damn,he was on fire,no one could ever stop him.his heights is 6'6 solid, he usually told he's 6'4 to made his rebound capability look great and unbelievable
@easybehave Wrong some players are not listed by their real heights. In his case he was listed at 6`6 in order to create creadibility for a forward. Him and Jordan listed at 6`4 3/4 in the olympics and that is like 6`5 1/2 with shoes on. So Karl Malone was 6`9 legit, Garnett is over 7`0, Duncan is 6`11. Hakeem was 6`10 not 7´0 as listed. @easybehave he's 6' 4 and a half, tool...look at marjerle next to him who's 6'6" he towers over him..or is majerle really 6' 9" (' and is lying too...they lie the OTHER way around, know it all...and secondly I have met Charles several times and I'm 6'2" and we were basically the same height.....I live in Scottsdale and he came into the Health and racket club where I worked...a really down to earth nice guy EVERYONE loved him..so NO he isn't nowhere NEAR 6'6" knucklehead
16th ALL time in rebounding in the NBA while only barely taller than 6' 4"...almost everyone above him is pushing 7 foot....and can any of them have this outside game as well?????...you now see why Barkley is in the NBA's top 50 of all time....
@Hoopfanify Easily. Look at career stats and especially the assists section. Malone had a longer career but longevity doesn't mean you are better. Malone was a worse rebounder, worse one-on-one scorer, and much worse passer. He did have John Stockton which helped quite a lot too. In their primes it was no contest, Barkley all the way.
hi Pradamaster, I'm trying to enhance my jumping ability by doing the training course over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com - and so far got like past 8-10 inches so far but I m even now a bit off from dunking on the rim It s still my 2nd week thus far, any advices?
Pradamaster, is 5 7, American and can dunk. Wtf you mean white guys can't dunk? It's just about the training people do to get their particular leg strength to be strong enough to dunk. However for me, I personally used the exercising program over at "50inch vertical [dot] com"
5:41 Sir Charles pulls out his pistol and shoots the warriors dead...after the smoke clears 56 shots were fired...no survivors...34 was a bad muthafucka when the NBA was still deep
Well Chuck never got a ring--will not get the street cred. as a result, but I believe he perhaps could be the best one-on-one player that has ever played--who could stop him--A power forward in a small forward's body, with the skill set of a guard and the attitude of a center-- If chuck destroyed the likes of Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Charles Oakley--he would kill Ron Artest--just shows how dumb this guy is for ripping on Chuck--
@Odyss666: You must know Chuck has the highest 2-point FG% of all time after Shaq. If you don´t double team him in the mid range region ur dead cause he will just pass of to open shooters
Thats what happens when you don´t double team Barkley from the mid range 11/11 1st Quarter :). Nelson said i won´t double team him so the results go like that if you don´t double him and this was the calm less athletic Sir Charles. Not the one in the Sixers. Remember that.
@addycorp2 ron Artest is a 13 year old trapped in a grown man's body. just a complete idiot. people think he 's "eccentric" but all of it stems from how stupid heis. So fuck his opinion, basically
sure you can still play in your earl 30s, remember dream, jordan, malone, barkley, clyde, payton, shaq, all dominated in there early 30s, ball players dont seem to play as smart now days!!
5 stars and favorited!! what a game by charles!!! he had it all...the stength, the shot, the fundamentals, the leadership... everything... and if it went to double overtime, he would have broken the playoff points record for sure!
His Best Years Was When he Was with the Sixers and then second to the Suns. In the 1994-95 season his back was giving up and was to retire but Ainge convinced him not to. In the Rockets he played more like a Role Player and Rebounder but he wasn`t a shell of himself: he no longer at the speed, leap, potence, agility and smoothness. Well if you are 6`4/6`5 and play PF someday that will show up on your joints, knees and back indeed. His Prime from 1985 to 1995 was unreal though
In this game he didn`t even battle like in his physical prime he was just settling for jumpers, spins, relaxed and control not even close to his beasty self. A pissed and angry Charles is something else: Get the Fuck Out of the Way Its My Ball!
This was 1994- this was his prime- he wasn't settling for those jumpers- they were going in so that's what he went for. When you don't miss a single shot in the first quarter off 8-10 ft jump shots, you'd be settling if you tried to get in close to the hoop- you do what works. His jumper was hot, so he stuck with it.
What have you done that you can tell Charles Barkley that he was settling for outside shots?
Its not your physical prime when you are 31 but when you are 18-28, at best 28. It was his game prime ofcourse and still "physically suited" but not his physical prime at all.
thats just the nba perspective though once your around 30-32 your out of your prime automaticly i hate that theory and it really isnt true lots of players played great at 30+
You can still play just not as good. The skills stay, the fundamentals stay, the witts and experience are even better but the legs, the potence, the leap, the agility, the joints, the knees, the back etc of things don`t respond the same anymore and in Barkley`s case he relied alot on his leggs, agility, leap and potence. A 22-32 year old Chuck was just out of this planet, a beats! Here he is playing relaxed and not pissed, in his earlier Phily Days when he was pissed it was just unreal.
Charles was so much better than Duncan that its not even reasonable to think that Duncan is better. If Duncan didnt have any rings no one would even think of saying it. Its a question of what PLAYER is better not what TEAM is better. And im pretty sure Barkley's Suns would take it to Duncans Spurs any day of the week anyway.
While I agree with this, Barkley himself gives props to Duncan as being the best PF ever differnce is Barkley had an all around game nd Duncan doesn't so I'd give the edge to Barkley...pretty much Barkley in his prime would dominate and intimdiate Duncan in his.
What about Floor Defense? Duncan is not agil or quick enough to guard anything away from the Post. Barkley could guard Shaq in his prime I`ve seen it live take him out the post. He was lazy but he could Play D when he wanted any day: Only PF to average 2.2 SPG + 1.5 BPG for a season. Also Offensivey, Passing, Game Creating Wise, Scoring Wise, FG% is SO MUCH ABOVE DUNCAN its Laughable. Ofcourse Duncan has had the Best casts after Bryant, One of the Luckiest NBA Superstars Ever, unlike Sir Charles
Ace knows the only big forward I put ahead of Chuck is Kevin McHale (because he does the things I need from the big forward position, not because he's necessarily better) , although if I'm starting a franchise ... I choose Charley. The only thing Duncan has on Charles is interior defense. Chuck was a better ball-handler, % shooter (it's not even close AND DUNCAN IS 7 INCHES TALLER!) , better rebounder, better passer, better outside shooter, he played the game with more passion & desire ...
... .THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PLAYER LIKE CHARLES, a 6'4" (most off guards r taller) FRONT COURT player (he could play both 3 & 4) who could dominate both backboards (offensive & defensive) while score N THE PAINT at a high $? ONLY ARTIS GILMORE HAS A HIGHER 2 POINT% N LEAGUE HISTORY THAN CHARLES BARKLEY! The only thing Duncan really has on Charles is he's had a superior supporting cast 2 play with THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, that's it!
Exactly no prob if you choose McHale and have the right players for him its good too but if Barkley played with a Great Passing Fast Paced Team like the 80s Lakers, 80s Mavs or a Balanced 80s Bucks, Blazers or Cavs with a Center to anchor D and the whole offfense sorrunding Charles off the paint, in the break and on the pait no contest. Yup, I almost cry when watching Barkley play. I consider all players today pussies with no heart. Nothing like the oldschool 80s players and draft legends!
Barkley was really at his best in the open court. As good as he was in the half-court, Barkley was all but unstoppable in transition. Probably the greatest finisher ever. Barkley lead both the '92 & '96 Olympic teams in scoring. With crews that good & big guys who could handle the defensive boards Charles was able to concentrate on running the wing, working the offensive boards & terrorizing Angolans.
I'm not a Jordan hater but 2 me this is the greatest PLAYOFF SCORING PERFORMANCE EVER. Mike did score more, & has the record of 63 pts vs. the Celtics n 1986 BUT IT TOOK HIM 6 QTRS 2 GET HIS 63 PTS, IT TOOK CHARLES JUST THE REGULAR 4 QTRS 2 GET 56 PTS, & MJ shot 22-41 vs. Boston whereas Chuck shot a blistering 23-31 (!) from the field & 3-4 from 3pt land. Toss in 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals & 1 blocked shot & you've got 1 of the all-time great performances n playoff history.
Ofcourse it had to be a person that saw the NBA in the Golden 80s that speaks this and not all these kids of today that saw a crippled and overweight Charles in Houston...that has nothing to do with the REAL SIR CHARLES when healthy in Phily and Phoneix. Amen!
Charles Barkley is the 2nd player after the great Wilt Chamberlain to compile 23,000 points , 12,000 rebounds and 4500 assists. and he was just about 6,4. and he missed games too due to injury. Imagine if he played those missed games... =) Malone was the 3rd player to compile that feat. Malone got it way way after Barkley. As of now only Chamberlain, Barkley and Malone achieved that feat!!!
Garnett is a 1st round playoff superstar. he is overrated. he needed sprewell and cassell just to make 2nd round. he needed paul pierce and ray allen to pass second round. alone he is just a 1st round playoff superstar. infairness to garnett, he was a fan of barkley when he was in HS. he said one time when he greeted charles happy birthday, "I grew up watching Barkley play." his no. in HS was 34. Charles Barkley's no.
6`6 powered Larry Johnson, 6`9 Chris Webber, 6`11 Vin Baker etc of great PFs that actually could handle the ball unlike today`s Centers forced to play PF. Let me remined you he also destroyed Duncan and Garnett when he was crippled with back and knee problems way passed his prime at ages 34 to 36 while Duncan and Garnett where in perfect healthy conditions and in their physical primes at ages 21 to 23. Today`s NBA is shit compared to the 80s and early 90s.
Barkley`s PF competition: Cummings 6`8 built like a rock with guard handles, McHale 6`10 with 8ft winspam whom had more Talent and Post Game than Duncan could dream of having, Ralph Sampson a 7`4 FC that had the handles + speed of a SF, Larry Nance 6`10, John Salley 6`11, Roy Tarpley 6`11 (a better version of Garnett before his drug issues), Kevin Willis 7`0 PF, Rodman 6`6 1/2 but the best 1 on 1 Defender in the League capable of guarding SFs to PFs, 6`10 Derrick Coleman, 6`10 Shawn Kemp, Oakley
Tarpley only played in 280 games and never averaged more than 20.4 points a game, and that was in a season where he only played 5 games!!! Salley never had a season with more than 10 ppg or 7 rebpg, so i don't know why you even mention him. Oakley, Willis and Nance were good, but not as good as Garnett, Webber Nowitzki, Brand or Jermaine O'neal for that sake. Coleman and Kemp were very talented, but they only had 2-3 seasons as star players, and Sampson was only great before Barkleys prime
Barkley also played against Garnett and Duncan and took the too school as an old aging overweight knee and back crippled 34 and 36 year old. When Barkley could run lik the wind it would have been even more laughable.
He would destroy today`s league with no handchecking on him. There aint no PF now that has that mix of Skill-Speed-Strength-Ball Handling-Power-Agressiveness going to the Basket. Barkley loved to be guarded by 6`10 + plus PFs it was easier for him. He rather be guarded by those types than the Dennis Rodman types because of his lower center of gravity and ball handles. He was guarded by David Robinson in 93 & Hakeem in 94-95 they could not stop him. He schooled Duncan & Garnett while crippled too
This was a really good team. I think the backcourt was superior with KJ & Majerle, they had Barkley, some good swingman types through the years (Ceballos, Dumas) ... the soft spot was in the middle. Still, in many other years, this team would've been championship caliber.
man if only Amare Stoudemire would assert himself like Barkley did... Amare is so freaking soft man. With his height and athleticism he should be getting 15-20 boards every freaking night.
Greatest Powwerforward Ever! He is just walking the court and schooling the whole Frontline. If he was pissed off he`d get the whole frontline fouled out. Nobody could stop a Prime Charles Barkley...
i think barkley was a little hot this whole series bekause around this time chris webber had kame out wit that nike kommercial where dunked on barkley.
He is not even playing hard, using his athleticism (the speed, power & leap he had in the 80s). He is just toying with Gatling, Houston & Webber with a set of in ur face fadeaways, spin moves, layups and 3s Ha!. Look at 2.07-2.10 forcing the steal with his witts Ha!. At 1.48-1.54 amazing the timing for the offensive rebound firstly running with the ideal speed & creating his jumping angle knowing that it was a mis way before the shot. We don`t see this kind off WHOLE COURT DOMINATION Anymore :(
Has anyone realized Charles is schooling not even relying his scores in the athleticism he had back in his 20s or his 39 inch vertical leap?. Neither is he crashing the boards or playing as hard as could when he was pissed. He is just playing with the whole Warrior squad like if they where puppets HaHa. Bring Another one to Guard Me, Another One. "No Single Person can Guard me the Whole Game" :)
There has never been, and will never be anyone like Charles Barkley. He was definitely one of the best rebounders of all-time. He was so under-sized for a power forward, yet he effectively guarded everyone from Karl Malone to Shaquille O'Neal. On the offensive end, he could handle the ball like a guard, back anyone down, face-up and drive, or shoot the jumper. Chuck played the game with as much heart as anyone. Charles is one of the most unique players to ever play the game of basketball.
Did you all see how many players the Warriors kept rotating on Charles before each got fouled out? That was the common when Charles played: he was guarded by atleast 3 different players every game.
arkade, we're all entitled to our own opinions (I'm about to contradict myself here), but do us all a favor, AND DON'T EVER COMPARE NASH AND STOUDAMIRE'S SUNS TO THE KJ AND BARKLEY VERSION, PLEASE MAN! If Nash can't handle Jason Terry (who torched him in '06 playoffs) and Tony Parker (who torches him seemingly every year in the playoffs) , Kevin Johnson would rip his skull and spinal column from his back like the Predator (sorry, I lost it for a second ... I'm back now) ! Uh, what was I saying?
Its ez to forget w/his lively personality, but Barkley (when he wanted to) could dominate just about any game.
Oh and kids if u want to see how not to close out in a game just look at Latrell Sprewell at 1:30 LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
And thats getting paid millions of dollars a year and in a playoff game n he's pullin that bull. I hope God straightens that mess out someday cause thats just not right.
Charles Barkley has the Highest 2-Point FG% Ever! For a: "Go To Go Guy" or 1st Scoring Otpion and at 20 PPG Plus.
All Time 2-Point FG%:
Season: 20,6 PPG (58.13% FG)
Play-Offs 21.5 PPG (55.13% FG)
All This While Playing In Pathetic Teams. Man If a Prime Charles Had Stockton and Played in a Fast Break Game, Or David Robinson-Parker- Ginobili, Or Bird-Parish-DJ-Waltom Fuck His Stats Would be Insane Not To Mention his FG%!
I like Barkley like most people here, and I definently think he's a top 3 PF of all time, but it's just ridiculous to assume that he's stats would be higher if he had played on better teams. When you play on a good team, you don't have to rely on one player as much as you have to on a bad team. Therefore his stats would've probably declined if he'd played on better teams, with FG% being the only exception to that
Barkley played as an overweight rookie with an aging Dr J and Moses Malone (Cheeks and Jones) some where obviously passed their prime but even then his stats where amazing. But also they where even more amazing from 1986 to 92 when he played alone and destroyed the whole league. A Prime Barkley would destroy in today`s league. No handchecking on Barklye in every offensive play is suicide no wonder Barkleyt destroyed the olympics and laughs at zone defenses. Best PF Ever Best Olympic Plyer Eva!
Thank you, you just proved my point. His stats were at it's best when he was the only good player on his team because his team relyed almost only on him. The same goes for Garnett as i've already mentioned. I don't know if Barkley would have dominated more in todays game, because the depth at the PF-position is better in todays game and he will have to go up against 6-10 to 7 footers every night, not just occasionaly as in his prime
Listen dude Barkley`s steals and blocks per game was better when he was playing with Dr J, Moses and the rest of the aging crew and his rebounding stayed practically the same up until 86-87 (and that was with Moses on the team!). Lets also remember that Barkley was not the focal scorer up untill the 86-87 season (finally the coach used him correctly as he mentions in his book) and after that he even shot higher from the FG as a lonesome player from 86-92.
Barkley in his prime would still dominate hands down. There are very few physical freaks in the NBA; Shaq, Barkley and Iverson who can do so much alone with their athleticism and of the three, he combined his work ethic and heart to its highest potential. He'd still be a nightmare against matchups regardless how many tall guys you throw at him, especially with the rules now.
Bird benefited of the double teaming caused by McHale and a good Scorer with high FG& in Parish while Barkley had to take the whole load against SFs, PFs and Even Centers all day and by himself. I`ve seen having teams put Centers on Barkley such as David Robinson and even Hakeem O and they still could not stop him. Still Larry Bird is the Greatest SF ever, Greatest Passing Forward Ever and BarkleY Greatest PF Ever :)
Also Larry Bird and Charles Barkley go beyond their Positions of SF and PF. They had no Real Position. As Walton said "Charles, Bird and Magic are the only players that don`t have an exact position". They can Be PGs, SGs, SFs, PFs and in Barkley`s case even Center to hold down big dudes away from the post as he did with Shaq in the early 90s. Great Players don`t rely have an exact position. To bady people of today never saw Chucks Real Level Between 1985 and 1995. By Far the Greatest PF Ever!
I don't know how to drive this home any more, but get this:
In the four years preceding Barkley's tenure with the Suns, Phoenix finished eighth, sixth, eighth and eights, respectively, in points allowed/100 possessions.
During Barkley's four years? 9th, 16th, 19th and 23rd.
Barkley basically single handily made the Suns defense worse. He made them much better offensively, but it came at the expense of their defense.
But with Barkley they had their best records ever and when to the finals in 93. With Barkley they had a Top Efficient Scorer with High FG%, With fewer FGA compared to most Top Scorers), A Team Player, True Versetility, Top Rebounder, The Best Passing Powerforward in the League, A PF that could addapt to a Fast Pace Game and The Only PF that Could Handle the Ball and Create for Others Almost Guard-Like. There is a reason why The Suns went to 7 Games agains the Best Rockets Ever.
Right, he was unbelievable offensively. No argument there. Probably the second-best offensive power forward of all time, behind Larry Bird. If I didn't think Barkley wasn't an amazing player, I wouldn't have posted this video.
We're talking about his defense, though. And even though I love Barkley, I'm a realist and I know he wasn't much defensively. I also know that the Suns' inability to play great defense cost them in 94 and 95.
Is it just me or was basketball way more entertaining then.We had legands like MJ,Barkley, olajuwan etc

Hoopfanify 1 year ago
@Hoopfanify Easily. Look at career stats and especially the assists section. Malone had a longer career but longevity doesn't mean you are better. Malone was a worse rebounder, worse one-on-one scorer, and much worse passer. He did have John Stockton which helped quite a lot too. In their primes it was no contest, Barkley all the way.

Pradamaster, is 5 7, American and can dunk. Wtf you mean white guys can't dunk? It's just about the training people do to get their particular leg strength to be strong enough to dunk. However for me, I personally used the exercising program over at "50inch vertical [dot] com"

Thats what happens when you don´t double team Barkley from the mid range 11/11 1st Quarter :). Nelson said i won´t double team him so the results go like that if you don´t double him and this was the calm less athletic Sir Charles. Not the one in the Sixers. Remember that.

I think his physical prime extended into these years. Think about how much of a bruiser he was just the year before in his MVP year.
lidgerwood 2 years ago
His Best Years Was When he Was with the Sixers and then second to the Suns. In the 1994-95 season his back was giving up and was to retire but Ainge convinced him not to. In the Rockets he played more like a Role Player and Rebounder but he wasn`t a shell of himself: he no longer at the speed, leap, potence, agility and smoothness. Well if you are 6`4/6`5 and play PF someday that will show up on your joints, knees and back indeed. His Prime from 1985 to 1995 was unreal though
AceroySangre 2 years ago
Charles' best year was in '93.
LakersDynasty42 2 years ago
In this game he didn`t even battle like in his physical prime he was just settling for jumpers, spins, relaxed and control not even close to his beasty self. A pissed and angry Charles is something else: Get the Fuck Out of the Way Its My Ball!
AceroySangre 2 years ago
This was 1994- this was his prime- he wasn't settling for those jumpers- they were going in so that's what he went for. When you don't miss a single shot in the first quarter off 8-10 ft jump shots, you'd be settling if you tried to get in close to the hoop- you do what works. His jumper was hot, so he stuck with it.
What have you done that you can tell Charles Barkley that he was settling for outside shots?
lidgerwood 2 years ago
Its not your physical prime when you are 31 but when you are 18-28, at best 28. It was his game prime ofcourse and still "physically suited" but not his physical prime at all.
AceroySangre 2 years ago
Charles was still athletic at ag 30.
LakersDynasty42 2 years ago
thats just the nba perspective though once your around 30-32 your out of your prime automaticly i hate that theory and it really isnt true lots of players played great at 30+
imhood37 2 years ago

Paniro123 2 years ago 2

AceroySangre 2 years ago
Ace knows the only big forward I put ahead of Chuck is Kevin McHale (because he does the things I need from the big forward position, not because he's necessarily better) , although if I'm starting a franchise ... I choose Charley. The only thing Duncan has on Charles is interior defense. Chuck was a better ball-handler, % shooter (it's not even close AND DUNCAN IS 7 INCHES TALLER!) , better rebounder, better passer, better outside shooter, he played the game with more passion & desire ...
alcorderyjr 2 years ago
... .THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PLAYER LIKE CHARLES, a 6'4" (most off guards r taller) FRONT COURT player (he could play both 3 & 4) who could dominate both backboards (offensive & defensive) while score N THE PAINT at a high $? ONLY ARTIS GILMORE HAS A HIGHER 2 POINT% N LEAGUE HISTORY THAN CHARLES BARKLEY! The only thing Duncan really has on Charles is he's had a superior supporting cast 2 play with THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, that's it!
alcorderyjr 2 years ago

Conorski 3 years ago
Barkley was amazing as a Phoenix Sun.
cabezonication 3 years ago
6`6 powered Larry Johnson, 6`9 Chris Webber, 6`11 Vin Baker etc of great PFs that actually could handle the ball unlike today`s Centers forced to play PF. Let me remined you he also destroyed Duncan and Garnett when he was crippled with back and knee problems way passed his prime at ages 34 to 36 while Duncan and Garnett where in perfect healthy conditions and in their physical primes at ages 21 to 23. Today`s NBA is shit compared to the 80s and early 90s.
AceroySangre 3 years ago 4
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Tarpley only played in 280 games and never averaged more than 20.4 points a game, and that was in a season where he only played 5 games!!! Salley never had a season with more than 10 ppg or 7 rebpg, so i don't know why you even mention him. Oakley, Willis and Nance were good, but not as good as Garnett, Webber Nowitzki, Brand or Jermaine O'neal for that sake. Coleman and Kemp were very talented, but they only had 2-3 seasons as star players, and Sampson was only great before Barkleys prime
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
Barkley also played against Garnett and Duncan and took the too school as an old aging overweight knee and back crippled 34 and 36 year old. When Barkley could run lik the wind it would have been even more laughable.
AceroySangre 3 years ago 2
He would destroy today`s league with no handchecking on him. There aint no PF now that has that mix of Skill-Speed-Strength-Ball Handling-Power-Agressiveness going to the Basket. Barkley loved to be guarded by 6`10 + plus PFs it was easier for him. He rather be guarded by those types than the Dennis Rodman types because of his lower center of gravity and ball handles. He was guarded by David Robinson in 93 & Hakeem in 94-95 they could not stop him. He schooled Duncan & Garnett while crippled too
AceroySangre 3 years ago
but i definently think that the NBA never should have inventeed the handchecking rule. It's a pussy rule who don't belong in basketball

We don`t see this kind off WHOLE COURT DOMINATION Anymore :(
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Has anyone realized Charles is schooling not even relying his scores in the athleticism he had back in his 20s or his 39 inch vertical leap?. Neither is he crashing the boards or playing as hard as could when he was pissed. He is just playing with the whole Warrior squad like if they where puppets HaHa. RohoicRamz94 3 years ago
SOCOMJ3SUS 3 years ago
Did you all see how many players the Warriors kept rotating on Charles before each got fouled out? That was the common when Charles played: he was guarded by atleast 3 different players every game.

Greatest Powerforward Ever!
AceroySangre 3 years ago 2
I like Barkley like most people here, and I definently think he's a top 3 PF of all time, but it's just ridiculous to assume that he's stats would be higher if he had played on better teams. When you play on a good team, you don't have to rely on one player as much as you have to on a bad team. Therefore his stats would've probably declined if he'd played on better teams, with FG% being the only exception to that
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
Barkley played as an overweight rookie with an aging Dr J and Moses Malone (Cheeks and Jones) some where obviously passed their prime but even then his stats where amazing. But also they where even more amazing from 1986 to 92 when he played alone and destroyed the whole league. A Prime Barkley would destroy in today`s league. No handchecking on Barklye in every offensive play is suicide no wonder Barkleyt destroyed the olympics and laughs at zone defenses. Best PF Ever Best Olympic Plyer Eva!
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Thank you, you just proved my point. His stats were at it's best when he was the only good player on his team because his team relyed almost only on him. The same goes for Garnett as i've already mentioned. I don't know if Barkley would have dominated more in todays game, because the depth at the PF-position is better in todays game and he will have to go up against 6-10 to 7 footers every night, not just occasionaly as in his prime
PrinsPJ 3 years ago
Listen dude Barkley`s steals and blocks per game was better when he was playing with Dr J, Moses and the rest of the aging crew and his rebounding stayed practically the same up until 86-87 (and that was with Moses on the team!). Lets also remember that Barkley was not the focal scorer up untill the 86-87 season (finally the coach used him correctly as he mentions in his book) and after that he even shot higher from the FG as a lonesome player from 86-92.
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Barkley in his prime would still dominate hands down. There are very few physical freaks in the NBA; Shaq, Barkley and Iverson who can do so much alone with their athleticism and of the three, he combined his work ethic and heart to its highest potential. He'd still be a nightmare against matchups regardless how many tall guys you throw at him, especially with the rules now.
newagepun 2 years ago
Bird benefited of the double teaming caused by McHale and a good Scorer with high FG& in Parish while Barkley had to take the whole load against SFs, PFs and Even Centers all day and by himself. I`ve seen having teams put Centers on Barkley such as David Robinson and even Hakeem O and they still could not stop him. Still Larry Bird is the Greatest SF ever, Greatest Passing Forward Ever and BarkleY Greatest PF Ever :)
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Also Larry Bird and Charles Barkley go beyond their Positions of SF and PF. They had no Real Position. As Walton said "Charles, Bird and Magic are the only players that don`t have an exact position". They can Be PGs, SGs, SFs, PFs and in Barkley`s case even Center to hold down big dudes away from the post as he did with Shaq in the early 90s. Great Players don`t rely have an exact position. To bady people of today never saw Chucks Real Level Between 1985 and 1995. By Far the Greatest PF Ever!
AceroySangre 3 years ago
And Walton was one of the most versatile centers from his era so he should know.
sinjinthule 2 years ago
I don't know how to drive this home any more, but get this:
In the four years preceding Barkley's tenure with the Suns, Phoenix finished eighth, sixth, eighth and eights, respectively, in points allowed/100 possessions.
During Barkley's four years? 9th, 16th, 19th and 23rd.
Barkley basically single handily made the Suns defense worse. He made them much better offensively, but it came at the expense of their defense.
Pradamaster 3 years ago
