you never say "Oh my god," "Jesus!" or any religious reference. And then you won't be a hypocrite, and you can come talk to me. Great song, nough said.

  • deff my favorite.

  • You don't have to beleive in god to LOVE this song :D

  • i feel bad for 20thcenturygod. his inbox must be spammed of people trying to explain it to him

  • Music speaks the truth, u just have to be able to see it :)

  • I never mind when this song is in my head

  • America is stewped.

  • sweet song :) love it

  • The lyrics are exactly what you need them to be. I just got out of the army, and I take this song as an insightful shot at the war. Great song.....

  • it has been a long time since music actually made me feel somethin.......

and by something I mean a LOT !!!!!

  • Love this song!

i say no religion or countries

what ever happens after death will happen, but don't worry about it

So many people worry about the specifics that they forget the big picture.

  • the man is a god saw him live two years ago....peace x

  • Jack Johnson is an amazing artist, he speaks it the way I see it. But JAck, stop preeching like its already over! If you preech like its over, then its over, but its not. We've got a long life to live and a lot of love to give.

  • its about building bridges of love and that in it!?

  • Kristi, yes people in Iraq do believe in the same God as us, actually. Jews, Christians Muslims all believe in an Abrahamic God from the Old Testament. Dont mean to preach, it just frustrates me to see religious ignorance. Peace.

  • thats half true, the believe in the idea of the "abrahamic god" and christians believe in Gods word. Jews believe in old testament beliefs which is wrong because God sent his son. And muslisms believe and respect the Lord but praise ala who they believe to be related or another form of the "abrahamic god"

  • @mischiefking Its alllll for the oil!

  • @mischiefking Religious ignorance is the same thing as ignorance. Don't mean to correct, it just frustrates me to see religion.. period...

  • @mischiefking , after listening to this song, I think it's clear that God's a singer!

  • @mischiefking Muslims follow a different god. Christians and Jews follow God. There's a difference.

  • @SwaffyX allah=god. same god, different way of worship and different book of faith. all are abrahamic religions, out of judaism came christianity and out of christianity came islam. learn your shit before posting/judging.

  • @JPJakCruz I hate malis and jews. #just saying

  • @DOUBLEDEZZY and I hate obnoxious douchebags that stereotype and discriminate people due to there race. People are people, and as long as people like you live on earth there will never be peace. It's a sad truth but one that we must accept. I hate posting a hate comment like this on song by the most chill artist ever but it had to be said. Treat people with an open mind, just because someone is of a certain race doesn't make them a bad person. Grow up.

  • @mischiefking actually to correct you body, Islam doesn't believe in the same God, which is odd seeming as Judaism and Islam derive from the same ancestor. However Christianity and Jews believe in the same God mostly. Christians believe in a Holy trinity, and Jews believe that the saviour hasn't come yet so only believe in God the favor.

  • @timmehtimmehtimmehti Allah is their word for God, they believe in the Torah just as Jews and Christians do.Jews/Christians/Muslims all believe in Adam&Eve, Moses & God. Christians AND Muslims believe that Jesus came and preached the word of God. Christians believe Jesus WAS God, while Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, but both believe in the miracles of Jesus. Additionally, Muslims believe later that another greater prophet (Muhammad) came along to preach God's word. That's basically it.

  • @mischiefking Yh I agree bro, but can't you see that you've just contradicted yourself? Muslims believe that Jesus was a minor prophet, were as Christians believe that Jesus was God and Jews just don't believe in Jesus at all. Therefore they believe in a different God. As well as this if you asked Jews, Muslims and Christians to describe their Gods you would get something completely different, Jews and Christians would describe an intimate father and son like relationship were as Muslims wouldnt

  • @timmehtimmehtimmehti Yes, if you ask a Catholic or Lutheran about God, they would describe a loving and intimate Father, while Baptists and Pentecostals would describe a vengeful and angry God, so I guess Baptists don't worship a Christian God either? What about Mormans, who believe another prophet came along after Jesus to peach God's word? The 3 major religions just have different views of what happened after Moses and David, they agree on nearly everything up until that point including God

  • @mischiefking Actually you got that wrong about Baptists, they holdone of the most liberal view on God and would definitely describe there relationship with God as an intimate father-son relationship and also Pentecosts believe in a loving, forgiving God who can forgive their sins, one completely different to Allah. Mormans however call themselves Christians, other Christians disagree with them and not describe them as Christians...

  • @timmehtimmehtimmehti you've never been to a southern baptist church service.

  • @mischiefking No I'm pretty sure I have as I used to be a baptist my friend.

  • @mischiefking ... seeming as the new testament warns against false prophets leading people away from Christianity. But what you say about the 3 major religions agreeing up to Moses I agree with on that.

  • It's about trying to keep peace..he's talking about the war..and he is not downing God in way..not everyone believes in the same God..and in Iraq they don't believe in our God..he says that is no way to treat a man of me..and the feast..and that's that..

  • Such a beautiful song! But what means: I hated everybody said the sun

  • fuckin great song

  • jack mofo johnson <3333333

  • he means that god is a soulja

"God Wears camoflauge" - Army Clothing

"Cries at night" - Most souljas cry at night thinkin about who && what they have left behind

"Drives a Dodge" - a metaphore t make god sound high up

  • Completely wrong. And what the hell is a "Soulja"?

  • Soldier. lol

  • rofl

  • Oops wrong vid to coment on - anyway i love this song wen i rule the galaxy i will spare jack johnson and his fans :)

  • weiiiiiirddddd..........

  • ok ty anyway :)

  • no i mean wat does it mean that god wears camouflage cries at night and drives a dodge ?

  • i dont know..

  • ok thanks anyway :) subscribed

  • @FlipsterR10 idk if this makes sense, but what im thinking is that, he's the creator but he fucks shit up too

  • @FlipsterR10

it means god is just like the rest of us, and is in all of us...he;s a soldier, a person crying alone at night, or just your average joe. you don't have to be perfect to have god. you don't have to go to church to find it. it's everywhere...at least thats how i see it. :o)

  • It is facetious. He is suggesting that people who support war believe God is a violent ethno-centric American war monger. He is trying to make the point that you can love your country, appreciate those who have died for it, but believe it to be in vain/wrong in the current conflict in the Mid East. Thousands of husbands/wives/mothers/fathers have fallen in that part of the world, and for what?I most certainly do not feel more secure since invading Iraq on false pre-tenses.

  • @20thcenturygod he's relatable

  • @20thcenturygod maybe hes saying that god is only the reflection of who we are. and thats like a stereotypeof the average american... just maybe, I don't know

  • @20thcenturygod

In my understanding, it means that he hides who he is, and that he's ashamed for it, the dodge is there for a symbol of power. Translated, It basicly means, that the rich hide themselves with their money, because their ashamed of who they are.

  • @20thcenturygod it means that God is as human as we are

  • @20thcenturygod The way I see it, the whole song is about our (America) participation in the war overseas. You can go through the lyrics and it all makes sense. He basically says that America sees itself as this super power and that we can do and go anywhere we want ("and strike the fear of God") with our army of regular citizens who "wear camouflage, cry at night, and drives a dodge". He makes a lot of allusions to the war in Iraq if you really dissect the song.

  • @20thcenturygod he's saying that God is among us, in disguise. just as normal as you and I, cries, feels pain etc just like us. at least thats what i make of it

  • @20thcenturygod it means that god can relate to our problems better than we know

  • @20thcenturygod God is everywhere, he can be a random person watching you that you would have never thought of, and you never notice him. thats what it means...

  • @20thcenturygod war. he means war.

  • @20thcenturygod its sounds sexy. it probably doesnt have a meaning. and most likely doesnt :D

  • @20thcenturygod I think that bit means that God is a part of everyone, since someone wears camoflage, someone cries at night, and someone drives a dodge. Therefore, that would mean that God wears camo, God cries at night, and God drives a dodge.

  • @20thcenturygod

Of course all music is left to interpretation but to me, the song seems to be talking about the USA and basically how we've become this big world power by bullying and discriminating against other countries. So, the line is stating that we're (USA) right for everything we've done wrong to other countries because God drives a dodge (AKA He supports the USA and is American). **Jack Johnson was trying to say that we use our God as an excuse to persecute other people.

  • @20thcenturygod It means god's a hick. It means, God is America's.

  • @20thcenturygod its talkin bout god bein a redneck or somethin...i think

  • @20thcenturygod Hes meaning thats our opinion we think were humble when we arent. In basic words =)

  • @20thcenturygod

I personally see "god wears camouflage, cries at night, drives a dodge" to mean god can be anyone and everyone, it's in you, and it's what you make it. the line has three arbitrary things, one might make you think of southern tough guys, one a desperate single mother, and a regular middle class surbubia dweller. (those are just what i picture those as, which may be different than anyone else's interpretation... ah the beauty of ambiguity.)

  • @20thcenturygod Possibly referring to southern people being religious and driving dodge pickups? Or something about how he's in disguise.

  • @20thcenturygod The best part of music is that each person has a different interpretation of the music, and there is no "right" interpretation, it's just what it means to you. However, this, to me, is saying that God does not favor or only love Americans. Jack Johnson is saying that we wear war, essentially, and we cry at night as in we often feel sorry for ourselves, and of course Dodge is associated with America. He says that we shouldn't feel like God favors America over everybody else.

  • @20thcenturygod It just means that christianity is big in the south. Like hilbillies and so Gods become a hillbilly symbol

  • @20thcenturygod there quotes from the bible....

  • @20thcenturygod i think hes saying we all in america think gods an american, so we dont care about africa or china or iraq because gods not like them, hes like us and drives a pickup. I disagree with that but most americans do look at it that way if even self consciously. gods not gana dress like an african or an iraqi because thats not what we want him to look like.

  • @20thcenturygod You can't see God (camo). He cries at night (Because that's when a majority of people pray and he's getting pelted left and right with cries for change) and he drives a dodge (He's in all of us. We're in his image. Symbolic..)

  • @20thcenturygod it means that we're making war our idol, and replacing violence and our own selfish desires. Soldiers are known to cry at night and the army uses dodge vehicles

  • @20thcenturygod making fun of american ppl is my guess

  • @20thcenturygod

I think it is a refrence to christian america. About how we invade countries, wrongfully, but we say it is of God's will. Dodge is an american made car so I think thats how it ties it to america. Not sure if it's right just my insight on the matter.

  • @20thcenturygod I think he's saying God is hiding "wears camouflage" and drives a "dodge", and the fact that he cries at night suggests the wrong-doings in the world.

  • @20thcenturygod its saying hes just like every other person.

  • awsome song - awsome lyrics . . . but i dont get the bit about god wearin camo and drives a dodge ?

  • We say anytime, anywhere, just show your teeth and strike the fear

Of god wears camouflage, cries at night and drives a dodge ;)

  • @FlipsterR10 pickup the beat :)

  • @FlipsterR10 I think he's saying that god is just like us

  • @20thcenturygod hes tlkin about the stereotypical visoin ppl get when they think of christianity......hes sayin tht ppl need to look past stereotypes

  • @20thcenturygod WAR. he means WAR. it's not that hard.

  • @20thcenturygod well, my best guess is that god crys for us and the "drives a dodge" im guess means hes there and he's looking for people to save, but nobody graded his outstreched hand to put them up out of sin and hate

  • I love this song too. Yeah they really are amazing. I love it so much!

  • Oh, I love this song. The lyrics are so amazing, especially when you actually listen to them.
