Omg noooo.It's called Sati.No they don't do that any longer,it is forbidden.It's not like they will be burned alive though.When the wife dies she will be cremated and put with her husband;however,that is not the case any longer.(Wisdom for the day)

@333Fergus Yes, it is illegal but in some Hindu villages such disgusting acts have been committed. It is obviously not a daily, common thing. But to solve a problem you need to at least recognize that it is there; Thank you for that. That being said, saying that Indian males are women oppressors is just non-productive, racist, and sexist. Unfortunately too many of them do have that mentality, and we're fighting it. It doesn't mean that all Indian males are women oppressors.

But I'm a german/canadian and was engaged to a muslim(turkey/afghanistan family)I discovered that he was a typical male plus asian descent that made it that much more difficult in life.I read they're bible(muslim) in the hope of understanding them but it became very clear it was a very one sided situation. I'm now in my fifty's and realize that you can't change things so easily but feel it's just one of those things we have to go through for whatever reason.

@333Fergus I am hispanic and our relation is kind of difficult because of his culture... and we already agreed that we keep and respect our respective cultures and religions and believes, at first I was afraid of what could happen to me but we live in America where those believes dont have to be followed as if you were in India...
