  • OMFG IT'S UMBRIGE!!!

  • As a distinguished and world famous Palaeontologist myself, Iz juS' HAs 2 saY I fiNk da bITch is sPot oN, iNniT.

  • Is it just me or does the guy with the bowl cut have a hard time not laughing when Anne elk starts coughing?

  • A very funny sketch. Seems to have provoked a good many funny

comments too. At least, that is my theory. Akh, Ahk!

  • 1:54 Dolores Umbridge?? *Hem hem*

  • Shit, John Cleese is a dead ringer for my secondary school English teacher, Although she had slightly larger chesticles.

  • pure genius

  • FACT: There is no such dinosaur as a brontosaurus. What happened was the skeleton of an Apatosaurus got mixed with the skull of an Camarasaurus and was misidentified.

    Your childhood is a lie.

  • I'm sorry to be so candid, but I have formulated a theory, which is mine, (my theory, that is) which is this: that this sketch is very silly.

  • @AlanCanon2222 Shall we stop it?

  • have met folk like this

  • I wonder what the second theory is... Probably equally profound.

  • @Sinjinator 'Fire brigade choirs seldom sing songs about Marcel Proust'.

  • @lightfunk LOL that sounds perfect

  • @axeofgod72 aww bullshit...

  • I read the way A. Elk (miss) speaks was inspired by how Chapman's partner David Sherlock occasionally spoke, which amused the other Pythons a lot.

  • @Warandore Yes, I think they have said that David never got to the point, lol

  • @sannaols5582 Pretty much like the man who speaks in a very round-about way, I can imagine they took their inspiration from David there too.

  • What is it?

    .......where?

    That always gets me laughing!!!

  • @fuckmania07 chill out man, no one gives a shit

  • 1:35 graham's trying so hard not to laugh

  • is it gust me or is anne i bit like umbrige from harry potter.

  • John Cleese is a genius and brilliant actor

  • I can't watch this sketch without laughing my head off! Although that goes for most Python stuff anyway... And I'm loving Graham's shoes in this one!

  • ayn rand!

  • Cleese was much inspired by Velma from Scooby Doo for this.

  • @MissDaydream100 That's true! Except for the fact that Velma's theories were never as funny!

  • Have seen this scene one time 20 years or so ago. Just seen it for the second time cause it was wondering round in my head. Don't know why, don't know why! It's the Monty Python experience I guess. When you're down and out... feeling blue... Just think of this scene and it will lighten up your day.

  • Brontosaurus never existed, actually. Turned out to be an Apatosaurus with a Camarasaurus head that Archaeologist OC March accidentally assembled wrong.

  • @yesiamawizardjonny Ooh, beat me to it ya cheeky sod :p

  • Man, Graham is fighting so much not to laugh! This is my favorite sketch ever. Plus John Cleese in drag is something to be appreciated.

  • @pandolfitow a fine lady that, isn't it? I'd marry her

  • Graham is cracking up! Oh my gosh that is so funny. <3

  • I'd rather give it a thousand thumbs up :D

  • THRUST

  • cleese sounds like diane kruger... even looks like her a bit :-)

  • @pitupraveen You serious?? Diane Kruger is young and blonde, lol

  • ah-HRYYYYHH-HYYH-HRRYYYYH!

  • oh yeah it was..lol i commented before i even saw the end of the skit oops =P

  • was this the episode when Eric just blabbers on about nothing at all in the room next door? hilarious =D

  • @traceurofitaly21 Yes it was :)

  • love the shoes

  • @KirkDickinson I'd suggest you stick to the Carrot Top and Dane Cook videos in future ;)

  • @KirkDickinson - Some people are just too biased/judgmental. You appear to be an example.

  • @xnonsuchx Hey, I just said I didn't think this was funny. You are the one judging me because I didn't think it was funny. Humor is subjective.

  • @KirkDickinson - No, you DECLARED it wasn't funny, not that YOU just didn't care for it.

  • @xnonsuchx same thing. Funny is subjective. This is not funny to me.

  • @KirkDickinson It'd have been easier if you kept that to yourself in the first place, really :P

  • you wouldn't need to cough that loud!

  • epic john cleese... and sexy graham chapman

  • I haven't seen this episode in a while. Can someone explain to me why they would get a phone call asking for their shoe size? I can't remember.

  • @AHippieFrom1969 - It started at the beginning of the show in another skit where someone was calling the police (or some govt. agency) and after answering some basic info was asked for their shoe size. Not sure if it was a 'making fun of bureaucracy thing' or just being ridiculous about ID info.

  • @xnonsuchx Thanks for refreshing my memory. :)

  • @AHippieFrom1969

There's no reason. It's completely random but it was an ongoing theme during this episode. Part of the surreal nature of the show.

  • my theory reffers to the theory that i have which makes it mine. LOL

A brontosaurus is thin at one end, very very thick in the middle, and thin at the other end. That is my theory which belongs to me i own it and what it is to. LOL LOL LOL

  • my theory reffers to the theory that i have which makes it mine. LOL

  • well, what is it?????? WHERE?????? lol

  • My fellow Python fans should take pride in the fact that this sketch is referenced in my communication theory textbook (along with a nice, shiny black and white photo!)

  • Usually it was Terry Jones who made a convincing woman, but this is one time that time John Cleese pulled it off.

  • This theory makes far more sense than creationism.

  • @geffel this is exactly what happened in dover

  • @wohodude100

Yes, I can just imagine Eugenie Scott using this argument to debunk 'intelligent design'...

  • @geffel no, more like michael behe and all the other creationist dumbasses. See unlike dumbass intelligent design retards after you ask ken miller or eugene scott what their theory is they actually explain it. And then once they explain the theory they use this little thing called evidence to back it up and prove it.

  • @wohodude100 Sorry, I was being tongue-in-cheek. Doesn't alwayscome across in these comments. I found the notion of Eugenie Scott doing this to be quite amusing.

If you check out my videos you'll see I've covered the creationtards in a number of them.

  • This conversation is identical to many that I've had with Intelligent Design proponents.

  • Classic :)

  • Oh, god, I can't get over how awful Graham's haircut is. I'm told it was popular then. Can't imagine why. He looked so adorable once he cut it.

  • @lisambofoh One word: The Beatles. Wait, that's two words.

  • That quote is on the Monty Python poster i bought! So good...

  • Miss!

  • Ah, yes, (ahem!) my theory on this sketch - (ahem!) which is mine and belong to me (ahem!) is, I laughed till I stopped... (ahem-aheeerrrm!)

  • 0:15 eess gooood.

  • She really does look like an elk...

  • Wow, John's wig looks a bit like Terry G's normal hair.

  • Graham's hair, my god x)

And this is one of the finest John Cleese moments, eh-vurrr.

  • That bit where "THRUST" comes up in massive letters always kills me.

  • "Anne Elk" looks like my mom. O_O;;

  • John Clees is clearly a Goon Show fan. The character, the voice and most of the "Annie Elk" dialog, including the cough and the entire "my theory, this is what it is" bit, are lifted from Peter Sellers, who created them in the original radio show. Still funny, after all these years...

  • Definitely my favourite Python sketch, can't understand why it isn't more famous.

  • He looks like Nana mouskouri :P

  • Kiss me Hardy! Signed Lord Nelson (Admiral) deceased.

  • Oh man, so fucking lol :-)

  • "My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and the thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too."

  • There are parts in this, especially during John's coughing, where you can actually see Graham genuinely trying not to laugh. when a Python can't help but laugh, it's got to be pretty hilairious right?

  • @woojaffa those are my favorite moments on the show! Especially in the Exploding Penguin sketch...oh man...

  • the left guy is a beatle???right?

  • @mvkdirk

He looks like Ringo but no, he's not lol.

  • Grahams' shoes are awesome!

    Very funny, by the way.

  • "What is it?"..."Where?" XD

  • Anne Elk brackets Miss brackets

    LOL

  • I wonder if Miss Elk has any new theories about the Brontosaurus now that it's no longer a recognized species.

  • @TomMSTie

You may well ask that, Tom.

  • @smaakjeks ...I just did.

  • @TomMSTie

Good for you. My word, yes.

  • *AHEM, AHEM!*

  • I think this is the first time I've seen John Cleese play a women.

  • You should see him as Dreary Boring Old Git. :)

  • @joszefVARADI

And he does play a "Pepperpot" sometimes.

  • i find this is very amusing "this is my theory that is mine that belongs to me-"

  • Very good, although I think the radio version of this sketch is funnier.

  • so funny but it's incomplete!! The best has been cut out .... !!

  • Great skit!

Cleese coughs alot like my boss (Steve L)... all day every day, relentless and way over the top. Don't get me started on his cowlike chewing, burping and sinus clearing snorts. It's pretty annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't sit right across from me.

  • I love your tags - sarah palin republican economic platform - lolz

  • can anyone tell me the season and episode?

  • season 3, episode 5:

    The All-England Summarize Proust Competition

  • what's the name of the woman who plays anne elk? she's beautiful and her coughs are sexy

  • John Cleese.

  • @pandolfitow john cleese

  • @pandolfitow John Cleese. Some lady.

  • @pandolfitow her name is Jon Cleese

  • @pandolfitow I think that woman would be John Cleese XD

  • @pandolfitow it's a man

  • @pandolfitow sorry to break it to you but shes a guy!

  • @pandolfitow John Cleese

  • Apparently Anne Elk (Miss) was based on Graham's partner David Sherlock, because he usually talked in a roundabout way that often amused the other Pythons. Might have something to do with why Graham was cracking up :)

  • Comment removed

  • Love the hair, Grahm!

  • Anne Elk is quite the hotty. Like a tall Dr Ruth.

  • Me and my dad quote this all the time, and one day out at dinner, he says to me, "Do you remember the lady's name, the one that gives the theory?" I say, "No," And he says, "Anne Elk." I was laughing so hard I was crying for at least five minutes. Ohh man.

  • -epic music- THRUST!

  • funniest shit ever!!!! i once did a re-enactment of this!!!

  • "My theory by A. Elk bracket Miss bracket."

  • "Well, Chris! What is it, that it is, this theory of mine? Well, this is what it is"

Doesn't make sense at all, but I love saying it, lmao!

  • Brilliant, although I think the LP version is much tighter.

  • lol, THRUST

  • Every time i see john cleese its like instant laughter

  • in drag even better :))

  • My opinion, that belongs to me, is as follows. My opinion by PrudenceNumberNine [Miss] John Cleese was quite the looker back in his Python days. That is my opinion, it is mine and belongs to me.

  • at 1:35 you can see graham cracking up! and I understand him hahaha. this is soooo silly and funny! <3

  • This my favorite MOnty Python sketch - it's just so tottaly absurd ( I don't know were did they found thiers ideas ?!) I love Ann Elk personnage - look at those skinny legs LOL "This is what it is , ehhhe , mhhhemhhe , hhehhe!!!"

  • he sounds like a roster at the end, lol.

  • He looks like one of The Beatles

  • Ringo...

  • "My theory, that belongs to me, is as follows. This is how it goes. The next thing that I'm going to say is my theory. Ready? My theory by Anne Elk [Miss]. This theory goes as follows, and begins now. All Brontosauruses are thin at one end, much MUCH thicker in the middle, and then, thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too."

  • very,very fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunny!

  • She's so pretty. :)

  • For the love of god! Spit it out lady! Love This show.

  • 0:28 - the look that says it all...

  • Kind of like watching MSNBC

  • Would you like some chewing gum?

  • The sad part is I have a prof who lectures like that LOL

  • It's a theory of the brontosaurus which holds good to this day - despite the fact that it's now known as the apatosaurus.

  • Cleese should have done more Anne Elk!!!

  • It's so funny to look at Chapman trying hard not to laugh! XD

  • This is exactly what a say.

  • John's awfully cute in that wig...

  • @ThingsWeSaidToday - I think Michael Palin has said that John Cleese dressed up as a woman is the funniest thing he's ever seen (or at least one of).

  • John Cleese has never looked so great as a women.

  • "THRUST" Why do a bunch of middle-class "pay-per-view intellectuals" still keep knocking out these dreadful programs when we were laughing at them 35 years ago.

  • It cant get much more sillier then this:) MP is the legends of all comedy:)

  • omg everytime I see this sketch it cracks me up.

  • THIS IS SO FUNNY!!! When I first saw this, I couldn't stop laughing! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • I love Monty Python - both of them! lol

  • monty python are the best!!!

  • That Monty Python is one funny fella.

  • This is SO funny because it's so true to life!

  • This sketch is great, but I prefer the "audio" version on "MP's Previous Record." Tighter, and the ending is way more over the top.

  • totally agree

Cleese does a much more irritating performance and it works better

  • Check out Graham at 1:36...he looks close to losing it.

  • This therie gose as follows and begins now:

All brontasoruses are thin at one end, much, much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my therie, it is mine and it belongs to me, and I own it and what it is too!

  • Lol, what is it? Where? Hilarious =D. Monty Python is the best comedy show in the world!

  • The beginning always cracks me up with the dramatic music, the word "THRUST" plastered over the screen with huge letters and the highly confused look on Cleese's face. Of course, this is a classic skit in every way. Chapman's trying so hard not to laugh.

  • so simple joke, yet so geniously:)

  • sarah palin!
