I agree with what others have said. You aren't truly pushing yourself. In the original study, participants were hitting 170% of their VO2 max. The speed actually wasn't the problem. It was the incline being too low. If you want to run a hill sprint, you have to simulate a hill. A proper hill sprint would be using at least a 10.0 incline or higher.
A good hill sprint routine would be 10.0 speed @ 10.0 incline. Then you increase the incline/speed from there as your conditioning improves.
@rdeffleymoviesnew What's with all the numbers? I've never kept track of my VO2 intake velocity and I could knock the shit out of any of you in any way.
this isn't tabata. you need to be SPRINTING. jogging on a treadmill on a fixed speed for the whole workout doesn't have nearly the same effect as if you were sprinting as fast as you can on flat level land. You wont be going at the same speed the whole workout becasue your first sprints will tire you out. This is the point of tabata. You will be winded after 2 cycles and then you must force yourself to keep going as fast as you can. This is weak compared to REAL tabata.
What were your results like? Was this all you did for your workouts or what was this in combination with? I just learned about tabata so I'm really interested in your results.
Do them outside on a proper hill. This workout doesnt look particularly strenuous. But fair enough, atleast you are out there pushing yourself to be better.
One thing about the treadmill is that you don't slack off on speed if you don't mess with the settings. On real ground, most people slow down on the latter intervals.
@maxcapgain They slow down on the intervals because they are actually SPRINTING. Hence, fatigue. If you AREN'T slowing down at least some in the later intervals then you aren't pushing yourself hard enough.
