Just got mine yesterday and it rocks!.....I let it charge in full sunlight for around 9 hours (it will even charge as a cloud passes over). It's bright compared to other solar lights and those shake up lights. Let it run for about an hour and the solar battery is still as bright as the backup battery. Will be a useful item during a power outage along with my hand crank radio.
I have this light and like some others I have found that once the internal 800mAh NiMh 2.4V battery discharges the flashlight will not charge from the solar panels. I don't have any sun here in Seattle in December to test the charge, but I suspect the very small panel elements provide little or no meaningful charge. I was able to crack open the case and remove the solar panel to get access to the pair of AAA rechargeable batteries, and charge with external charger.
@kolekantner That's interesting. I have not yet experienced this issue. I did buy another 2-pak at Costco recently and noticed that they seem to be using a different set of L.E.D. bulbs. Perhaps there are some manufacturing inconsistencies.
@gasdorf Pretty well from my experience so far. This coming season will be the first FULL winter I'll be testing them (still on my original set). I may post an updatebased upon this experience, which should be about one year from the original review.
Myself and a friend both bought this light, and after about 10 months BOTH of our lights take about.. well MOST of the day to charge in direct bright sunlight. Only to provide less than 5 minutes of run time.
We both have to switch over to the battery powered backups, as the solar cells dont hold charge for crap any more. And this is with very litte use in that 10 month period as well.( taking the dog outside at night) Calling the company to try to get them both replaced.
Awesome vid! I was just going to send you a message the other day, asking when you planned on putting out a new vid! I'm glad you beat me to the punch.
$20 is an AWESOME pricetag, especially when you compare it to something like a Surefire. Good find ZT!
only canada would have illegal flashlights

is this this the best solar light you can get and is 9 lumens of light good
mrnoi5545 1 year ago
@mrnoi5545 It's the best VALUE I have found so far. 9 lumens is quite effective for most 'normal' flashlight needs. Mine are all still running 100%.

Nice review. ZSDWreviews has a lot of light reviews in the works, and I will personally be doing a review on the Streamlight TLR-2.

dustya1982 1 year ago
Amazon has them, as do most ACE Hardware stores. From time-to-time Costco had an amazing 2-pack for $20, but they may have stopped carrying them.
