I just saw part of this movie on cable and I think she was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I know she's old now but now I know the look that I prefer.
Was this car really on the property before filming? Or was it a prop? To be authentic, it would be from 1925 or slightly earlier ('25 was when the cotton bubble burst and everybody lost their money).
I've read that it is a Pierce Arrow, but cannot find a PA Sedanca DeVille that looks like it. Many cars were custom-bodied back then, though, so who knows?
@megaswenson...the car was a prop. It was borrowed for the film and dismantled and made to look rustic. In reality it was in great condition and had to be restored back to original state before being give back to owner. I think this is discussed in one of Elia Kazan's interview books.
@megaswenson I don't know; maybe they simply couldn't find one. I remember now where I heard story re car: Film Forum in NYC screened Baby Doll in 2008, with Eli Wallach and Carroll Baker in attendance. In a discussion after the screening, Wallach talks about the car. The podcast of this event may still be available online. I have the download. Wallach states that the car was a Perce Arrow and they altered it so much the owner didn't recognize it in the film!
@salmineo22 I was at that screening! I was the one twitching nervously because I was seeing my dream girl in person (albeit 77 y.o.) Got to meet her after.
If there is a sexier woman that ever appeared in film, I've never seen her. WOW!

Marilyn Monroe wanted this part? It would have taken about 4 years to shoot it.

@MrJuno6 why four years?

@MrJuno6 I don't think Marilyn Monroe was as hot or innocent looking as the woman who was in it.

@salmineo22 That's amazing! I wonder why they didn't just buy an old car from the Junkyard. Thanks for filling me in.
