  • Wonderfull !!

  • Yang Zhen Dou's (YZD) line is questionable. After Y Chengfu (Dad) died, his elder brother, Y Sou-Chung (YSC, big brother), completed the family training and trained YZD. He later learned other martial arts and later used his family's name to make himself big, nothing of the original forms remains; YSC students retained YCF's original forms. To this day, the splintered Y-family factions continues to milk the success of their ancestors and whisper slander to the successors of the YSC line.

  • Nice form and good kung-fu Mister Yang Jun !

  • Nice

  • very graceful. Thank you.

  • When searching video to learn Yang's Taichi saber, I first learn from Yang Zhen-Dou instruction video. In that video, it is always Yang June doing the demo. So, pretty much, June has got the best part from his grand father. Aside from Yang Zhen Dou, his eldest brother Yang So-Juan also taught many good students and kept an unique form of Taichi saber. Ma Wei Huan is currently the best in this branch. Viewer can compare the similarity and differences to get whole picture of Taichi saber.

  • Excellent

  • it is amazing how much the yang style form has changed from the chen style form

  • nice, power from the ground up, properly, thank you

  • whatever it is.. someone has to continue the lagecy.... if not the direct decendant of the Yang heritage... then WHO?

    You ... me... your uncle

  • I'll qualify my last post. Don't stop between movements unless you are instructing, and don't, repeat don't, lock your elbow like that. It makes me wince every time he does that.

  • Forgive me. I just read the back of the tape box (in Chinese) and this is (from the box) the young fellow in the tape is 6th generation Yang Zhun. I guess he is Yang Zhen Dou's grandson. Guess what? He still needs to work on his form.

  • Dude stfu already, what the heck are your credentials aside from your Internet Black Belt. Just shut up and enjoy the video.

  • Bowser 8375 okay. I'll tell it like it is. The guy is not a master of taichi (ji). His movements are jerky and he isn't following the most basic, essential rule of tai chi(ji); that of maintaining the circle. My credentials are irrelevant. If a small child tells an adult that he is using incorrect grammar do you insult the child for being impertinent. If the man wants to instruct he needs to instruct correctly. Simply because you don't see the flaw in form that is your shortcoming. u stfu.

  • I doubt you have any credentials to back it up. A child correcting grammar is a totally different scenario. Try a better example next time. If you have never studied or have no credentials then stfu already. There is no such thing as Perfect Tai Chi, It takes a lifetime to master, and that is the whole point. Get a clue.

  • Actually, you other posters this is Yang Zhen dou's student from Yang's browdsword tape (in Chinese). That said he doesn't exemplify the best form,, does he.

  • While Yang Jun is young, and I think he does have good form and is still growing. Since you assume a position to be able to make public judgements on his form, I sure we all would love to see you demonstrate what you consider" the" best form.

  • Peter,

Because he markets himself on the internet I shouldn't critique his style? My response to you is I will gladly critique your style, and free of charge. By the way, your style reminds me of Pang who also moved to Washington at the same time I did from Hawa'ii back in the early 1970s. You take yourself far to seriously, and as the Taiji adage goes "if you take yourself to seriously the master will laugh to death at you."

  • acupuncter

I never learned from TY Pang but I knew of him back then when he was a Bagua instructor here and not teaching Taiji. I take my practice seriously and have much to learn even if the "master " and "you" laugh at it.

Of course you can critique anyone you like .. still would like to see your good form....seriously.

I am sure I can learn from you.

  • Ignore this fool Acupuncter. There are tons of Intenet Masters , and this guy talks from a high horse yet doesnt show anything of his own skill. Ignore..............

  • Bowser I don't expect you to understand anything about taichi(ji); you subscribe to shaolin. Have you even been to shaolin temple? But it doesn't surprise me that you use profanity and insult posters with name calling. Why should I show my form? We are not talking about my form. As a credential I will say that in my class of 2, my classmate in Beijing was China 5 times National Push Hands Champion.

  • Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuureeee he was rofl. Did it ever cross your mind that this may be a instructional video ? That is probably why there are slight pauses. For the record Tai chi is supposed to have a slight pause. It is not continuous perse. Anyways, you must be a venerable YouTube grandmaster and there is nothing more that you can learn. Sine your cup is full. As to the contents of your cup I can only guess............................

  • BowWow,

    Sheer and utter nonsense.

Do you know anything about Tai Chi (ji)?

  • I am a student of Taiji, so to pretend I know it all , I sure would not. I do not come as you do. You regard anything contrary to you ropinion as nonsense, so that says alot about you. I am done wasting time talknig to you. Peace to you.

  • It is good you are a student of taiji. I'm almost old enough to ve your grandfather and you should read the many volumes that have been written before you pretend to understand. First, anything said about taji is nonsense, a quote from an annal of taiji. Taiji is shown through movement. That said, again, read this and take it to heart-- you don't break the thread.

No discussion on that; it is a rule.

  • BowWow,

As for me I'm not a master, and I wont air my credentials on this silly forum, but my broadsword classmate in Beijing was 5 times China National tuishou (push hands) champion. Find out if the young man whose style you are defending has that distinction.

  • BowWow,

One last thing I again noticed after rewatching the video. Should you ever go to China and train with Yang Zhen Dou's grandson, which is easy enough for you to do if you have the money, you might hint to him to not lock his elbows the way he does. That's how you get your arm broken.

And incidentally, I have the utmost respect for Yang Zhen Dou, I actually retain the original of this video, but I don't believe Yang Cheng Fu ever passed the mantel to him, instead to Chen Wei Ming.

  • Bowser

You'd probably bite an onion and say "why is this apple so pungent?" I've practiced taiji for almost as long as your video master has been alive. I've not said his form is bad, it's just not correct. You should practice a little longer and maybe you will begin to understand the yin and yang.

  • So then post some of your Tai Chi and put your money where your mouth is. Otherwise take your opinion and go elsewhere please.

  • BowWow,

You've said more than you mean to with "your money where your mouth is". Taiji is not about money and you will rarely find any true masters of any martial art posting videos to this silly forum. As a matter of fact most of the charlatans who post videos here and pretend to be masters the true masters wouldn't even take as students. Young man, go to China and you'll find that out. But then you're to frightened to leave the comfort of your computer chair lifestyle to do that aren't you.

  • As a matter of fact I don't know how Yang Checg Fu could have passed the mantel to Yang Zhen Dou since he left and went south to teach when Yang Zhen Dou was only 2 years old and died when he was 10 years old.

  • As for my last post, you can go and study with Yang Zhen Dou in Shaanxi if you have the money. If you want to study with his grandson Yang Jun you don't even have to go to China. He's in Seattle.

And incidentally I don't see how he could have passed the mantel to Yang Zhen Dou since he left and went south to GuangZhou to teach when Yang Zhen Dou was only 2 years old and died when he was 10. Yang Shou Zhong was the son who accompanied him and later taught his students when Yang Cheng Fu died.

  • Very nice!!! 5 Stars.

  • I tried yesterday sabre and I enjoyed it a lot!, very beautiful but difficult as well..

  • Un estilo muy elegante propio de la familia Yang.

  • 一板一眼

  • Nice vid! :-) This "version" is a little different from the one i do.

I have learned a similar yang sabre form, the one taught by the "Tung Family". (Tung Kai Ying - Tung Hu Ling - Tung Ying Cheh) Tung Ying Cheh, learned it from Yang Chen Fu.

  • Interesting - I am learning that broadsword set right now from my teacher, a student of Tung Kai Ying.

  • I'm surprised to ses he doesn't seem to follow even the most basic principles of taijiquan laid down by Yang Chengfu, such as using the waist to direct all the movements, he just waves the dao around with his arm.

  • Look closer

  • yes, i agree, but its important that u understand that those principles that were laid down by yang cheng fu were developed over 70 years ago, alot of taichi practitioners and masters these days do not follow these principles.

Combining the principles into the taichi form requires alot of training and hard work, not many practitioners these days are willing to undertake this.

  • Have to agree, surprisingly lacking in basic taijiquan principles.

  • strange broadsword tho? (the actual sword itself)

the form was nice i liked it

can anyone tell me why the broadsword is so different from the normal one?

  • That style of broadsword was designed by the Yang clan and is known as the "Yang Style Sabre". Thinner blade sabres do exist, but you probably never seen one, because they rarely feature on TV/movies. The Japanese style blades were originally from China and similar blades were used up modern times. Some schools still use them and they are not new, but have been around for centuries.

  • is it related to the miao dao?

  • Sort of, but Miao Dao has a longer handle and for both hands. The Yang Sabre seems to be influenced by the Cave Sabre or Wo Dao that was popular during the Ming and Qing eras. This type of sabre has a narrow blade and held with one hand. Both Wo Dao and Japanese swords were developed from the Mao Dao.

  • Very nice

  • It is Yang Jun :)

  • A nice flowing form. If I'm not mistaken this is a demonstration by Yang Jun from the DVD made with Yang Zheng Duo.

  • Interesting to see Yang style with "Fali"...
