I don't handle them much, just to move them into a better position when I'm trying to feed or photograph them, or when I clean their tank. I feed them earthworms 2-3 times a week, & slugs and waxworms as treats. The bright colors on newts and salamanders do signify their toxicity; but you can pick them up occasionally and it's fine. Wash your hands afterwards, though, and don't pick them up if you have broken skin. And for god's sake, don't eat them! :}
