hi .. I have a question, I'm left handed and would like to buy a ukulele, if I buy a standard, one for right-handed, I can give back the strings without any problems? or need a special left-handed? thanks
@jpablosnm It is not quite that easy. When you put the strings on upside down, the grooves in the nut will be the wrong size. The shop where you buy it may be able to do it for you though.
@KenMiddletonUkulele thank you very much for your reply, but in terms of sound, the tension of the strings, and the rest of "performance" of the ukulele is no problem? I could turn the strings and play without problems?
@jpablosnm Provided you deal with the nut issue, there is no problem. Unless, of course, the saddle is offset (compensated). If so, this would need to be "reversed" too.
Very nice review. I've lost too much hearing, maybe, to tell that the strings went out of tune (as you mentioned in your description). Either that or it wasn't that obvious! I really like the sound of this one either way, and I think playing little bits of different types of music really helped show what it sounds like being played different ways!
Thanks so much for the excellent review! I've been debating between a Cordoba 20BM and the Ohana BK-35. Is the BK-35 a new Uke model because it is hard to find where I live in California. The BK-35 is looking to be the one I'd like to purchase! Question - There doesn't seem to be much material to advance one's skill, such as learning fingerstyle blues, on the baritone uke. I've played the guitar for a couple years. Would it be better to learn from guitar books or from standard tuned uke books?
@rishiomedia California is probably the best state for buying Ohanas. No it is not a new model. Yu can use guitar books up to a point, but don't think of it as a small guitar. It is a ukulele.
@KenMiddletonUkulele Right you are. I didn't realize the factory was in Cali. Turns out the factory has just 1 baritone left and I got it special ordered! I don't quite follow what you mean to think of it as a Uke versus guitar. I chose a baritone Uke because I like the size, playability (with my small hands), and simplicity of it over a guitar. Even though it's not a guitar, I hope to learn to play folkish/bluesish type music on it because that's what I enjoy most.
HEY KEN YOU TAUGHT MY OLD MUSIC CLASS BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL ABOUT 3-4 years ago? ALSAGER HIGH SCHOOL! me and u used to talk about ukulele's a lot in class!
I'm going use this vid to convince my husband he needs a uke. He's pro-uke, but learning something radically different from guitar tuning puts him off. This isn't radically different, and from my sk38, he knows how good an Ohana can be.
This baritone has a lovely tone Ken. You're such a good advertisement for Ohana - if I ever wanted a baritone, I'd definitely consider this one after hearing you play it.
could sit through a demo of all the uke's you promote and not get fed up with your playing Ken might even buy a euke myself after listening to the tones you achieve.
Always enjoyable watching your review Ken. It is a lovely sound you get...Sure I read somewhere you coulod get traditional uke tuning strings for a baritone somewhere. The extra size could give more bass to a nice low g sound if so
A Ukulele novice I didn't realise that chord shapes I'm learning on a tenor could be played on a baritone.. albeit under different names. Thanks for that. Re: supply.... I want to get a solid wood Ohana but TK35s don't seem to be available in the U.K. ?? Are they coming?

@freackykit I think the baritone strings may work better though, Chris. Tenor strings on a baritone body would change the balance quite a bit.

Must say i'm not a big fan of GHS strings but they sound very nice on this baritone, a bit more mellow, jazzy even.

@Kroffe75 GHS are OK. They get a bit of a bad press, but in the end they are just strings.
