AVI is a container format, not a CODEC. The CODEC that is used has way more to do with file size than the container format that is used. .MOV like .AVI are containers not CODECs, I can't believe how many people still get this confused, especially those that tell people how to do things such as compression on YouTube. If you are looking for a smaller file size in an AVI container, you need to switch the CODEC that you are using, and not necessarily the package that contains the video.

Great tutorial, helped me a lot, but the NTSC framerate is actually not necessary. On the one hand it's designed for videos which are supposed to be shown on TV (NTSC = National Television Systems Committee), on the other hand the human eye can only spot 23 frames per second (depending on the viewer, who can sometimes even see less). So, by choosing that framerate you can additionally save 6 frames per second, that means 21% less file size.

This is like the 4th set of settings ive tried.. i click render and the % bar comes up and the elapsed time goes up and up and up and usually stops somewhere around 1 - 2 hours.. it renders anywhere from 0-5% and then stops and the time runs out and nothing happens.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. im on a decent computer so idk what the fuck the problem is

@BJF018 I would assume you torrented it? I had the same problem at first, it would freeze very often-even while rendering. I have never been able to find out what was wrong, but reinstalling it helped for me. Good luck!

(why) isn't the resolution fixing the aspect ratio? 1280x720 would be 16:9 = 1.7777

why (and what for) can you choose aspect ratio of 1 (square) or 1.3333 etc?

Well I just did a trial and did exactly what you did. The result: It looks like shit! The raw video was MP4 HD 720p, I exported as MP4 HD 720p and it ended up looking worse. WMV is best, i'll stick to that.

if you have black boarders go into video properties and change the "keep aspect ratio" to no, then drag the outer boxes so the video fits....
