  • it's underground music for underground artists. Feels raw.

  • this is my favorite Roots song by far, just so fucking grimy. I think they do the grimy sound better than the clean, over-produced one (it all sounds good though). And Black Thought is much, much better than Malik. I wish the Roots would only use Black Thought on their albums bc he just makes Porn and Dice sound like amateurs (which they're not)

  • ---

  • SO UNDERRATED!! True hip-hop gets little attention.

  • i fell in love with this tune from the second episode of 24 7 mayweather ortiz. Sick beat!

  • i love this hook

  • Black Thought and Malik B are like two peas in a pod. Lyrical geniuses. Whenever these two guys get on a track, they create a timeless masterpiece.

  • What an absolutely SICK beat!!

  • BLACK THOUGHT!

  • MALIK B!!!!!!!! Got dammit That man is a monster on the m.i.c. Black thought is my favorite rapper ever and the best to do it but man MAlik B showed his ass on this shit. He's the only one who can truly outshine Black Thought at times.

  • this beat reminds me of Massive Attack, it's sick.

  • I love how Black Thought and Malik B. have their own style of rapping, and so compliment each other very well. Not to mention Dice Raw, too. Malik is more direct, aggresive, blunt -to the point, whilst Thought is more poetic and use of more intellect - he makes ya think hard. They rape the shit out of mainstream bullshit music.

  • "I'm from the ill-est part of the Western Hemisphere, so if you're into sight seeing don't visit there...." Ha ha, wicked...... I saw Roots at the Carling Academy in Bristol 2 years ago and they tore the roof off..... a seriously talented bunch that can deliver live, big up Pogneman for posting this flick.... awesome

  • When the music starts, holy fucking shitt.

  • FIYAH

  • even. better. live. The Legendary.

  • Unbelievable.

  • This is my all-time favorite Roots song. So powerful, and great beat, lyrics, composition, and funny chorus. :) Truly an epic and legendary group. Lots of great guests, and just amazing music, all-around. Thanks for the post!

  • fuckin ILL!

  • The more I listen to the Roots, the more I realize that they are the best Hip Hop crew around.

No one really compares to this excellence ( to me at least)

One of the best songs in the world !

    Thanks for the Upload !!

  • holy cow malik b can say whatever the hell he wants and it sounds SO SICK

  • ILL.

  • i like this song :) this is good music compard to all that NDUBZ shit and allthem. Fuck u if u think this song is badcoz urr obviusoly fuckin retarded!

  • this beat comes HARD !!!

  • wow porn whos that... his verse was bangin though

  • Porn didn't have a verse - ist verse was Black Thought, second was Malik B dude.

  • this iz whatz up

  • And yes, I think Lil Wayne is shit. His metaphors are childish, talks about how rich he is, how many women he fucks and how much self-esteem he has about himself. Most randomest metaphors ever, he should get a reward for that, oh wait he already did! Good day.

  • I don't blame you guys though. It's BECAUSE of shitty music that ya'll labeled it as mainstream. But eh, who's fault is that?! People are saying these guys are sick and this and that but when it comes down to it, the real icons of hip-hop aren't getting shit because everyone's hyping up those so called "shitty music". Honestly, how do you think Souljah got rich? Or Gucci Mane? T-Pain? Lil Wayne?

  • white suburban female teens. that's my guess.

  • 100 percent accurate. and as an MC its really frustrating to know that keeping it real is a thing of the past and true talent dont get respect anymore

  • Whoever says The Roots isn't mainstream is a dumbass that don't know shit. They are NOT UNDERGROUND that's for sure. Lmao, 'bout not mainstream, do you know what mainstream means? I dunno about you so called "hip-hop heads" nowadays that differentiate good music and shitty music from underground and mainstream. Mainstream DOES NOT mean shitty music. Underground is when "upcoming" rappers are on the daily grind tryna get some touch on record labels. Meaning this is not underground.

  • I think what people mean is they retain thier underground sound. When you hear a roots song it doesn't sound like it was churned out of cash cow, it sounds fresh.

  • True, that "underground sound" is like a breath of fresh air.

  • @frkye I see what you're trying to say, and I agree with that definition of underground, but I'd add a second definition of underground--music not currently played by the radio or on television. It's possible to be underground, make it into the mainstream, and then become underground once again when the radio stops playing your music. Sad as it is, the Roots no longer get airtime on the radio.

  • Damn, back when hip hop was actually good.

    I miss those days..

  • this and Mobb Deep Shook Ones (Part II) are the two best RAP songs ever

  • this songgoes hard. contains much heat.

  • Black Thought is easily one of the most talented dudes to ever pick up a mic.

Malik B is damn good too.

  • could you elaborate on why he is so talented, I don't get it? He just sounds angry with life like all the rest of the rappers out there. On top of that, the only thing that sounds good in this song is the beat, which I will admit, it's pro. The rest of the song I have heard 100 times over again, cries and anger about something that never happened to the last 2/3 generations of black people. I am confused?

  • Read up on Black Thought and his youth and what happened to his parents in Philly.....

He is being real. He is showing us something most of us (fortunetely) will never see. And he does it better than almost anyone.

And there are plenty of other songs that have a totally different feel than this does.

  • They all do this man, Hiphop is dying, it's so played out, it's always about the same gay shit over and over. Some black guy saying he is from the ghetto, which he creates, booty, bitches, money.. or crying about the past they never experienced. Mainstream music now a days is a joke, the best music of all time is the 70's, they make you feel the music and talk about shit that makes you feel good. Now a days our government promotes this newage psyop garbage. I am sick of it.

  • I cant begin to tell you how wrong you are....maybe you just need to listen to more hip hop.

  • It's a proven fact as it stands right now, HipHop sales are down by 45% in the last 4 years. I can't see how I am wrong when the facts are clearly printed across the boards. Even Mainstream rock music now a days is garbage, half the artists shouldn't even be on teh stage, they have 0 talent, sing about hating their lives, it's all about big business's making money, not about talent and real music anymore.

  • maybe you just don't understand the music

  • sales t down cos illegal downloadin has become a trend duh - not cos the music has got worse

  • @rapidkid11 yeah...sorry bout that

  • @NickV801 I agree, I think the only person who can rival him is Mos Def. Mos Def is insane.

  • Mos Def easily comes close - props on the good taste.

I think someone who is less known but just as smart (although a little less talented with his flow) is Cise Starr from CYNE.

But ya, love Mos Def - props!

  • @NickV801 nick and overseer both have good points. a lot of the mainstream shit today definitely sucks (im a big fan of music from the 70s too) but you cant say that everything today is garbage. that's not even close. if you look hard enough you'll find good music, like this for example. there are people that are still real.

  • i never said all mainstream is garbage.

    And the roots aint mainstream.

  • yeah overseer said all mainstream sucks not you.

And i didnt mean to say the roots were mainstream that reads wrong...i just meant to say taht everything today isn't bad

  • mos def is mad crazy with a microphone. pure legend.

  • what a perfekt beat...amazing..love the song

  • Word, first time i heard this, my heart was beatin so loud. When that happens, that means 1 thing........Real Music-Real Hip Hop.

  • Yo did anyone notice this song in Stomp the Yard? I was like pause/rewind pause/rewind trying to figure out why it gave me such a strange feeling while everybody was going apes over the battle. First time I ever heard of The Roots & I have to say it had a serious impact on my taste in music. This is where it's at!

  • they dont get the police, they get the protection, and walk around with heat like Charlton Heston1

Damn Black Thought is a monster artist.

  • WORD "A celebration of the loss of your innocence to your old self you lost any resemblance!" Damn this song hurts!

  • lol you know what? ima NYC, BX chick, but im moving out to philly next year and i just cant wait, gotta love it, from NY to philly to chi town its all love between the real niggas!! ya heeard?

  • the best group ever

    resPect:)

  • powerful song!

  • This beat is the hardest shit I've here in a minute...

  • I can't stop listening to this song...

  • Which are story tellers that talks about their tribe and whats going on in the world of course in story form. Thats what Mc is now there black they talk about there people and whats going on in the world concerning there world. ITS ALL IN THE MUSIC. The stuff there talking about is just saying thats were it is. The only way you lose the rest of the song is because you really dont understand hip hop understand the people the tells the story. Thats the plot whats in the music. duh!!!!

  • dom ive only read two of your post and relized you and idiot. If any body knows what true hip hop is then they know what i'm about to say. True hip hop is carried in the Soul of an MC which MCs really are the new bread of griots.

  • Right up through the first chorus is Hip Hop perfection. The beats, the tone, and the lyrics.....Truly perfect.

  • Malik B is baack!!! I spit flame to get dames to get change! What

  • Long live THE ROOTS!!!! your music is not only truthful but wonderful!!! You shall and MUST proceed and continue to rock the mic and keep it real for all of these tired ass bubble gum rappers: you could learn a lil sumthin from THE ROOTS... keep this in mind: even the white folks LOVE THE ROOTS!!! Keep on brothas, much respect and love!! Peace and blessings.

  • if you think an album is going to cause

racial tension you must be insane

racial tension already exist. the roots

is just good music and dude this came out

already rising down is there new album

which I'm gonna get alongside nas's nigger album. Much love to real hip hop.

  • ive got game theory it's real. You don't just wake up one morning and think i'll call my new album 'nigger' if your not trying to stir something. could be positive tho.'birthday girl' on the roots' myspace is dreadful, commercial, kanye-style bollocks. i'm well aware that racial tension already exists. but is that kind of music helping? you need to look into the illuminati if you are not already aware. NEW WORLD ODRDER SHIT! and nas and jay-z know exactly what its about

  • domsure I know all about the illunminati

I been trying to warn people about that

all this year. So I understand where your

coming from. But I think nas is just trying to be controversial. Even though their in

illuminati I still think their talented

so I still listen to them but I don't get

    influuenced by what they do.

  • That's what it's about, really...I mean, you can't let rappers and superstars influence what you do. Otherwise everybody on the planet would be dead. Rap used to be about getting your thoughts out and expressing your oppinions...it's changed since then. Hate, anger and gettin material things took it's place.

  • There isn't an illuminati. Thats ridiculous. You're obviously young, or havent been exposed to much of the world.

  • there is an illuminati I am young.

so what's your point because I'm young

that makes me dumb. Well obviously senior citizens like yourself have obviously lived to long and have not gained wisdom while they have lived. I'm guessing your one of those old fools. you know think they've seen it all

think that they have lived through shit

and tell young people like myself you haven't seen anything. but then when they get screwed

    they complain.

  • well kurios91 I don't care about what you

have to say because illuminati does exist

you have a computer look it up. or better yet

listen to tupac he said many times that they exist. or better yet why don't watch when reagon said himself that there was going to be a one world government one day. You don't have enough balls to say that there is. Well

don't worry cause I will say it for you.

fuck nwo illuminati and fuck you for not having the guts to say it.

  • maaaaan this shit rulez. its good to listening and b-boying too ;)

  • back this hit, song so hard wit it ahh

  • This song fucking kicks serious ass.

  • This is as vicious and sinister a beat as Dead Prez's 'hip hop'. ILLLLLLLLL!! Legendary!!

  • bass is amazing in this song...dope beat...ill lyrics song is amazing

  • One of the best hip hop/Rap example out there.

  • ?uestlove is a beast on the drums

  • its to damn short lol, i gotta listen to it twice, utterly amazing.

  • too much

  • Awesum stuff, roots are proper hip hop/rap, not like dat soulja boy crud

  • im hearing you man. where's the soul in soulja boy? i believe 'money whore' would be more appropriate.

  • the roots are amazing i wish i could see them live someday..

  • this beat is godlike!
